Hi all, as I explained in one of the threads, I thought it best to keep the game on here for now, rather than grapple with Savage Worlds and Google Wave.

So far, we have:

Rev Rosey (Explorer's Edition)
JZ (Explorer's Edition)
Davi (Test-Drive)
Amelia (Test-Drive)

It would be good to get 2 or 3 more, but 4 is a good number.

The Test-Drive rules will be fine to use. Those of you with access to Explorer's Edition will have more comprehensive rules for spellcasting.

So, a run-down of available races:

Human
Elf
Half-elf
Dwarf
Half-folk
Half-orc

These are available for free in the Wizards and Warriors pdf, which also includes some fantasy careers. If you have a concept you want to try but are unsure how to implement it, we can discuss it here.

-In terms of equipment, I am tempted to use the prices from Pathfinder/3.5.

-I still have yet to decide what the fairest way to assign XP is, so I may just decide on appropriate points at which you level up.

-Similarly with bennies, I may have to house-rule their use. Will think some more.

-As playing cards are used to determine initiative, I'll need to probably use a real deck at home and draw for all of you, or use some piece of software.

Please also download (again, free) the Kingmaker Player Guide, as it will help in creating background for the game.

I won't be setting it in Golarion, more my usual mish-mash of various sources. The gods will either be Finnish or Slavic.

Human

Dotting up.

In terms of Magic, the following are allowed:

Arcane
Miracles
Psionic
Sorcery

Hi folks

I answered Fabes on the Connection forum and then realised there was a proper discussion thread...

I've got Explorer's edition and the Fantasy Companion, but never played the system before so I'm completely open to character options if anyone has any burning desires to play something specific? Will have a read of the rules later and jot down some ideas.

m human 1

Dot dot !

Since I just have the test drive, I'll play some warrior or rogue type, likely the latter. Keep it simple for me while I learn the system.

Rosey (EE)
grufflehead (EE +FC)
JZ (EE)
Davi (TD)
Amelia (TD) - non-spellcaster

Looking good, folks.

If you have a read of the Player's Guide, you'll get a good feeling for the setting. It's quite 'gritty' and low-fantasy compared to many adventures.

It'll be a bit of a different thought process for me for chargen as it's been a while since I played a system with no classes. Looking forward to putting something together that's maybe a bit more varied than one of the stock D20 archetypes.

I'd like to try out someone with Arcane Background. If you aren't familiar with the system please don't worry that the 'wizard' niche is taken - there are various flavours of spellcaster, and it doesn't need to be the complete focus of the character as much as in D20.

Human

Maybe psionic for me. I've a soft spot for psions. It's very freeing in a way not being nailed to a class.

The family are all big, butch thumpy types - maybe one of them is in one of the other adventuring groups. He/she is extremely sneery about using weapons and there's a lot of rivalry in the background.

Male Humanoid Lurker 1/ Nerd 1

Eastern Standard Time for me.

Anyway, I'll also stick with a non-spellcaster. Probably a bit more martially-focused than Amelia's.

Post monster ate my last post. Please give yourselves 5 xp as well to start off with. This gives you an Advance.

After reading the players guide, I'm thinking a homesteader type from the Greenbelt. That would give me a connection to the bandits and the region from the get go, as well as good motivation to get rid of them :)

Sounds good. The bandits are not nice at all.

The setting is kind of like a weird mash-up of Eastern Europe in the Middle Ages meets the Wild West meets Tolkien. I love it!

m human 1

I'm reading the guide right now. Liking what I see.

Male Humanoid Lurker 1/ Nerd 1

Right now I'm thinking about a former brigand. Joined a band of brigands to get some food/money to help his brother and his family survive, left the band violently after he realized they were raiding his brother's homestead. Probably going to buy a friend from the band as some variety of Enemy. Mainly on this expedition to both not get his throat slit by said old friend and not take a short walk off a long drop.

I've always wanted to play a proper horseman type, but most games are too dungeon-centric for it to work. I noticed in the guide that it said mounted combat was a valid choice for Paladins as there was lots of outdoor stuff, so I'm going thinking about playing something like a horse courier/messenger rather than a mounted knight.

