It's the beauty of working at an Arts Focus PUBLIC middle school. Talented parents and community good will.
BTW the mask maker is Monica Roxburgh of Goblin Art. I commissioned the Skinsaw cultists masks from her They make great props for any ROTRL campaign and she could probably do more. I know she will make more of this design if asked for a mere 85.00. So if you need a cool costume for next Paizocon...

Do you happen to have a copy of the script? I'm assuming you wrote the transcript for the characters. I'd be interested in reading that. Any chance you'd make it available? And who's idea was it? Yours, a students, or did more that one source know of burnt offerings?

I need to talk to Lisa and Eric about releasing the script. It is their original work. I wrote the play, using some of James Jacobs original dialogue. I got the idea for doing the play after being a player in ROTRL. I was struck by how amazing the writing was and how perfectly it fit into the Hero journey stories that I have been working on with my students. I have been gaming for 30 years, and thoughtful, gaming, story-telling doesn't get better than Paizo.
These are the first pictures *ever* to have made me want to enter the halls of a middle school again. Oh, the memories, they burn...
This looks like a really amazing production! Break some legs tonight (particularly Goblin legs)!

I think all the videos need to be rounded up (school play? There will be more than one), the footage edited, and then it should be streamed for our viewing pleasure. Who in the Paizo family is good at making speeches? Erik? The Chief? Sure, throw in a speech before the play. Also, new ENnie category: Best Play based on an RPG. And let's only have gold in this category, so as to not dilute the honor. And...and...

I once said to Nick Logue that he'd made me think about expatriating to the U.S.for the first time in my life. And this here would be one more reason. I can't even imagine something like this to happen at a german school. Great work, all.
Just so you know, our set designer/painter is an amazing German native named Brigitte from Nurnburg. So, you wouldn't be alone. A lot of the set was inspired from my 2 years in Germany.

Ich lebte in Rheintal. Worms fur eine jahre und den eine kleine stadt namens Dexheim. Funfzig kilometres sud-ost von Mainz/Weisbaden. Ich war iin der Army.
I fell in love with Germany. Beautiful Hessan landscapes leading into Bavarian hills and lakes. Some of the schonsten schlosser in all of Europe. The people were great. I have never met such loyal friends. I still yearn for authentic Jagerschnitzel, dunkelbrot and Deutsche Schokoladen kuchen. Most of all, I miss the long walks through grape fields and medieval towns.
You really are fortunate to live there.
I'll add my congratulations to the mix. This is so fantastic!
Saw it saturday night and had a blast. The gamer section applauded louder than the parents! Everything about it exceeded my expectations. Every part of this play comes across as a love letter to High Adventure.
Favorite parts:
-The Innkeeper and the Gnome. Those girls were absolutely adorable!
-The Cleric of Desna actually had some decent comedic chops.
-The set and costumes were TOTALLY AMAZING.
-Gamer shout-outs. I could actually tell what spells they were casting!
-It has to be the first theatrical production in history to name check "Vancian Casting" in the dialogue. That's worth five bucks right there.
I went with ten people, and all of us were utterly giddy through the entire play. I think our enthusiasm might have bummed out some of the parents in our section though, which I feel a little bad about. Nonetheless, I'll be back next weekend. If you have any love for D&D and you live in PDX you need to support this. I mean, I still kinda can't believe I live in a city where stuff like this happens.
Just wondering, how many of the kids in the play either have played ROTR before the play or are now playing it because of the play? Were RPGs a new concept to them? Were they more focused on the story of the play itself rather than where the story's inspiration came from?

We are videotaping the play. I'm not sure what we're going to be doing with it, though. There are probably a few issues to work out on that (rights, releases, etc.). But first, a lot of editing to be done.

You could ask the Paizo staff if it is okay to put up on you Tube or something. Disclaimer Kevin Mack is not a lawyer and has next to no knowledge on how laws on this works

I just returned from the cast party. My son, Stryder, informed me that I needed to bring some dice, books and figures. When I arrived a dozen of the young actors were literally waiting at a table with pieces of paper and pencils, ready to roll up characters.
After a couple of hours, we finally had just enough time to set up a simple combat situation so they could look at how it works.
Paizo, expect a rather large order from the Portland area at Christmas time. And so a new generation begins....
