Summoner PbP at White Plume Mountain (Pathfinder)

By request and goading, I'm just about ready to start a Play by Post and Playtest exclusively for the Summoner class. I am looking for a party of 4 to 5 Summoners.

This is a 7th level adventure which has made the voyage from AD&D all the way through 3rd, and is now going to be rebulit by me for a romp through Pathfinder.

Allowed Materials:
• All material from Pathfinder Core, save classes
• Content from Pathfinder Adventure Paths
• Some lower Level monster races from the Pathfinder Beastiary (although I would much perfer Core races only)
• Traits from the Pathfinder Traits download.
• Pathfinder Chronical setting material, player companions, guides, and such is also allowable. But check with for the 3.5 content to see if it needs adjustment for Pathfinder.

At this time I cannot allow other material, even OGL content.

Starting Level: 7th
Races: Core + possibility of Beastairy races
Classes: Only Summoner!
Stats: Standard Fanasty (15) point buy
Gold: 23,500
Aligments: Any, but must be able to work in a group.
EXP track: Fast (EXP will be awarded asap for challenges and if there is a level up it can be done instantly)


im up for playtesting the summoner, but the description of this reminds me of an old Warcraft 3 map...hehe...

the name will be Thunder-Klar, a human shoanti summoner, will work on it after lunch.

I'm taking the sneaky role, myself. My character is underway; she has decent stealth and good diplomacy, and her eidolon will take care of some sneaking, scouting, and tracking.

How're we handling hit points? And from 3.5, can I port Lesser Vigor from the Spell Compendium as a replacement for Cure Light Wounds in wands?


This is Thunder-Klar, ive taken the armoured tank fighter approach and Ravn has taken the mounted combat approach.

im pretty muich finished, i just need to write up a backstory, and get the DM to fine tooth comb my character.

i decided against the different profile for the eidolon, cleaner outlook in my character's profile.


Well. Including the person who originally requested this game happen, I'm counting six players for a 4-5 player game. ^^U

Anyways, I now have Myrin and Silva. And I like Silva's +30 stealth mod. :P

Background forthcoming, though I'm not at all familiar with the PF campaign setting.


i dont know, if i get picked, then so be it, if not, then no hard feelings, i havent built a summoner yet, so this was a good experience.

Sorry for my absence, been worrying about the "updates".

So far I see two front-line summoners(Thunder and Ravn's), a sneaky pair, and... no archer. Guess I get to play an archer! Will start working on him(or her) now. Perhaps a mounted archer...


Yeah but i realized that the adventure takes place in a dungeon - probably not the best place to bring a large flying monster. So I have skipped the wings and have made him a large bipedal grappler instead. But he is still equipped with a saddle so he can be ridden.

Well, mounted combat aside, why not a small flying creature?

Expanded: Or are we just using some of the updates? No armor and maybe nixing the standard action casting of Summon Monster, I'm fine with, but for the revert to rounds/level and the one instance limit on the Summon Monster SLA, that really should be either/or.


Given the amount of creatures a Summoner can field, I'll opt to make the party a lower number, as there will already have to be.. what, 12 creatures to worry about?

Even if we don't use Jason's updates, the chances of needing to summoning anything other than our Eidolons are low(in my opinion, which is subject to change). Probably use them for utility purposess anyway...

would you still be doing a play test or just a regular PbP? I'm cool with either one, just trying to see what type of character I need ti be thinking about.

It could be a Summoner only playtest or a playtest for any of the new classes. The choice is up to the players.

I think it could be fun to do a playtest class only game.

Well I'd like to play a summoner so I'm good either way. I think it would be fun to see multiple playtest classes in action, though. Assuming you are running the playtest, with the updated version of the summoner found here I plan on playing a summoner archer combo. If you are using the original version I may change things up a bit.

Since I do not believe the changes are temporary(It has been stateed that they are, but...), I would prefer the use of the original.


Ok, then scratch the archer type idea. I will make a more traditional style summoner. I didn't like the changes much either, so it will be fun to test out the summons at minutes/level. Next question is what level are we starting at?


i'm going with an alchemist or an inquisitor.

If we are playing the summoner only platest, then I will use Thunder-Klar (will update to any level required), if not, I think I will use either a Half Orc Witch or Half Elf Inquisitor of Calistria.

I'm going to cast my vote for the 1,2,3. I think the 1,2,3 will show the viability of the new classes to work as a group. My first choices for characters are a Summoner or an Inquisitor, but I don't mind playing something else if someone else has their eye on either of those classes.


I'm waiting to see what ~isn't~, before I decide what my class is.


I'm in the same boat as Me'mori on this one, I'll wait to see what is or isn't before deciding completely.


I think Dragonborn3 was asking us to vote whether we wanted an all summoner game, or APG playtest game. That is all I really intended to do with my post above. I think both games will be fun to play, I was just casting my vote so we can move on into character creation :)