Haven't decided what to do about spellcasting yet. Without having played the game, any ideas whether having magical healing is essential? If yes, then I might go for a divine caster so at least someone can do it.

Human

Don't fret unduly Grufflehead. I have a feeling my bod will be taking up the bandaid role.

Magical healing isn't essential. The game simulates a variety of genres, so it doesn't mandate having a 'healer'.

Any thoughts on races? The setting is quite humanocentric, but that doesn't mean one or two of you can't be non-humans.

So we have, tentatively:

grufflehead - horseman
Rosey - psionic person
Amelia - homesteader who's mad as hell and won't take it anymore!
Davi - former brigand
JZ - unknown

m human 1

We might need a cleric, perhaps of Iomedae because that god is all about victory and such. He's an obnoxious young misfit, which is why his order pushed him all the way out to River Kingdoms. But he wants nothing more than to prove himself and feel appreciated by others. He's also a half-elf, but wears his hair long to try to pass as human. Out in the wilds he might get in tough with his touchy-feely fey-side. Or not.

I was going to ditch the Golarion gods, and use the Finnish pantheon. It might be easier to just keep the Golarion ones, much as I like using real-world mythoi.

I'll most assuredly be human, though I don't know if your little addition is accurate :) I should get around to playing around with character generation today - dreading do it by hand again, gotten sooo used to CB :)

I couldn't resist. :D

I know you feel about the PC generation - but the system is much quicker than 4E, if that's any help. That's why I like it, for one.

Human

Human. Not too happy with family for some reason yet to be determined. The magic is just - stuff. More efficient and cleaner than your average axe.

Will also be looking at character creation later once I've finished bossing a cast around.

If you still have room i would love to get in on this. So far i haven't played anything than d20 but I just bought myself the Savage Worlds core rules and Deadlands:reloaded and i find the system really intriguing and would like to try it out.

The only down side about it is without classes you acutually have to think and not just pick one :D i don't know what i would be playing yet.

Cool, yep, defintely room for more. Welcome aboard!

Male Humanoid Lurker 1/ Nerd 1

Say, how extreme is having Wanted(Major), as compared to Wanted(Minor)?

Great. I (ravn) have decided on a swashbuckling type with some rogue skills.
He is the bastard son of one of the nobel families in Brevoy, and he now seeks to prove himself and get revenge on his father who let him and his mother live a poor life.
I know i have taken one more hindrance than required but i actually like him with the four hindrances.

Hey Fabes!
I see you've started your Savage Worlds thread!
Let me know how it goes! If You still need another, (And I survive the next 2 weeks of work!) I'd be happy to try it out! ;P

I've only downloaded the quick start rules, and only glanced at those, but it seems simple enough.
(Sort of reminds me of the old/original D6 Star Wars game, although that actually had classes,...) ;)

I'll be lurking, if you don't mind! ;) Have fun!

Davi - I think I would have to disallow Wanted as a Hindrance as you are all representatives of the Brevoy government, and there is no organised law enforcement to speak of.

Ravn - Ardell looks good. Don't do yourself out of any Edges though, Savage Worlds PCs need all the help they can get to begin with!

Rags - you're welcome to join

Fabes - thoughts on Connections edge? I won't take it at this point, but just playing around with a few ideas here.

Rough cast Pavla. Not sure I've got all the figures right for skills, but will take another look later today. Basically, she burns your brain and doesn't like her family much.

grufflehead - horseman
Rosey - Pavla Rez (psionic with family issues)
Amelia - homesteader
Davi - former brigand
JZ - priest of Iomedae (or equivalent)
ravn - Ardell Quentin (swashbuckler - scared of birds)
Rags - unknown

One thing to make you aware of is that combat in SW is quite different to Pathfinder/3.5. It's not a battle of attrition of hitpoints; even a mook with a club stands a chance of taking you out. Called shots, tricks and tactics are what will win the day.

Connections - what sort of connections were you thinking of?

You all full up? I just found this thread, I'm an old Deadlands gamer, and I have Savage Worlds, but haven't had a chance to play yet.

