Pathfinder stabilization works differently than 3.5 stabilization does. It's a Constitution check, DC 10, with a penalty equal to your current hp total. (Don't forget the Con damage you took from the poison, however.)

Sovereign Court

Male Human Swashbuckler/Bard Gestalt L4 | AC21T16F15) CMD22 | HP 48/48 | Save F2R8W3 | Init +6 | Percep +3 | Panache:4/4 | Bard Perf: 12/12

Mario makes an acrobatic leap and tumble to attack the snake in a flanking position. As he does he weaves around in a drunken stagger. Attacking Defensively, AC becomes 21.

Acrobatics: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 25

Flanking defensive attack: 1d20 + 4 - 4 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 4 - 4 + 2 = 21
Critical Threat. Roll to confirm: 1d20 + 4 - 4 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 4 - 4 + 2 = 22
Rapier damage if hit: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
(Double this if Critical confirms)

"Hah!"

Daelin, if you could make sure to either not drag Lyre all the way out or at least not around a corner from me, I plan on channeling positive energy on my action to stabilize both her and Martha.

Female Gnome Sorceror (fey) 1

Stabilisation check dc 17

1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14

I figured I would drag her back just past you. Out of reach of the snake, hopefully.

Mario's rapier stabs deep into the snake's hide, piercing the thick scales to hit something vital within. It lets out an odd, inhuman scream and turns toward him, fangs flashing.

Daelin grabs the fallen gnome and pulls her back away from the fight, getting herself and Lyre both out of harm's way.

The snake lashes out at the source of its pain, trying to end that pain quickly. Bite attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12; damage 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5. The thing's wounds are clearly affecting it, however, and Mario easily knocks the blow aside with his blade.

Lyre needs to make another Fort save (again including the effects of her Constitution damage) to resist 1d2 ⇒ 1 additional Con damage as well as a stabilization check, and it's Tsadok's turn.

Female Gnome Sorceror (fey) 1

Poison save

Tippy holds up his left hand, and the butterfly shaped mark on his palm glows, as a wave of warmth and contentment bursts from him.

Desna, lighten our burdens!

Channel Positive Energy (excluding the snake) 1d6 ⇒ 6.

Edit: Sweet, I'm liking that roll!

Okay... Let's get the snake to hate Tsadok more...

"Who ordered the snake sausages?"

Flurry of Blows (figuring the +2 flanking bonus in):
Strike One:
1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 121d6 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
Strike Two:
1d20 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 = 181d6 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6

Once everyone is SAFELY out of the kitchen, Tsadok will try to lure the snake his direction... provided he's standing.

"Try feasting on something closer to your own size!" shouts Antianel as he swings as the snake. Curve blade with flank and Power Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25; damage 1d10 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12. Crit confirm 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17; damage 1d10 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15.

A wave of healing energy washes over the group from Tippello's hands, soothing Lyre's and Martha's wounds. While Tsadok's blows do not manage to drive through the snake's thick scales, Antianel manages to slash deeply enough that, combined with Mario's earlier thrust, the snake can take no more, and it falls to the kitchen floor, bleeding out its life on the ceramic tiles.

End of combat. 160 XP for each of you, plus another 80 XP each for keeping Martha alive.

Perception checks, DC 15:
In the remains of the woven basket that once held the snake - a basket clearly too small to have contained an animal of that size - you discover a small, crudely drawn potrait of Saul, but with both hands missing and replaced with stumps. Across the bottom, angular characters spell out a threatening warning: "Looking to go two for two, Saul? Pack up and get out of town and you'll be fine!"

Perception
1d20 + 9 ⇒ (14) + 9 = 23

Tsadok will point out the basket as shown in the spoiler, and also observe:
"That snake's much too large for this basket. Perhaps a bit of magic was involved. Anyone see anything on the basket?"

Everyone feel free to read the spoiler.

"I'm beginning to believe Mr. Zincher was a decoy. That snake literally had Saul's name on it." Daelin comments while propping Lyre's head against her knee.

Tippy looks relieved when the snake finally drops. And then rather annoyed to find out that Clegg Zincher was quite possibly responsible for the trouble. He then raises his left hand again and another wave of energy pulses from him as he praises Desna.

I will go ahead and let off another Channel Positive Energy to try and make everyone concious and make sure they stay alive.

