Charm Spells

Hi All,

I've been looking over the charm spells and I've noticed that due to the type changes in PF from 3.5, the charm person spell has been majorly buffed.

Charm Person: Charm 1 humanoid

Charm Monster: Charm 1 living creature regardless of type or size.

Humanoid covers a LOT of creatures in PF, as almost everything large and small is now a subtype of humanoid (Ogres, Giants, Goblins, etc). I'm fine with this, as the DC should still be relatively low being a level 1 spell and the spell only makes things friendly. However what's the restriction on Charm Person in terms if size? I haven't found this anywhere other then the mention in Charm Monster saying it works on all creatures of any size.

Cheers,
Ulf.

Incorrect. Giants are not Humanoids, they are Giants which are a separate type. There is nothing larger than Large, or smaller than Small which falls under the Humanoid subtype. And of course templates like Celestial, Fiendish, or Undead which change the basic type will render the subject immune to this spell.

Since the spell description says nothing about size, I'd say no restriction. If that bothers you, maybe put a limit of size large or less on it, but as written, you can charm it if it's humanoid and blows its save regardless if it's diminutive or colossal.

LazarX, in the Bestiary giants are now listed as humanoids with the (giant) subtype. Found that listing over on the PRD as well.

Yep. All the Person spells have a much wider use now.

Incorrect, in pathfinder giants are Humanoid (Giant) you're the one telling people incorrect things. The OP is correct. ninjaed by a minute, teach me to post from work.

You can check any Giant out of the PF Bestiary, they are all listed as "Humanoid (Giant)".