Sure thing! Realistically, some people will drop out as we go, so 8 or 9 players is fine.

-If anyone is using the Wizards and Warriors pdf, please ignore the section about replacing Guts. We will be using Guts as normal.

-All characters can speak, read and write a number of languages equal to their Smarts divided by 2. One of these must be your native language.

How are people's characters coming along?

Also:

-at least one of you will need the Survival skill in order to explore hexes as you survey the Stolen Land.

-how do you want to work cartography? Either one of you can use the blank hex sheet in the Player's Guide and either draw by hand and scan, or use an art package OR I can reveal the map as we go. I thought it would be fun for one of you to do the mapping, but let me know.

Human

Connections - family mainly, but also whoever and whatever she learned her stuff from.

Languages - what's available? Pavla can speak six of them.

Added in Guts as hadn't used all my skill points yet (and I think I have another 2 to play with as well, but will have to check.

EDIT: Already have Survival and may up it a bit. Can map if you like (but will happily stand aside for someone else to do that. Fractal Mapper (what I has on my pc) does hexes.

I'll play a ranger/woodsman type, will take a couple days to get him stated up. I have work and tonight is shopping night. So that should cover the survival skill. I'll play a bastard of the throne as well, per the Kingmaker Player's guide. So I'll be HOO MAN!!

What sources can I use? I've bought several PDFs...but I don't have W&W yet. I do have the Fantasy Companion.

Equipment:

Each of you starts with 175gp

Please use the d20 prices HERE, but the Savage World stats (obviously!)

Now, I was thinking about armor in SW, it's kinda all or nothing, a Chainshirt would actually be what? 2 to chest only? Wouldn't you want a Chain Shirt over say Leather? so 2 Chest, 1 arms/legs?

BP over leather or chain 3 chest 1 or 2 for legs/arms?

justone of those conversions I had been thinking about previously.

Hallit - Human (River Kingdoms) Native Language
Skald - also spoken in Brevoy
Taldane - lingua franca
Elven
Dwarven
Sylvan
Giant
Halfling
Orc
Draconic

What I'll do is draw up prices for the armour types that are in SW and FC for you. Should have thought about armour...

Here you go!

Leather 10gp
Chain Hauberk 150gp
Plate corselet 200gp
Plate arms 100gp
Plate leggings 150gp
Pot Helm 25gp
Steel Helmet 75gp

Buckler 10gp
Medium Shield 20gp
Tower Shield 80gp

These are both converted, freely adapted and made up out of my head. And yes, they are mostly out of your price range to begin with.

right, leather and medium shield it is...hah!

Here's what I got so far, although I might change the exact hindrances I took. (Total would still be the same) Anyway, two questions:

1. Is there an axe that's 1d8(in other words, equivalent to the longsword)?
2. The default 1d6 axe wouldn't happen to be a throwing axe, would it?

Yep, there's a battleaxe (10gp) for Str+1d8 (weight 10) or a great axe (20gp) Str+1d10 (AP1, Parry -1, 2 hands) (weight 15)

For our purposes, let's say the hand and throwing axe are the same (historically dodgy!) , so 8gp will buy you one hand/throwing axe (using the higher of the two d20 prices).

As you have the FC, you don't need W&W. The former subsumes the latter.

I should have a character done tonight.

grufflehead - horseman
Amelia - homesteader
JZ - priest of Iomedae (or equivalent)
Rags - unknown
Xaaon - unknown

ravn - Ardell Quentin (swashbuckler - scared of birds)#
Davi - Korren Duras (former brigand with a dangerous enemy)
Rosey - Pavla Rez (psionic with family issues)

As I said a human ranger/woodsman type.

Probably with Heroic/Loyal/Quirk (Will only eat meat once per week) Hindrances

Hey Xaaon - look forward to being on the same side of the screen (so to speak). Your woodsman type; thinking about being a missile user? One option I am considering is a horse archer, which doesn't preclude us both being bow users but if that was going to be part of your schtick then I'm happy to go down a different route and leave you to be Robin Hood ;)

Edit: I see you have 'fighting' and 'throwing' so I'll stat up some 'shooting' ;)
