Would Paizo ever do a Golarion-based graphic novel?

Tales

I don't know if this has been asked before - what is the possibility of a Golarion based series of graphic novels?

Possibly revolving around the Iconics or the Pathfinder Society?

We currently have no plans to do anything like that within the next couple of years, but if we were approached by the right partners, such a thing would not be out of the question.

Comics, be them 25 pages or trades are a risky business these days. I'm glad Paizo is staying away from it.

I'm not. I loved the old DC AD&D and Forgotten Realms comics

Novels are enough of an eye opener for me. I don't want or need comics to transplant the imagery in my head.

I can see the risk and that this path would entail...

On the other hand Paizo has a reputation for great art, and edgy plots and the combination of the two could be a winner.

I didn't mind the Drizzt and Old Republic graphic novels, Although I would possibly like something done by Steve Niles and Ben Templesmith, or call me a loony the 2000AD guys.

I think you can get the dark and grim with the touch of humour from those guys.

I would personally love to see some Pathfinder graphic novels, but it's like Vic says... comics are expensive enough (and outside our core business enough) that it'd be too risky for us to try without a comics-centered partner company that could shoulder a lot of the load.

The comic industry is a rough place these days, thanks largely to the 90's.

I would love to see something done in this setting with artists like Art Adams, Massamiliano Frezzato, Juan Gimenez, etc....

A comic series would be licensed out to an existing comics publisher. It's certainly not something Paizo should try to do in-house.

It's certainly something I'd like to see.

Even a webcomic would be nice. It's even something fans could do.

Exactly. Licenses are the way to go. So if anybody has friends at a respectable comics house, feel free to nudge them our direction.

(Same goes for Bioware, Bethesda, Guillermo Del Toro, Peter Jackson...)

I think IDW just got the D&D license, and is launching a series (or several series) of D&D comics in the near future. If they do well, it would prove that there's a market for gaming-based fantasy comics.

I've just started getting back into graphic novels after a long time away from it. I really like what Boom Studios have been doing with Warhammer.

The Warhammer stuff is pretty good, as is the Exalted comics and the WoW comics. I will never play WoW but I love the comics I have picked up.

Hm, Bioware + Pathfinder, that would be sooooo cool! Just imagine "Absalom Nights" PC game !!! ;)

Personally, I thought the 40K comics we better (though the Blood Bowl one was great), but that license simply died last summer (IIRC) with barely a peep. I have picked up all the trades of the WoW comics and have really liked them.

I think that the challenge with any comic is the continuity of artists and writers. For me, this can be a huge deal - a major issue I found with the Boom! stuff was that I really enjoyed the initial releases but found the art changes in later volumes not to my liking.

Regardless, would love to see Paizo be able to partner up and make a foray into this form of media. Would also love to see them some Pathfinder anime.
