To fulfil this mission, you can either retrace your steps, one of you can climb up the canyon walls and help the others via a rope later, then you will have to go cross-country to the ambush site, or you can go on in the canyon, looking for the exit used by both the tengu and the humans to bring back artefacts home.

From what you can pierce, both you and Caydee estimate that the canyon is indeed going in the right direction.

As you progress into this canyon, now large enough for all of the group to walk side by side if you want, you come to a scene of mayhem. Here the hardly packed snow is pink with blood. Weapons, tents, packs litter the canyon and a large number of human bodies lie around, frozen in death. The Yeti blood tracks you've been following come from this place.
Behind this scene, you spot a dark entrance on the right wall of the canyon.

As you walk forward through the bodies, eight of the corpses lurch to their feet and extend their dead arms towards you.

These ceatures look like cold zombies, they are faster than normal zombies and are so frozen that slashing/piercing weapons will not harm them a lot.

Caydee stumbles backwards from the nearest zombie, drawing her sword. "IhatezombiesIhatezombiesIhatezombiesIhatezombies..." she chants under her breath, eyes wide with fear.

The situation is as follows: you are all grouped together, surrounded by 8 zombies. Thy are all within 30 feet and for the moment are not adjacent to one another.

For ease of play, you do not need to respect your initiative number as long as you are supposed to act before the ennemies. For instance, Vardara, KD and Fubar can act in whichever order they want, and after the zombies action, all of you will be able to act.

Fubar:
You are stil armed with your scythe but can drop it and draw your flail while moving.

KD:
taking you lamp and lighting it will require a full action and both hands. You will be able to throw it next round.

Lifting her earthbreaker in both hands, Vardara closes the distance with one of the zombie and strikes it.

The massive weapon crushes the skull of the creature which falls down, truly dead.


"Cover me," Caydee tells her comrades, proceeding to try and light her lamp to use it as a weapon.

Fubar, you've just used a move action to join Azh and Caydee. Do you want to use your standard action to strike the first one to reach you ? If so, please roll your attack.

The sudden movements of Vardara draw some of the monsters to her and three of them converge on her.
The other four target the remaining group, two on Fubar, one on Azh and one on Caydee.

Most of their claws miss the characters but both Vardara and Fubar cannot parry all the attacks directed towards them. One claw tears Vardara face, dealing 9 HP damage while another punches through a gap in Fubar's armor to deal 6 HP damage.

1 attack missing for Fubar, the it's the PC turn. You do not need to post in order, I will sort out everything.

Reeling back from the Zombie Blow, Vardara almost slips on the icy ground and using her heavy hammer to keep her footing, strikes at the zombies facing her, trying to use the weigth of the weapon to hit two of them with the same strike.

Attack with power attack and Cleave 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 16, damage 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (5, 1) + 6 = 12

1 - players. Grashnak/nightflier hasnt posted here since mid-october, though it appears he is active elsewhere. Tarkum has not posted since mid-october as well, and doesn't seem to be active. I am guessing they are both gone. Can someone volunteer for the recruitment drive to get 2 more players? I posted links on the last recruitment thread to this thread and to the original game starting thread - I'll try to find all of those. Basically trying to keep everyone even level-wise, so I guess start them at whatever xp we are at when Llae finishes her turn at the wheel. Speaking of which...

2 - DM. Llae's turn lasts til about friday. Llae, maybe work out where you want to pass the reins. I dno't think we want to drop new recruits directly into that chair, and of the 4 of us my turn was the longest ago, so it looks like I'm up again. Llae drop me a message on Obsidian Portal regarding switch over, and set me as DM there when the time comes.

Any other thoughts?


Seems we are lacking in group cohesion, I did note that a time ago I kept losing dots (and had to search for my threads). I would "assume" they would have found us by now.........

I suggest we do an OOC thread here on paizo for this type of thing and to help in recruitment........

Yes, good points. The difficult thing is to start with action/heavy RP whenever new people come in as you need to hook them up fast. I'll put up an OOC thead later.

