Cleric Domains and multiclassing!

Rules Questions

Hello :)
I have a little question! I wonder how the cleric domain evolve with the multiclassing. When I read the core rulebook, I clearly see that we choose both domains at level 1, so how does it works? Each granted power does not specify that you must have cleric level only to get them. Does it means : once you've got the domain, you will be granted all the power granted by them even if you are Cleric 1 / warrior 10?
And almost the same question : does mystic theurge keep the domain spell?

I mean... for the sorcerer it's well explain that you must be sorcer lvl X to gain the bloodlines powers, but it seems less clear for cleric domain powers. (I'm not sure to be well understood since i'm not a natural english speaker sorry :p)

Thanks for answering!

From the book / SRD;

Quote:
Each domain grants a number of domain powers, dependent upon the level of the cleric, as well as a number of bonus spells. A cleric gains one domain spell slot for each level of cleric spell she can cast, from 1st on up.

So yeah, Cleric levels only to advance the Granted Powers, but other levels in PrCs that advance clerical spellcasting will advance your Domain spell options & slots.

It's mentioned elsewhere that within each class section when *level* is referred to, unless explicitly mentioned, it means your level in that particular class.

Ok thanks for answering :) I play a mystic theurge and I try to gain access to a little bit more power since I feel really weak in my group, I must confess!

Mystic Theurge is definitely an option that could benefit from either the Magical Knack Trait that gives +2 caster level (no higher than character level) or the feat that gives +4 caster level.

A variation on such a Trait that gives +2 to effective Cleric level for the purposes of a Domain Granted Power progression (or +4 to a single Domain), but limited to no higher than character level, could also be a work-around for this idea.

Your 3rd Cleric / 3rd Wizard could count as a 5th Cleric for both Domains (useful if you picked Domains that give a power at 4th level, like Animal) or as a 7th level Cleric for a single Domain (useful for Fire or Knowledge). And with an extra level of Cleric, you could then qualify for an 8th level Domain power, instead.

Alternately, a Feat could work similarly. I would allow a +4 to both Domains granted power progression (or even all three, for a Cloistered Cleric variant) at the cost of a feat, as progressing Domain powers isn't, IMO, out of balance with the similar use of a feat to progress all spellcasting for that class by +4 caster levels (as with the 3.X Practiced Spellcaster feat).

Mmm... I think that pazio's intent was to include something in each class to make it more tempting to go 20 in that class. For clerics, it is their domains.

With that being said, looking at the domains, most of the domain powers are based off of cleric levels for duration. So as long as said feat didn't also boost the clerics effective level for duration, I wouldn't see that being unbalanced.

But I would go with a +2 to two domains, or a +4 to one.

Not +4 to more than one.

And not +2 to more than two.

I think that's plenty of payoff myself, as well as that it helps keep leveling in cleric much more beneficial to the domains. Heck, you're already getting 2x the spells through the prestige class :P
