Mornin', LPM! How's the snow treating you out in MB?

Morning folks. Happy Hallmark holiday to you all!

I am sad to report that the snow was all gone by 1pm. I guess the ground was just to warm for it to stay longer than that.

Oh and Wharehouse 13 is a great show, IMO. It's a very Geek-centric pleasure. :)

We are. Both of us have an agreement not to celebrate the day with physical presents, so it takes the stress off. I just gotta give her some love and affection :)

Morning all, what did I miss?

Man, it really hurt not giving Mortika's Haga one of my votes, but his time, I had not trouble coming up with 7 candidates, and his sifted to the bottom of those.

I voted for the Haga, because I want to see what Mortika can do in the next round. There were 4 entries that really jumped out at me, but none of the others made a compelling case to keep my vote away, except Lief's and I wasn't going to throw away a vote.

The multiple churjiir entries made it so I didn't vote for any of them. I was hit by the "well, I like this aspect of churjiir 1, and this one for churjiir 2, etc.," so I couldn't pick one out of the bunch.

Mairkurion, did you buy anything at Half-Priced Books yesterday?

Good morning. I'm feeling a little better today, but my wife ended up with an intestinal bug last night.

Mac, congrats on the upcoming wedding! The castle sounds really cool.

Solnes, sorry you've had a long week. Hopefully, it will settle down this week or next.

Urizen, Warehouse 13 is a fun show. I think you'd enjoy it.

Hello, Patrick, Moorluck, and David.

Hi Taig!

Everyone enjoy the morning. I'm off to divest myself of some trash. Then a stroll through the frozen acres ...

Yep. Finally got the Book of Exalted Deeds, and Wotc remaindered Halls of the Giant Kings, so that was a major bargain. Also, got the second Earthsea book for less than a buck.

See, I did think one Churjirr stood out from the rest, although that took me the majority of my deciding time, to be honest. What the heck did everybody see in the oddly named rat king?

Mortika made me love the Haga when I didn't before, but ultimately, I felt the entry was too flawed to take away a vote from my other top six. I still think this year's crop ain't too good at naming things.

Morning, everybody. Going to evening mass so I can have breakfast with my Valentine. Cheap date at Denny's for the win!

Enjoy your date!

Given the exit polling and the general comments, I'm pretty sure I know which churjiir stood out from the pack. He won't need my vote. :)

Morning everybody.

I dislike Valentine's Day. I feel that entire holiday is nothing more than a way for places like Hallmark and jewlery stores to make cash. Shouldn't love be celebrated every day?

Not to mention, I feel it discriminates against unattached people, which I was for a very long time.

That being said, the wife and I are going to enjoy a nice lunch at Outback, then run some errands, then do grocery shopping.

Agreed. Although my hatred for Valentine's Day is more on a philosophical level. Love is an extreme unique thing that takes many, many forms in life, and this one day tries to narrow it down to a box of chocolates and jewelry meant solely for one person to whom you are either interested in romantically or attached to via marriage or a reasonable facsimile. What of the love you bear for your chummers, rentz and unrequited folk?

But yeah, I'm taking the wife out to breakfast and then we're going to a movie or something.

You are out of control! ;)

By chance do the dancers give more personal attention on Sundays?

A friend.

Wow, lotta hate for SVD. The wife asked me, "You're not getting me a card tomorrow, right?" Now, since I was using a card that was already in my card box, I could honestly say I wasn't getting a card, and I certainly wasn't doing anything with it "tomorrow" other than giving it to her, since I had already written the card. Then at midnight I gave her her card, and of course she was all surprised and said I fooled her, upon which I had to quote her and explain the literal exegesis of what she had said. No flowers this year, as she still has her 6+ mos roses.

The Thing from Beyond the Edge wrote:

I wouldn't know; this is the first time in the four years that we've been going to strip clubs on Valentine's Day that it falls on a Sunday.

Champagne treatment? My friend is only a snowbird though. He has a house in Montana and a place here in Scotttsdale. He comes down for the winter and as soon as it warms up he goes back to Montana.

Hmm...good question.

TAD: just remember, strip joints is where you go to look at girls, not meet girls. I say this just in case you get advice from Urizen & Moorluck while I'm not looking.

I'm not dumb; I knew that already.

I didn't say you were dumb. Just male, and subject to our foibles. Also, I'm watching who's advising you... :P

Nah, I dated a stripper way back. I dont advise it, unless you are mature/easy going enough to deal with her putting her crotch in other guys faces for dollar bills. :P

Enjoy your trip to the club, TAD. I'm glad to hear your friend is getting you out of the house for a bit.

Valentine's Day has been fairly subdued for me and my wife, but that's typical. We don't go out to celebrate, because we'd pretty much have to go at 2:30 or go to McDonald's to avoid an hour-long wait. Since she's not feeling well, I'll try to do something nice for her today.

Just wanted to give everyone a heads up before Wednesday, I will be taking some time off of posting for Lent. Amongst other things. So if you do not hear from me, I am ok and will be back soon.

Hmm... I'm no Lentil, but if I had to give something up...

Man, I don't know. I lead a pretty self-deprived existence as it is. Maybe I should go the other way with it and just pig out on vices. ;) Try and see if I can corrupt myself into some Jabba the Hutt like creature.

I've dated an ex-stripper too. And Mairk is right; just look at 'em. I don't recommend a relationship with them. Sorry ladies to those who may pursue this career. ;)

Nothing wrong with a nice roll in the hay with them though. ;)

Posting online...I have to have some access since I have to work, But truth be known some day I guess I am on the 'puter so much I don't respond very well when talked to. So it is more of a balance thing. Pay MORE attention to the wife and kids.

The main thing is Sugar actually. I will also probably cut back a lot on meat. More salads. I wont give up meat mind you. I'm carnivorous that way.:) But a cheese burger or two not eaten will not starve me. Little or no sugar is actually beneficial for me so just giving up sweets in and of itself is not "enough."

So yeah in a way I am giving up but in a way everything will be good for me too. Conundrum.

All perfectly understandable.

I need to severely reduce sugar from my diet. I managed to do it for 3 months, and I was amazed at the "buzz" I got from sugar the first time I had a doughnut. Of course, that and general stress were the beginning of the end for me. :)

CrimJ, your "Wall of text" comment inspired me to borrow a spell and reinterpret it. I put it in the same thread. :)

Edit: NM, you just saw it.

The Exchange

At least you're actually giving up something you enjoy CrimJ. I know alot of folks who pick something they hardly ever partake of to give up for Lent. My Mother in Law hardly ever eats chocolate, but every year that's what she gives up. Silly ain't it.