1d6 ⇒ 3

If my math is right, Lyre is still unconcious after that channel

Tippy sees that Lyre is still not coming around and moves over to check on her.

I'll change out shield of faith for a cure light wounds on Lyre 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3 and also see if I can help her fort save against the poison if she still needs it with a Heal check 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20.

I think she was at 0 hp, which would make her conscious but disabled.

As Tippello treats Lyre, Martha stirs and opens her eyes, looking around in confusion. At the same time, Saul bursts into the kitchen, looking around in confusion, Larur right behind him. "What's going on in here?" Saul cries, eyes widening at the sight of the dead snake. Larur looks shocked as well, but he moves first to check on Lyre and to speak quietly to Martha, taking her hand and helping her to slowly sit up.

Smiling to Saul, Tsadok says "We've got a new special for a couple of days. Antaniel and Mario've already insured the butchering. All we need now is an open fire and a tin can." Yes, he is talking about cooking the snake... all snakes are edible, even poisonous ones.

Speaking directly to Saul, "Outside of the new blue plate special, I believe your life is directly in danger, and this casino may be part of that danger."

DM:

Spoiler:
The reason Tsadok is joking about the snake is that if any of the patrons heard, they'll need a reason for the screaming. A good story would be the scary half-orc ordered a big snake to serve as a special... even though we all know that's not the case. And yes, snake tastes like chicken.

"I'll have it breakfast, lunch and dinner," Martha mutters under her breath, feeling gingerly where the now-closed wound on her leg was. The area is still swollen and purple-black, and it will probably be days yet before she is completely recovered, but she nevertheless struggles to her feet (with Larur's help) and limps to Tippello, at which point she gives the halfling a bonecrushing hug. "Thank you," she says, smiling down at him. "Thank you so much."

Tsadok Duskwalker wrote:

"What do you mean?" Saul asks, frowning. "Was this some kind of attack?"

Were either Lyre or Tippy planning to follow up on Tsadok's question about magic on the basket?

Female Gnome Sorceror (fey) 1

Lyre is actually more concerned about whether the snake is dead or not (basically if there is still a chance to stabilise it or not.

Lyre wrote:

I suppose that would depend on whether you can beat Tsadok to the butchering stage. It is still technically alive, at -5 hp.

Female Gnome Sorceror (fey) 1

"We cant eat the snake" Lyre suddenly pipes up from where she is seated on the floor "I mean it's not his fault someone else put him in a basket and dumped him in the middle of our kitchen."

Mario answers; "My dear Saul, the people who so generously left us a new pet," he vaguely gestures to where Lyre is giving the snake CPR, "Also left a note." Mario hands it over.

Female Gnome Sorceror (fey) 1

"We could make it the Goblins new mascot?" Lyre chimes in as she attempts to stabilise the snake

Heal check

1d20 ⇒ 7

"Err a little help please?"

Looking up from his study of the basket, with an incredulous expression for Lyre.

By Desna's sparkling wings, you can't b e serious? That thing nearly killed you!

I'll go ahead and cast detect magic on the basket. Won't tell me as much as I'd like though since I don't have any ranks in spellcraft yet. (next level I plan to though)

I guess I'll attempt a Heal check on the snake to help Lyre, at least then it won't die and make the decision for us.(perhaps we could use it in the arena and make some more revenue off of Mr. Zincher)

Heal check 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24

While Lyre and Tippello work to save the snake's life, Saul takes the note and reads it. His face darkens as his eyes move down the page, and he crumples up the note and hurls it to the floor when he finishes it, snarling, "I will not be frightened like a little child!"

Larur picks up the note and smoothes it out for reading. His thick eyebrows climb nearly up to his hairline, but all he says is, "Martha, why don't you take the rest of the night off, and I'll be sure that there is a little something extra with your pay this week, okay?" The cook nods and Larur helps her hobble up the stairs to the worker's dormitory.

The snake will not die, but it will be days yet (barring magic) before it is fully healed. Would Lyre consent to allowing it to be used in the arena, and if not, what are her plans for the oversized king cobra?

Tippello Tabinero wrote:

There is no magical aura on the basket. There is, however, a lingering aura on the snake itself; with some squinting, Tippy is able to recognize it as a transmutation effect, though the aura dims to imperceptibility even as he is looking at it.