On a different level, Fubar is still an action short. The previous attack was only his delayed attack. Then we need Caydee action before I wrap up the round.

You can either take a step back and use a thrown touch attack (improvised weapon, -4), or use a melee touch attack (again with -4). In both cases it will break and inflict 1d4 fire damage, plus 1 damage on all the squares around.


Caydee recoils from the zombies, throwing the lamp forcefully at them, with a little "sorry" for everyone nearby.

Vardara two blows connect and both zombie slump on the ground.

Unused to fighting these opponents, Fubar misguged the distance and both of his blow go wide.

Caydee lamp crashes on the zombie and the burning oil seem to melt one arm. However, it is not sufficient and the creature lurches forwards. Another zombie and Azh are touched by the projection and each take 1 Fire damage.


Mindlessly, the zombies continue their relentless attack.

Again, Vardara gets hit by the zombie and a long gashes open on her belly (8 HP), while Caydee lurching zombie finds an opening in the unarmed woman defense (9 HP).

Ahz smiles a strange way when the fire hits him, looking...almost peaceful.

Hold on Var!

Seeing Vardara gashed and looking fairly bloodied, Ahz will move to here and lose shield of faith to spontaneously cast cure light wounds. I will try to be on the opposite side from the zombie to avoid giving it a free swing at me, but I will cast whether I can achieve that or not.

cure light wounds: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10

Ahz again smiles as the Vardara seems to be losing less blood.

Watch out for the pointy end of them

Azh, I'm afraid your move will provoke an AoO from the zombie facing you.

As Azh rushes to support Vardara, the zombies suddenly extends his arm, trying to pierce his heart.

AoO 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12 damage 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7

The blow bounces harmlessly on the cleric armor

With the rush of healing energy, Vardara finds her second wind and her weapon strikes for the last zombie that she can reach.

Both Vardara and Fubar weapons find their targets and the zombies crack and fall down in pieces.

3 zombies standing, one facing Fubar, one facing Caydee and half burnt and the last one having just missed Azh. Caydee to go, then the remaining zombies


Caydee unsheathes her longsword and attacks the nearest zombie, her face a mask of disgust.

Caydee blow takes the zombie by surprise and connects with his chest. However, the blow just bounces on the frozen skin, barely nicking it.
The three remaining zombie once again slashes at their opponents. One attacking Caydee, one Fubar and the third one 1=Azh, 2=Fubar, 3=Caydee, 4=Vardara, 1d4 ⇒ 4

The resistance of the zombie to Caydee attack makes her loose her balance and the zombie strikes again for 8HP. Both others miss their targets

"Your existence is a disgrace to the world and your life has already ended. I'll just send you back."

Ahz springs over (again trying to stay on the far side from the zombie) and draws the forces of the universe to heal Caydee.

Ahz holds his holy symbol fondly and channels positive energy his two remaining times for today:

heal 1d6 to all: 1d6 ⇒ 1
second 1d6 to all: 1d6 ⇒ 6

I think that heals everyone except KD, and for her I will trade endure elements to spontaneously cast cure light wounds: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4

And I think that should exactly heal everyone.

After I finish my doctoring tasks, I'm going to use zero level spells light and detect magic and check the gear of the twice dead.

Also, I am going to attempt to get Karrg's attention and motion him to come to me. If that all works, when he gets to me I am going to cast comprehend languages to help the exchange, and try to talk to him some.

I am going to talk to him about the oath we have with his father, explain my understanding and check that he knows about it and how he understands it.

I am also going to explain to him my views on this combat jsut ended - that these were unnatural enemies who needed to be killed. And that their gear will help us continue to survive and make the world a better place.

And, I talk to him about such things as being as close as is comfortable for him to the camp, and about our upcoming language lessons. I am also going to work on learnign his language (for which I will put a point into linguistics when we level, assuming it is ok with the DM at the time).


Caydee retrieves her lamp and sees if it's still usable.
