It is a common misconception that they are dogs but in reality, they are truly a unique species completely separate from dogs. However, I guess it is possible that some of the smaller "yip yip" dogs like chihuahuas (alternatively referred to as "ankle biters" and "kickin' dogs") may possibly be a missing link between the two species. ;)
