Welcome to the Council of Thieves campaign! Take your shoes off, have a seat, and relax. Here is the place for all manner of discussion regarding the campaign.
First off let me tell you that I’ve been playing RPGs for about fifteen years, most of that spent on the GM side of things. I’ve also been following Pathfinder since it started so I have a good grasp of the rules. I’ve GMed PbP campaigns before but never actually gotten to finish one. I hope for this to be the first.
My style leans more to the RP side of the scale than the combat side so I do love well fleshed out characters as well as ones that can create their own RP. So feel free to be creative. This is as much your story as it is mine.
As far as format, my only concern is that when it comes to rolled actions you only post attempting something, followed by what you rolled and what the result was. I trust you to make your own rolls, cheating at an RPG is pretty inane in my opinion. Aside from that, just know that I will always try to give everyone a chance to have an input but if delays become excessive I will skip you, especially in combat. So if you’re going to be AFK for a few days or on vacation, please let me know.
What I need? Just for everyone to have complete character sheets. I would also like to have everyone’s email address and I promise not to spam you with anything. Once everyone has a complete sheet we can start.
If anyone has any questions please just ask.

You can reach me at nerfdragoon1994 at yahoo dot com. I will look at picking up the third trait you mentioned, and will tweak the character sheet to finalize.
I have played RPG's for a little over 25 years, having started with my old trusty red box basic set. Over that period I have often taken extended breaks from gaming. I recently took a government enforced break from gaming, as I was overseas, and have gotten home to find 3.5E totally abaondoned and 4E totally lame. I discovered Pathfinder a few weeks ago, and realized that the Lord really does listen.
I also tend to mostly DM, but am hoping to use this PBP to get my feet wet and develop a better appreciation for the rules so I can get a local game running. I live in Northern MD in case anybody is close. I have been trying to find a local gaming group with little luck.
Expect my revised sheet later tonight. I will be going camping Sunday night but should be back in the loop Monday evening. Later - Joe

My e-mail is Hammith at Gmail dot com, but more importantly here's my character. He's the tallest Gnome to have ever lived, an adopted human that became a cleric of Shelyn. Still working a bit on appearance, but he'll have quite a few bright colors on him.
Also, still have to do equipment, but I'll get to that sometime later in the day.

OK, this should be the final draft. I added Scholar of the Great Beyond as my final trait and shifted my Knowledge Rank from Nature to the Planes.
The background is updated to ensure there is a more explicit reason for Sordello to have issue with the City government. In his case, they covered up his mother's death.
As mentioned, I will be offline until Monday. I look forward to hearing from everybody later and getting started.

I've looked over both of your character sheets and they look fine to me. Good work on the backgrounds and thanks for giving me some good stuff to work with. With people being out and about I don't anticipate us starting until At least Monday but probably Tuesday or Wednesday before everything is finally settled and ready.
Just to give a heads up and get your opinion... The Campaign starts with some individual RP with each of you. I can think of two effective ways to do this.
1.) I can do it by email starting at any time.
2.) I can do everyone at once once all sheets are done and we're completely ready on the board using the spoiler button to hide each person's text.
Let me know which you would prefer.

Corvus Raaf |

My final character is created (just equipment to buy really). I changed my Campaign Feat so as not to be too similar to other PCs. I can make more changes if necessary.
My reason for being aggrieved by the town is that, as a professional assassin (I only take on jobs that satisfy my own moral code of righting wrongs), my latest contract was whisked away from under my nose by person or persons unknown.
I take this as a personal insult (and a profesional travesty) so I will turn over every paving stone until I find my 'deader.'
I should have explained - assassins have targets. I have 'deaders.' From the moment I accept a job, the person concerned is already dead. The only question remains, how long do they have to live?

Aluvian |

Thanks for your character sheets and explanations of how the government wronged you. So far everything looks great, but I'll do a more thorough read through when I have a bit more time.
Corvus - You can use the standard 1st lvl starting gold for your character. Either take the average or roll.
Genevieve - If you're interested in your twin joining us I have some ideas for him but I'd like to get an idea of what you had in mind for him. I'm just going off of the references in your BG right now. I'd like to coordinate him as much as possible.

I'd prefer number 1, personally, but if everyone's up for number 2, I'm fine with that, too.

Koveluss was originally a tiefling bard (here), complications during the birth of the twins was the cause of their mother's death and the fact that Koveluss had tainted blood was a great source of controversy.
I'm thinking that the cause of Genevieve's animosity towards Westcrown's establishment could be the repeated mistreatment of her brother due to his bloodline.

As everyone is either complete, or nearly complete, with their characters, I'll be starting up the campaign here soon.
Since it seems at least half the people want me to run the opening by emails, I'll start that today. It may take a bit to work through that, so when we're done, we'll start up the actual thread.

