DM = Dungeon Master

GM = Game Master

PM = Pathfinder Master????

DM for all.

Sadly, DM is a proprietary term owned by Wizards of the Coast, as it is an abbreviation of Dungeon Master. GM works just fine.

Actually "DM" is owned by no one. "Dungeon Master" is owned by WotC. We choose to use GM and Game Master because not being able to expand "DM" at any time whatsoever to explain what it means to new players is limiting. :-)

And inventing a new word for the system, from our perspective and only as we see our system, is silly. I'm not saying the OP is silly, just that we thought creating a new term would be silly. :-)

And for that you will be severely punished.

Just as well, I like GM better. I mean, I've yet to run a dungeon crawl in any RPG game I've run, and even if I did there's more to the game than dungeons.

I like to consider myself the Gaming Operations Director. :)

2'x4' or 1'x8'?

I like GM, or "Sir", or "Great and Merciful Master of All That Is".

My players can use any one of these.

May I steal your above reference? I like the sound of it.

We sometimes use this in our group as well. :)

It's not copyrighted, I heard it from another player myself. :)

"CM".

Chronicle Master.

I'm partial to the 1" x 6" x 8'.

DM out of habit.

GM otherwise, especially for settings that generally don't have dungeons (non-fantasy), again out of habit.

Well, he's got to do something when he's not crushing civil liberties and watching the economy implode on the new HDTV he bought with public funds, shutting down military hospitals, cutting veterans benefits, and getting SAS teams killed in poorly conceived operations.

Sarandosil, I conceed the whole, "GM" argument, agree wholeheartedly -- but I guess since I played as "DM" for so many years before ever hearing the term "GM" in the mid 90's, "GM" just sounds wrong. I can't do it. I'm a DM, not a GM, even though dungeon crawls are rare and never the focus of an adventure or a campaign even though they do pop up in adventures and campaigns.

Hey, you got politics in my light-hearted banter.

And not just any politics: rabid, foaming at the mouth politics.

In fact, 'veterans'? 'VETERANS'? What are you, an American?

I agree, I'm a DM. GM just doesn't enter into my vocabulary. Besides everytime I hear GM I think General Motors :P

Honestly, I don't care for any title. I'm gaming with my friends, there is no need to give me another name while we're playing.

Generally my players fluctuate between calling me ***hole and Bastardo.

"Mercy!"

My friends call me the Poodle Master.
