Hi, everybody!
First of all, I've just bought and read the hardbound Pathfinder Corerulebook, and I think it's the best fantasy roleplaying around. Period. After saying that, some questions about the rules: I don't know if there's already a thread about this, but, do the Elves have the same chance, as per 3.5, of finding secret doors merely passing near to them? In the description of the elven races it doesn'n say anything about that, but in the rest of the book, some sentences implies that they have the same capability also in Pathfinder.
Furthermore, do the Elves need to sleep, or they meditate, as per 3.5?
Many thanks,
Valerio

As far as I can tell... Elves no longer have any special ability to reactively find secret doors. They do get a bonus on perception checks which allows them to find secret doors easier than most.
The core PFRPG actually does not mention anything about "sleeping" anywhere for any race. There was a bit of a back door built in for the Elves however in Golarion. I believe there was info on elven sleeping habits mentioned in Elves of Golarion

Yup, I believe the eating/breathing/sleeping thing is included instead in the bestiary.
*flips pages*
Yup. Page 308 in the bestiary under humanoid
*Humanoids breathe, eat, and sleep.
Fey do too :p
Elves of Golarion specifically says that Elves trance instead of sleeping, however. GM's call which you go by, I guess.

Elves of Golarion was also written and released under the 3.5 OGL, not Pathfinder.
Elves in the Pathfinder RPG do sleep, and those in Golarion do as well. Mostly because this way we don't have to stay on constant watch for any maps of elven buildings that put in bedrooms with beds...
And yeah; the secret door thing is now simply a bonus on Perception checks.

So, is this right? The elven rogue with the trapfinder talent gets no free checks to find secret doors, unless the secret door is/has a trap and he approaches within 10 feet?
That's pretty funny to me. :)

The whole *elves detect secret doors* thing never made much sense to me.
Don't they tend to be more naturalistic, more fey-based? Why do outdoorsy characters get automatic checks when looking at artificial constructions?
Also, I can't believe that outdoorsy isn't recognized as an improperly spelled word :p
