Not even FLMA. One of the last bastions of a good benefit plan. Time off WITH FULL PAY. But FLMA does keep my job secure. ;)
4.5 hours for me from Motown.
When I was off for 17 non-consecutive weeks between April 08 - Mar 09, I did have time off with full pay, so it was good at the time. But yes, FMLA does keep the job secure ... or should I say ... did. :)
You live right outside of Detroit? I heard that the new mayor is talking about a huge reurbanization project by tearing down a lot of condemned blighted buildings and rebuilding infrastructures. If any metropolitan area needs a severe facelift to rebuild the region, it is Detroit.

Meh. The last 2 mayors said the same thing. But yes, it does need it badly. Breaks my heart to remember how it used to be, then see it now.

I'll refrain from the Kwame bashing. :P My dad's family is originally from the metro area, so I try to keep a little bit of familiarity about it. Haven't been up there since July 2005 when my grandfather died, though. Someday, I should go back up there and visit relatives when money permits. And I still need to check out Frankenmuth someday for its chicken.
And my favorite place to go? Getting ice cream in Hell. =)

I went last yr. My buds were so ticked after a couple of lame games that they bailed on the game run by Matt Morris. And since they were my ride...
I'm still ticked at them about that. Suckee Hero systems gimps. I sat thru 3 of their suckee sessions. 1 was decent, but very light.

Speaking of Matt ... once things settle down, I hope to participate in one of his PF campaigns here.

Even Archer made a bunch of promises. Then he saw the mess that the rest of the govt was (complements of Coleman Young) and got the heck out. The Tri-County area has been burnt by Detroit corruption/incompetence for so long that they stay far away as they can. Sadly, there will be no Detroit Renaissance without them.
What side of town was your family on? I'm an old East sider.

I met him and he seemed to be a cool guy. For GenCon, I may chart my own sessions instead of following the crowd.

Grandmother (in her '90s) lives off of Old Goddard in Lincoln Park. I have an uncle in Dearborn. Another uncle a little further west in Ypsilanti. Just to name a few at the top of my head.
I'm picky about where I stay when I go up and visit. It's usually somewhere above Eight Mile. :P

Do you usually get pregens or do you make up PCs on the spot? I am VERY slow when it comes to generating characters, which is part of the reason why I haven't fully committed to pbp's on here as I first intended to. The other reason that deters me is noise levels. If voices carry from too much ppl in the room, I would be totally lost.

Pontiac ... Flint ... Warren ... ugh. If I remember, I stayed in Rochester Hills.

Pregens, though promised, tend to be slow in coming for the PF and 3.5 games. I hate wasting Con time generating them. Books are scarce, etc. Pregens make it easy to try a new system, so I don't know what the hangup is. Pregens were availaable for the Hero games, but the scenarios turned out to be very scripted. Noise was more bearable than I thought. Hopefully my new condition will be gone by then.
If you want to try the PF Society, you should really invest the time in a character ahead of time. The guide sets it all out for you.

Here's a little song I wrote, you might want to memorize it note for note....

My ex-wife had a play in that. If I had my way, I would have crashed at my uncles either in Dearborn or Ypsilanti.
She was so spoiled by her parents that her birthday fell on 6-24. When 12-24 arrived, it was dubbed 'Halfway to Princess Day' instead of Xmas Eve. Kid you not.

Heh. I'm not w/o my faults, either. There was a bit of a difference in the age and maturity level and her mother was an extreme meddler. My main fault is I tend to be a bit cool and aloof even though I mean well. She also had a bit of a temper while I'm more of a rationalist. But nothing juicy to really talk about as it all really boiled down to irreconcilable differences.
But as for the ex-stripper I used to date BEFORE I met my ex-wife ... now her, I HAD TO GET RID OF. Oi vey!

She was part of the reason why I had to sit in the parish pokey for a couple of days during Mardi Gras. Was trying to get her drunk ass back to the hotel as she was making a spectacle of herself and kept resisting. She's a mean drunk. Attracted the attention of the cops and they ended up macing me. Took me back to the hotel so I could get my contacts out. They pinched my license, helped themselves to our beads in the room, and one even urinated right behind me as I was trying to clean out my eyes. Had to get glasses because the contacts were no longer good.
Ironically, she ended up in jail later for trespassing. I happened to have BOTH key cards and when I booked the room, I never put her on the guest list. Heh. We eventually got out after paying fines and got the hell out of dodge. Had to get home at a certain time because the rental car was due. Got pulled over in Bullet Co, KY for doing an 86 in a 65. Didn't get the car back until next morning and paid the late fine, which was about as much as it was for me renting the car for that whole week. That was back in 2002.
EDIT: Best part was that I couldn't even produce my license to identify myself ... because the N'awlins cops kept my ID.
It wasn't until later when I discovered that she was cheating on me and also had several warrants out for her arrest. She got drunk again and eventually was picked up by the cops. Was in the county jail for several weeks and was let out Xmas eve.
Oh, the stories I could tell...

But the ER physicians rather emphatically urged me to call a cardiologist as soon as their office opens on Monday. Hmmmm.

Worried about some heart problems. She was short of breath and had some pretty bad swelling and dizziness. The x-rays didn't show anything wrong with her heart, not did her blood work thankfully. Contacting a cardiologist here soon.
Edit: Ninja'd by the lady herself :P

Treppa, be careful with the heart thing, My step father in law had a mild heart attack last year, and you don't wanna play around with stuff like that. He is in his late 40's btw.

Yay! They said no sign of heart attack, so that is goodness. The PA and ER physician looked frankly baffled but couldn't find a reason to admit me. No immediate danger.
