Liberty's Edge

I am really digging some of the recent materials out there about ancient Greece. I for example love the fluff for Mazes & Minotaurs.

My players want to travel to travel to my campaign setting's part of the world that is based on mythological, ancient generic Mediterranean in the same vein that Legend of 5 Rings or Oriental Adventures is generic fantasy Asia.

What materials can any of you suggest for this? Also what races would you all say would be appropriate? Would any of the PFRPG races be appropriate for such a setting? Would any of the player races in the Bestiary be useable?

The Exchange

Scroll down to "The New Argonauts" section. Sean K. Reynolds wrote a really nice piece here. Click on the "21 page Preview" link to get an idea on what the whole thing is like....it's perfect for what you are looking for.
Drivethru RPG has the whole thing free to download HERE.
Hope it helps....

EDIT- Oppsy, forgot that Paizo also carries it for free HERE along with Swords to Plowshares which is another excellent product.

The New Argonauts is basically a d20 mini-campaign book based on ancient/mythic greek lore. I believe it weighs in at around 65-ish pages and talks about what races, classes, items and stuff is appropriate in that type of game. Also has some variant rules for damage and healing IIRC. I printed it out and am saving it for use in a future campaign.

New Argonauts is a good one, and I am partial to the Trojan War d20 that is found in the Paizo store. Check here. It's not as inexpensive, but is full of all kinds of good ideas! (Though it is geared toward a War campaign, there are many good ideas that don't need to be mass combat.

Liberty's Edge

I actually have both. VERY good books. I am am however looking for more material. Something more fantasy then mythology I guess. Is there other supplements?

There is an awesome book here in Brasil that some of my friends released a while ago... too bad it's not in english and it's not for sale anymore. The name is Neokosmos and it's incredibly good. I'm gonna talk to some of them and try to reactivate the project, who knows.

2 people marked this as a favorite.

You have a handsome avatar Xum :-)

I was working on a homebrew (Unfortunatley I cant find the word file).

The premise was:

The On the eve of the Peloponnesian War somebody opened Pandora's Box returning the gods, monsters and magic to the world. Everything falls into chaos and the game picks up 10 years later in Athens just as people are finally sorting things out.

Some of the books I was gathering ideas out of:

Dragon Lance - Taladas - The Minotaurs
Mystara - Hollow World - The Milenian Empire
MGP - The Slayers Guide To Centaurs
MGP - The Slayer's Guide To Minotaurs
MGP - The Slayer's Guide To Medusas
MGP - OGL Ancients
Bastion Press D20 - The Greek Gods
Green Ronin Mythic Vistas - Trojan War
Relics & Rituals - Olympus
AD&D - Age Of Heroes Campaign Sourcebook
Concord - Ancient Armies-History-Book
Osprey - Greece And Rome At War
Osprey - Greek & Roman Siege Machinery
Osprey - Greek Hoplite 480-323 BC

PERFECT! This is what I was looking for! I am thumbing through it and on chapter 1...races. It gives a reinterpretation of traditional D&D races in a "Fantasy Hellenic" setting. "Fantasy Hellenic" from what I am reading in this book is more what I am looking for. Greek based but not necessarily 100% accurate and all. More like a D&D game "flavored" with ancient Greece. In my world, in the "hellenic" region humans vastly outnumber non-humans similar to how it is in L5R or OA. Non-humans are still there but very much not common. If anyone has done something like this I'd like to hear more.

Sounds like your campaign is something similar to what I wanted to run a while back! (Though I would actually rather play!) I'll have to check out that Relics & Rituals - Olympus!

Well the campaign is not all that. It is just an area that is that way. That area...was were humanity started. It branched out to other places and changed. The actual campaign area is much more like the time of Charlemange but the people of that land their ancestors over 1000 years ago came from the "hellenic area".
