But, I hate the idea that a 10-year-old elf is still only barely two feet tall and has only just figured out how to walk (still falls down a lot despite the +2 DEX modifier). And a 50-year-old elf is still barely four feet tall and still thinks Naruto is cool and girls have cooties...

Hey, if these elves are so smart, how come they havn't figured out you can stab with a longsword for piercing damage? Not that any other race is smarter, just sayin :)

And it's a legitimate opinion, just not one we all share Lokie.

Like I said, in my games half-elves get free choice of ANY exotic weapon they wish. It could be a laser gun (assuming I put laser guns in the setting, maybe it's set in Numeria or something) for all I care lol.

Which of course is a legitimate House-Rule for your game. Props for allowing your players the option. :)

Yeah, I know, just a houserule of course :) But when people start throwing the word balance around like the core rules are perfect it makes me want to throw houserules that break their sense of balance yet are balanced in experience back at them.

Sheesh... D&D longswords all have a little rubber cap on the end. Didn't you know that?

Wouldn't want anyone to accidentally poke an eye out. Thats dangerous. :)

Didn't you say you were running a bard? In that case, you wouldn't get the elven curve blade even as a pure elf since you aren't proficient with all martial weapons.

That being said, if all you really need is the elven curve blade, then you can get it as a member of any race or class by spending your starting feat to get it - so all the flavor you want, without disrupting game balance.

Actually the scenario changed to a Rogue-2/fighter-2. I conceded on the Bard aspect, maybe thas was another thread though.

This is all house rules. But the OP wasn't asking about balance between races, he was asking about whether a specific trade was a fair swap. Your ruling is based on your personal decision that half elves are underpowered and need some sort of compensation and doesn't attempt to be equitable at all.

Depends on what you mean by equitable. By my understanding of the word, equitable roughly translates to fair/equal, and that's what my personal ruling is intended to provide half-elves.

Now if you mean fair/equal to the core half-elf, then yeah, it's not equitable, and isn't intended to be. Don't get me wrong, Pathfinder definitely improved half-elves, they're playable now for certain, but they still feel like they're falling a little short.

um... where did his post go? lol

Sorry about that, I deleted it because I saw above that the OP was looking at a martial class and the whole topic is moot.

Also, I just realized that the OP made two threads on the same subject but with different approaches and I was confusing the two.

But... I thought we were done arguing over BOWS by now ;) lol

A bit boggled by the "The weapons aren't really all that good as it is".

We are talking about the long sword and composite long bow here.

Don't forget the rapier. If you want to go the finesse path, that's a really nice weapon. Plus, it has a great crit range.

Weylin wrote:

Even with rapid reload, the composite longbow still beats out both crossbows from where i look at it.

The crossbows do have their niche: If you're a weakling, they're quite decent. No strength penalty to attack rolls.

And they have a bigger crit modifier.

Plus, if you have access to the right feats, they can be really nice.

Other way around. Crossbows have a higher crit range (19-20), bows have a higher crit modifier (x3). :)

That's the crit multiplier.

But you're right: I meant to say range. Modifier is ambiguous.

Those bells only make a sound when I will them to.

Do you know how high people can jump when suddenly, a lot of ominous little bells are jingling right behind them?

Kinda like in anime when the "evil" priest shows up and the first thing you hear is the "chime" from his staff.

Yeah but this is Kae we are talking about so he doesn't manage that level of spooky... he hits at about the hokie level that the little green guy in Inuyasha hits.