Tsadok's former jovial facade disappears as he speaks once Martha has left.

"Saul, who does this type of thing? Was it one of Clegg's men? Perhaps someone who wants to do things to frame Clegg? These are important questions, as we should be able to stop this kind of behavior in the future if we know who to look for."

Tsadok thinks for a moment, "We shouldn't be this direct, though. There's not a good reason for that."

To Tipello, "Do we know if magic was involved in the basket?"

DM:

Spoiler:
Thinking about things with Sam, Tsadok will offer to pay her once he starts getting money from the casino. He'll give her half of what he earns (he doesn't use it anyways), so that she can focus full-time on the blot. There, she's happy, and Tsadok has a full-time researcher helping him. Given this evening's events, he'll be happy to prevent putting her in such harm's way. He will describe the evening to her the next time they talk.

Tsadok wrote:

Magic was not involved with the basket. There was however a lingering aura on the snake.

Knowledge (arcana) 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15

If I had to make a guess, I would say someone somehow shrunk the snake, then had it delivered and just let the spells effect wear off naturally.

Ah to be honest Lyre probably hasn't thought that far a head. Letting it be used in the arena would be fine with her long as they kept it fed and such.

"How powerful is that sort of magic, Tippello? I want to know the general power level of those that are tormenting us if we can. A general range would be nice if you could." Tsadok inquires, his brow furrowed. "What do you want us to do, Saul? I'd be happy to look into it, but I would be hopelessly outnumbered, I'm sure. That, and not having any spellcasting talent of my own might prove to be a problem."

Yes, I know how powerful those things are OOC, but Tsadok really doesn't understand the general power levels of magic (yet).

Tsadok wrote:

I'm not entirely sure, more advanced than anything I can do for certain. And I'm quite sure it's not somethng Desna could grant me, it isn't divine in nature. Perhaps Lyre could tell you more.

"Fair enough, thank you Tippello. What say you, Lyre?" Tsadok says earnestly.

"I want to know what I need to do to make security work here, if I don't have an idea, I can't do anything about it. Saul, perhaps it would be wise to bring someone with some magical talent up to the rafters to watch for something of this nature with me."

Sorry for the silence the last couple days - couple long days at work, and I'm trying to fight off a cold as well. Both things seem to be looking up now, however.

Tsadok Duskwalker wrote:

"Do about it?" Saul asks, looking surprised. "Nothing, of course. There's really nothing we can do. I'm sure it's Zincher, but in this town, justice is all in who is stronger and who's got more influence, and we can't come close to matching him either way. We'll have to keep a sharper eye out to protect ourselves, but any aggressive moves at this point would be suicide, really, nothing more."

Tsadok Duskwalker wrote:

"If Tippello or Lyre want to join you in the catwalks, they're welcome to, but I can't possibly hire any magical security - wizards just cost too much, especially in this town, with the Cyphermages muscling in wherever they can. The only good thing about that is that they're too expensive for Zincher to use regularly either, I'd bet, so we probably won't have to worry about that kind of attack often. This was Zincher making a point, I think; I doubt he'll be that flashy next time."

Tsadok:
Man, if only you knew someone with both magical talent and keen half-elven sense, who also happens to be desperately looking for a job... ;)

A short while later, Saul's surly animal handler, Bojask, comes upstairs to start wrestling the snake down the stairs to the pens; it takes him, Antianel and Mario together to manage it. As they get the snake settled in one of the cages near the arena, Bojask smiles unsettlingly and licks his lips as he considers his new acquisition.

The next couple of days are fairly quiet, and at long last, the Goblin's first week of business comes to a close. Saul retires to the counting room to assess the week's profits and hand out shares.

Okay, let's do that Day Job thing here. Tippy's already rolled his, managing a total +4 bonus to Saul's check, but remember that Saul's starting out with a -1 penalty as well, since the casino's definitely struggling to get off the ground. If you need a refresher on how this works, please feel free to reread the post I made here. (And just to clarify, yes, you can do the same two-hour thing twice.)

Antianel continues his work at the front door, glaring at anyone who seems likely to cause trouble for the casino or its patrons.

