Hero Lab - New Math for Monks

Rules Questions

So I'm drawing up a Monk and doing the calculation for CMD. I'm using Hero Lab for most of the raw number crunching... but their numbers aren't jiving with mine so I'd like some second opinions to make sure which one of us is in error. The relevent stats:

Human Monk 1st Level
STR: 20
WIS: 18
DEX: 16

Feats - Defense Combat Training, Dodge

CMD = 10 + BAB + STR + DEX + Size + 'Specials'

By my calculation that means 10 + 1 (BAB from DCT) + 5 (STR) + 3 (DEX) + 0 Size + 4 (WIS as Monk) + 1 (Dodge circumstantial Bonus) = ... carry the 2... CMD 24 / 20 Flat-footed.

Is my math correct? Am I missing something?

According to Hero Lab the numbers are 28/24 Flatfooted... I just don't see where I'm missing 4 points.

Any help would be appreciated.

24/20 looks right to me. At a guess, I'd say they are adding the wisdom bonus twice. I'd drop each stat by 2 one at a time and see if any of them cause the CMD to drop by 2 instead of 1.

Thanks! I'll give that a try and see what happens. Looks like Hero Lab can expect to get a bug report from me.

where did your +1 circumstantial dodge bonus come from?

unless i missed something dodge (the feat) doesn't add to CMD, is it a Monk thing?

Edit: Just looked at the Monk and they do get a bonus to AC and CMD but that's not until 4th level.

Dodge most certainly effects your CMD.

The special size modifier for a creature's Combat Maneuver Defense is as follows: Fine –8, Diminutive –4, Tiny –2, Small –1, Medium +0, Large +1, Huge +2, Gargantuan +4, Colossal +8. Some feats and abilities grant a bonus to your CMD when resisting specific maneuvers. A creature can also add any circumstance, deflection, dodge, insight, morale, profane, and sacred bonuses to AC to its CMD. Any penalties to a creature's AC also apply to its CMD. A flat-footed creature does not add its Dexterity bonus to its CMD.

Well I'll be damned, you learn something new everyday. My characters CMD should be 1 point higher.

Edit: I wonder why they don't offer a section on the character sheet for other modifiers to your CMD.

I dont care for the stock Pathfinder sheet, it leaves alot of calculations spots out, such as a spot for dodge bonus in AC calculation. I usualy use Neceros fantastic pathfinder sheet, or the Advanced Character Portfolio as my sheets. Necros is free, the ACP is 5 bucks but has TONS of sheets for customization, 80+ sheets worth all said, well laid out and nicely put together, IMHO.

Sorry for the thread jack, to actually contribute something to this discussion at hand, looking over you math, stormraven, it appears yours is correct, not sure where the extra 4 would be coming from.

No worries on the threadjack. In answer to your question, after doing some testing with HL - when you have a Monk AND you take DCT, instead of giving you the DCT's BAB = HD bonus, the system ends up doubling your WIS bonus. Without DCT, the WIS bonus to CMD is normal. I reported the bug to the HL folks (apparently I wasn't the first) and it is scheduled to be fixed. Kind of a shame that insane CMD bonus was NICE.

Id say a 24 CMD at level 1 is still pretty damn good :)

No doubt! But 24 FLATFOOTED was just too cool for school. :)
