Andreas approaches the mounted birdman cautiously. The paladin attempts to look nonthreatening, but his is unwilling to leave his glaive and leaves the weapon at rest on his shoulder.
Tengu have attacked the human settlement at the foot of the mountains. A building was set aflame, and people were killed. Items, relics recovered from the Frostlands, were stolen; we seek their return.
Diplomacy Skill Check
Base roll, add or subtract modifiers as necessary during interaction.
I, too, am finding it difficult to make the time to check in. After an impromptu trip out of state last weekend, I ended up getting drowned in preparation for the coming semester. I'm not going to have much time to contribute to a play by post over the next weeks, as I try to balance this semester's classes with a new work schedule. All while I try to make the time to move into the dorms, too.
Feel free to run Andreas as an NPC when I don't post. I'll try to check in as much as I can but, if you feel it would be too disruptive, I will bow out.

DM Post Ghost |

Sounds like everyone will be having troubles in posting over the coming days/weeks/etc. I think it will be fine to slow the game down and NPC various PCs for a time....
If we need to locate a new PC we can look to replace anyone who bows out
"Young tengu lacking in leadership went to retrieve artifacts from human thieves"
"My grandfather found the first artifact in the ice and from it a message setting the tengu on the path to finding other pieces in the ice. Even now a great beast from the ice is awakened and building this place."
"My grandfather worked on this vision to free the tengu, my father worked on this and I have spent my life to free the tengu from areas around the humans"

Andreas Vaughn |

The human who claimed the artifacts as his own stated they were found in the ice, not stolen. We have little reason to disbelieve his claims, but I will not deny the possibility that he had taken what rightfully belonged to your kind.
That said, tengu attacked and killed innocents uninvolved in the acquisition of the artifacts. Andreas has some difficulty uttering the word "innocent"; the Scions may not have been directly involved; but he still doesn't trust the organization. Of these facts there is no doubt, and it leads one to question the truth of your claims.
Andreas pauses before continuing, allowing time for the weight of his words to sink in. If the artifacts are truly yours, we shall not pursue them any further. But you must be able to demonstrate the truth of your story. I trust you can do so?

Andreas Vaughn |

It lies with you, not us, to prove the truth of you claims. If such proof is buried in the ice fields, show it to us. Provide us an escort. Consider it a sign of good faith.
If you will not, we insist that you return that which was taken. We will only leave you after we have the artifacts in hand, or you provide evidence they are rightfully yours.
Where did the serpent come from?

DM Post Ghost |

The tengu notices Caydee...
"The iron man was found by the tengu, till a group of humans came into the frostlands their purposes unknown, and drove the tengu away from the site. They worked to free the iron giant, but first they took the source from it."
"The tengu have one of the iron giants not like the man and we dragged it toward this place. Once the lost tengu returned with the source, the iron giant was resurrected and built this city for the tengu."
Then turns back to Andreas
"I can bring the giant out of the fortress and let you see that long have the tengu worked for this day, or return to our ancestral home and see for yourselves where the first iron giant sat."
The winged serpent uncoils intself behind the tengu. The tengu mounts the serpent and prepares to depart.
"Wait here. I will send the iron giant to the entry way of the fortress and you can decide to stay or to go."

Azhateran Slug |
I agree with KD.
Ahz wonders if possibly the elf isn't the better spokesperson, since the Tengu seems to favor her. Then again, she is cute...
{ooc}On that note, Fubar has gone 5 weeks as DM - Fubar do you have a good turnover point planned? And do we have a volunteer for next DM? If Gnosh is still dropping out, that leaves Caydee or Sioned. Also, I notice most people mentioning they will be slowing down for various reasons - that's fine, we've handled the game and combats amazingly fast for PbP gaming, slowing down is ok. I found a guy on ENWorld who games and lives near me, may get him to join my tabletop group as well, but thinking about inviting him for the vacant spot, again if Gnosh still needs to go. Will ask him.

DM Post Ghost |

A few minutes pass after the winged serpent and the tengu fly for the icy fortress and disappear behind a distant peak. A large metal giant rolling on several long tubes, almost like a rock being quarried and moved by placing logs in front of it comes into view.
The metal giant has two arms and several potrusions along its back...
A flash of red comes from the protrusion on the right side just beside the head, the red hits the water in the distance causing some of the water to steam.
I can not believe it has been that long, I am glad we got to level and will turn things over to anyone else.....
Also Fubar will vote for the course of action that assists in the transition......
Several options at this point
For the party
1. return to investigate the tengu claims
2. assault the fortress
3. return to obtain reinforcements then #2
4. wait and capture a tengu when it leaves the fortress
5. sneak into the fortress and locate said guilty tengus
6. anything else that comes to mind..........
I can also send layout of the fortress to whoever needs it along with the idea concerning the ancient artifacts and the value of the pieces.

DM Post Ghost |

I think we did really get through some combats and travels quickly! I think slower might be better......
As DM I tried to balance moving forward with PC participation assuming in decision instances that if three players made a choice that was the direction it went.
Likely I will let Gnosh hang around for a bit, maybe staying to watch the tengu as the group returns (or vice versa).....Leaving the door open for Gnosh to return if desired
Also I can continue a little further as someone decides who wants the reigns....

Andreas Vaughn |

Andreas nods. Lets stay put until the speaker, or another, returns. We can ask again for a guide. I certainly don't want to be wandering across the ice without one this time of year. Or any time of the year, for that matter; the cold is rather harsh for one used to a warmer climate.

DM Post Ghost |

The machine quickly returns to the caverns within the icy fortress.
Soon a lone tengu walks along the way pulling a cart behind him. he goes slowly frequently checking the cargo....
Soon enough he arrives at the crank toward the fortress and cranks the bridge and the party to his side.
"I am called Siemu, I have brought this cart of potions and oils such that as an offering of good faith and a favor to ask of you."
"Each of you may select a potion or oil from this cart or tell me what you need and I will locate it here.....In exchange you promise not to tell others where the tengu are or to return here without cause."