Two Intimidate checks, DC 15: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11; 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13. :P Looks like I'm no help at all this week. At least I didn't cause a penalty...

Bluff

I believe Tipello was hoping to use his bit of luck re-roll on sauls end of week role as well?

Daelin spends her time performing tricks on the main floor and being a barker outside of the Goblin.

Sleight of Hand 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27, Bluff 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11

That's a two-hour gig - you can roll it again, or do something else for another check as well, if you want.

Yep. I remember!

Female Gnome Sorceror (fey) 1

Lyre will stick to what she is good at

Bluff

1d20 + 8 ⇒ (15) + 8 = 23

"Saul, if you please, I know someone with magical talent, who is looking for work at this time, who could prove quite valuable. I'm sure that the salary would be easily negotiated. However, the person I'm thinking of should not be part of the "normal" security, like me. I would only recommend them if they were to remain out of harm's way, only looking for the magical problems." Tsadok says. "As a matter of fact, they are doing research right now, and do have the requisite magical talent to find unwanted magical auras."

DM:

Spoiler:
Thanks for getting a way for Sam to come in. Any chance I could make her a follower or cohort at any point?

Oh, almost forgot the day job! Perception for cheats, liars, and general ne'er do wells:

For two hours a day, Mario will act as a Barker, entreating people to come inside for a good time...

Bluff check (DC15): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23
Looks good for the bonus +1

For another two hours a day, Mario will entertain the crowd with flashy acrobatic stage swordplay (perhaps with a couple of guys to act as foils).

Acrobatics (DC15): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8
Doh! Looks like a miserable failure to entertain, for penalty -1

Saul nods thoughtfully. "If you want to hire this person and we can afford it, I'm willing to talk to them," he says.

Tsadok:
Not a problem. ;) And yes, she can be taken as a sidekick, if/when you make it that high...

Okay then. I'll roll a second check. Tsadok will talk to Sam.

Perception (second roll)
1d20 + 9 ⇒ (15) + 9 = 24

"Thank you, Saul. I'll be sure to have them stop by."

Spoiler:
Tsadok will talk to Sam and let her know the pay won't be a lot (hey, it's work!), but he'll be able to get her work. She'll be detecting magical things coming into the casino, safely in the catwalks with Tsadok.

Okay, so here's the total modifier: + 6 (Saul's Profession) - 1 (current profitability) + 2 (Tippy) + 2 (Tippy's gold) + 0 (Antianel) + 2 (Lyre) + 1 (Daelin) + 2 (Tsadok) + 0 (Mario's net result) = +14, against DC 25, with Saul getting the best of two rolls: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (2) + 14 = 16; 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (14) + 14 = 28. Success!

Saul comes out of the counting room, humming to himself, and he smiles broadly as he passes out the first week's wages to the group - 10 gp for each part-owner. (For the sake of argument, we'll say that's Daelin's first week's pay as well.) He seems quite pleased with how things are turning out.

The next day is Sunday, and the casino is closed, but Saul introduces you all to his latest hire: a half-elven woman with distinctive tattoos across her face and down her right arm named Samaritha ("Call me Sam!") Beldusk, who is apparently a cyphermage-wannabe brought on board via Tsadok to help with magical security. She greets you all with a mixture of curiosity and shyness, but she seems completely comfortable with the half-orc monk.

Anybody got any plans for the next week around the Goblin?

DM Shisumo wrote:
Anybody got any plans for the next week around the Goblin?

During off time, Tsadok is going to go over magical theory with Sam, mainly trying to understand it, as well as work on the problem that is the "blot." Other than that, a double shift at the Goblin would be fine with him. There's not a lot of action, and we cannot afford to lash back out even if we wanted to at this point. He will go over more security with the wait staff and the kitchen staff as well, reminding them to run to HIM if there's a major problem.

Perception rolls for the goblin:
Roll one:
1d20 + 9 ⇒ (19) + 9 = 28
Roll two:
1d20 + 9 ⇒ (16) + 9 = 25

Tippy will spend some time snooping around town to try and dig up any info on those that wish ill towards our establishment.

Diplomacy for gathering information using "Bit of Luck" 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16 or 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8

And for the next weeks rolls as usual with "Bit of Luck".
Pit Boss/Greeter 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15 or 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11
Animal Pit Healer 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23 or 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8