Aluvian |

Hah! The fact she hasn't got herself killed yet? :P (I was half tempted to get all paranoid based on a false conclusion drawn from that terrible, terrible sense motive roll.)
That would have been pretty funny. But Really if she was going to spring a trap on you guys, she really would have to wait until you were more committed. Otherwise it's just capturing and interrogating you for the heck of it. Which if she could find you all... would have already been done without all the fuss.
Of course... There is something dramatic about bringing you all togeather for a mass arrest too. Hmmmm.... (GM chin tapping)

It looks like things are picking up now! I was going to order the CoT path, as I usually DM, but I am enjoying playing this with no knowledge of the actual path and very little of Glolarion.
One question for Aluvian, my character has knowledge plains and evil outsiders for a favored enemy (maybe I should have picked Hellknight :p). Anyway, does Pathfinder use the same set of oustiders as 3.5E D&D? I just want to make sure that I can role play my character's knowledge realistically when the time comes. Thanks for any advice. Regards - Joe

I'm glad that you're enjoying it. If I'm understanding your question correctly, then yes, they use the same sets of outsiders from the same locals. Some of the flavor has been changed but the essential ellements remain the same. Devils, Demons, Celestials, Elementals, they may have different names or different stories but they all follow essentially the same rules.

I was about to give up on the chance of playing this and prepare to run it for my local group too, but fortunately Aluvian popped up just in time!

Cool, like I mentioned in my emails, I try to push the action as much as I can without stepping on the GM's toes (hopefully) and always giving a way to redirect to the GM. I think it helps when everybody tries to keep it moving, and this is going a lot better than a lot of other PBP's I have been involved in over the years. I am definately having fun!

One more thing. I will be travelling this weekend with the ever lovely Mrs. Cav. Unless I miraculously stumble across an internet cafe at the National Park we will be hiking in, I do not expect to have access to a computer. I will attempt to take one more post after Aluvian does an update, if possible before I leave tomorrow.
I hope the action will continue and will leave "NPC" instructions for Aluvian below.
Tactically, Sordello will attempt to stay near the front of the group as it moves and use his ranger abilities (perception to avoid dangers and detect threats along with survival to help find the markers) to help the group get out of the sewers safely. If it comes to combat, he will use buckler and longsword in the sewers, and will go back to his long bow if they get into open area above ground. No worries if you need to make any rolls for me.

Kleggisnep |

Yes, well, if I'm not posting, don't think it's because I've lost interest. I just have quite a bit of time to check the forums, and if I posted every time I could, there's be about three pages of just Kleggisnep by now. I'm tending to wait until there's about 3-4 posts between each of mine so I don't crowd up the place.

Just to Clarify the current situation, it looks like its Corvus, Blank, Blank, Blank, Sordello. To keep things moving along, I would humbly suggest: Corvus, Klegg, Koveless, Gene, Sordello. I'm not trying to step on any toes, rather, just throw a straw man out there so we can quickly get order established.
BTW, the weekend was great. We were in Shenandoah National Park, and things were brilliant. I also got to tour Lurray caverns, and was worried that if we went any deeper, I was going to have to fend off a bunch of drow with my leatherman. Later - Joe

Aluvian |

As I read it I got Corvus, Janiven, Kleg, Morosino, Gene, Koveless, Sordello. This is the order I'll go with. Morosino is more than happy to fall into the middle as he's just a lad with no weapons.
Glad to hear that your weekend was good. I can't wait to get back to somewhere, anywhere, that has a color other than brown.

Aluvian |

So how this is gonna work, is I'm just going to describe you moving through the sewer, and I'll make your perc. checks to see if you see the markers. You wont have time to be taking 20 at every intersection to find them, so it is possible that you'll miss one. If so, you'll need to just make a guess and keep going, unless you wanna stick around and let the Hellkights catch you.

Aluvian |

This combat I'll be doing more cinimatic, without a grid. This will not be the norm, but for something this minor, I think it works well. The cretures are diminutive, which means they are sharing a space with the targets they are attacking (Gene and Sordello). I'm assuming everyone is in reach as the quarters are still pretty cramped. Please post To Hit and damage rolls and I'll reply with whether you hit and the effect.
This shouldn't be a hard fight after the initial surprise, so have fun squishing some Torbles.

![]() |

Cool, I am going to simply post my response on the game thread, which will be slightly out of initiative order. I know my action will not take effect until my place in order, but I also don't want to hold up the group by waiting for the exact order. I assume Aluvian will simply queue up the actions in the right order. Rat bastages.

![]() |

OK, I will definately be a little more careful if its a combat where it would make a difference, like if someone was getting grappled, or whether its not clear if I would be firing a bow into melee or not. Other than that though, I will generally try to do what I can to keep things moving. Later - Joe

Aluvian |

I just wanted to let you know I'm still here. The past few days have been pretty busy. We're turning over our deployment rotation and getting ready to head home. But I'm still posting! :)
Btw, I realize now that I might have been a little confusing on the tunnel. It meant to read another 'sewer' tunnel. So you aren't actually exiting anywhere quite yet. But'll I'll still keep things going without anyone having to change their posts.

![]() |

OK, thanks for sticking with it. I was pretty busy this weekend, as I am finishing off my terminal leave and going back to my civilian job. I had about 10 play by post chess games going on when I redeployed and really got hammered because of all the distraction. Congratulations this veteran's day. Later - Joe

Hammith |

Sorry, but I'm afraid I'll be gone for a bit, my computer is pretty much dead right at the moment. The video card is fried and it doesn't have integrated graphics, so it might be a week or two before I can really do much. Feel free to NPC Klegg until I can get back. Hopefully it will be sooner, rather than later.