Caydee nods subtly to the rest of the group, indicating that she thinks they should comply.

Azhateran Slug |
Siemu, we appreciate your offers of good faith. I believe, however, that accepting a gift and retiring from this place before we conclude our investigations into the matter would be akin to taking a bribe to forget a murder. Unfortunately, though we have seen the metal man, we still need to investigate the origins to ascertain truth and ownership, and we still need to discuss the issue of slaying of innocents by Tengu.
At the moment, we were told that the truth can be found where the metal man was found - and so we would request a tengu guide to take us to that place. As you seem personable enough and do not seem to mind dealing with us, perhaps you could serve in this capacity?
I am up for any of the options, though I tend to frown on kidnapping unless I think it servers a much higher purpose and/or is of someone I believe deserving of such an act.

DM Post Ghost |

The tengu considers you....
"The offer was carefully made, not to forget or ignore murder or any other such things, but to not return without proof of a wrong, as I said before without cause."
"As it is now few tengu have gotten any rest we just barely made the trek across the frozen wastes to get here, most have suffered the journay, the labor of carrying our things and the cold that came."
"Here at long last we have found a place of peace and rest away from the humans..."
"Some considered killing you as you spent the night outside but Ezonner would not allow it, as it is not his nature, he rightly holds the count of our peoples deaths 108 tengu have died at human hands in the history of our people, what is your claim of the opposite."
"Is there a potion or oil I can interest you in..."
cure light wounds
endure elements
magic weapon
pass without trace
bless weapon

Azhateran Slug |
In that case, I will accept your gift of good will, in case it may come in handy in my capacity as a healer of others. I understand your desire to have a home, and to be away from...those that may harm you, be they human or otherwise. I have no issue with these feelings or statements. As far as the number of humans killed by Tengu, I do not know an exact number - but I do know the number is more than zero, and wish to deal with those responsible for deciding theirs is the role of executioner. We also seek the truth of these objects - but that is of lesser concern to me personally. It was mentioned that we may seek the truth at the location the metal man was found. I acceot this invitation, and still request a guide, or at the very least a fairly accurate written or verbal map to the location.
Ahz steps over and selects a potion of endure elements, nodding curtly to Siemu.
Also, pass my regards along to Ezonner for being less barbaric and brutal than some.

Andreas Vaughn |

Andreas accepts a vial, nodding his thanks as he does so. My friend speaks true; you say your kind found the trek here to be difficult. It would only be more so for, should we set out to search for the site of the giant's discovery without guidance.
I'll take a potion of cure light wounds; never know when one will come in useful.
As an aside, were are we? You didn't mention that we left Camlin's Gorge, via the direct route through Icewatch or a side valley, but this conversation sounds as if we're already on the ice.

DM Post Ghost |

Siemu consider for a moment your need for a guide....
"I have something that will help you in locating the area."
He leaves quickly and returns with a small wooden chest.
"I hope that one day you can return this to me or at least get another one. Let me show you how it operates...."
Astrolabe
Source Adventurer's Armory 5
This device consists of a flat disc upon which two other discs are mounted. The mounted discs can rotate on a central axis, allowing them to spin and move as days pass. The bottom disc represents the latitude of the user; an astrolabe is useless if the user is outside the preset latitude. The upper disc represents the sky, and is filled with astronomical features. Anyone can be shown how to use an astrolabe at night to determine the date and time (which takes 1 minute). When using an astrolabe, you can make a Survival check using your Intelligence modifier instead of your Wisdom modifier to avoid becoming lost.
"I tell you this as well as far as we are out right now, this place is shifting beneath our feet moving further from Camlin's gorge and deeper into the ocean of ice."
"The journey of the Tengu from the world of men has actually just begun as even now we move further into this ocean of ice."
"Ezonner believes that one day in the middle of the floe we shall be and stay, very far away from this place even."

Sioned |

I'm sorry guys, it was a lot of fun but since my work has blocked access to Paizo and pretty much everything else, I am only able to post from my friend's house. I hate to do it, but I need to bow out of the game. If finances every allow for me to hook up home internet, I'll be back in a flash. Until then, I hope the game continues to be as strong for the rest of you. Take care.

Goodbye, and good luck with work and stuff.

Andreas Vaughn |

I'm afraid I'm going to have to retire from this campaign as well; I'll be starting work in two weeks, and with classes beginning once more I need to cut my PbP games.
I'll need to pass GM privileges on Obsidian Portal to someone else. Any takers?

Hellefire |
{ooc}So, yeah pass gm privileges to fubar, and fubar help Caydee transfer over as the next DM?
Half the party deciding to go another way (back South, to investigate something, disappearing in a blizzard, etc) is a great hook for switching DMs :).
Also, we'll need to start another recruiting thread it looks like. Is anybody up for that? I could figure it out, but haven't done anything on these forums except this game.

Personally, I'll have enough to do managing a campaign that's not add-libbed.

Vardara |

Hi everyone, here is Vardara, my new character for the campaign. I've made her a paladin 1 Boreal sorcerer 1. Please, go through her back story in the profile to tell me if the background looks fine to you.
i've accepted the invitation on the Obsidian Portal and will transfer the character there as soon as possible.

Story looks great Llae!
Fubar, I'm not exactly sure of the rules, but I think whoever makes the campaign has to have a paid account on Obsidian Portal in order to make more than 1 person GM. And I will always assume pretty much all gamers are starving students, even decades after college :). So, yeah, I think we can have just 1 designated GM there at a time.

Either a starving college student or a decently fed middle school student with a small allowance.
