Subscribers will get the PDF when their copy ships, but the PDF will not be available as a separate purchase until the street date.

The Pathfinder RPG Bestiary arrived in our warehouse today. Here's how the schedule stands:
Today and tomorrow: prep for shipments, ship distributor orders.
Monday is a holiday, so we'll begin shipping subscriber copies and preorders on Tuesday; it'll probably take the rest of the week. Subscribers to the Pathfinder RPG line will get access to the PDF when their subscription copy ships.
Currently, the retail release date is set at November 4 for all outlets. (If any retailer is telling you differently, that's their own choice.) The PDF will be available for sale separately on that date as well, and that's *probably* also the date that we'll add appropriate Open Game Content from the Bestiary to the PRD.

Also, note that Pathfinder RPG subscribers who have Pathfinder Chronicles, Planet Stories, or GameMastery Maps subscriptions—*and* have chosen to hold their products for monthly shipment—will be waiting another week or two until those products arrive.
Those who have Pathfinder Adventure Path subscriptions and have chosen to hold for that will be waiting until the next AP arrives, probably in early November.
If you're in one of those groups and you don't want to wait, now would be a good time to set your RPG subscription to ship as soon as products arrive.

Too late, it's already gone to order status. :(
I didn't know the maps were delayed again. I've been waiting on my core books since August. I put in a service request to Cosmo to not hold the books up waiting on the stupid gamemastery map.

Yes, we received good news and bad news yesterday, after we had begun to preauthorize orders: The good news is that the Bestiary, which we expected next week, was arriving today. The bad news is that Pathfinder Chronicles: Seeker of Secrets and GameMastery Map Pack: Extradimensional Spaces, which we were also expecting next week, won't be arriving for another two weeks. The Ship of Ishtar (Planet Stories) should also arrive about that time.
(Pathfinder Chronicles: Princes of Darkness has arrived and will start going out next week as well.)

I must say. This company goes above and beyond when it comes to keep us in the loop
Thanks for the info Vic
Yup... if they were working for Turbines these guys would be fired.... they are communicating too much with the player base!
thanx guyz!
P.S. Those who play DDO knows what i mean ;)

That IS good news for those of us waiting patiently (or not-so-patiently) to get a copy of the Bestiary. How does that affect the "in stores" date getting a week before you expected?

Oh, all the new things have just registered as one order for me. Is it possible that the Bestiary and Princes of Darkness get shipped separately, so I don't need to wait two more weeks?

We've moved up the retail release date to October 21 (and thus the date that the PDF will be available for purchase by non-subscribers). You may not see that change in our own listing for a little while.
Thanks for the move-up, and thank you for all the forthright communication with us players and GMs. I know it will be an amazing book! As usual, from an amazing company! Thanks PAIZO!

I have a hold nothing subscription. My e-mail said that Seeker, Bestiary and Princes would be one order. Will this automatically split?
Honestly, you can bill me for the Seeker book at the same time and I'll happily wait for print copies of everything. What I would really like to avoid is being held up getting to the pdf of the Bestiary because the order is tied to Seeker.
Any solution that lets me get that pdf as soon as reasonable is win by me.
Thanks

Just a quick mention of wonderful Customer Service. Alison answered an email I sent to ask if the Bestiary could be separated from my Subscription order. She did that for me. I also noticed that in my order record that the original order number for all my subs and the one for the Bestiary are separated by about 1900 orders. That is a difference from Wednesday, Oct 7th, to today, Friday, Oct 9. Just think for a minute about handling 1900 orders in about 3 days.

*sigh*
I'm in the same boat myself, and posted yesterday that I would like my shipment split, no answers, no answers to e-mail. But I see people who posted the same request just 5-6 hours ago being responded to.
That's very very very frustrating. :(

We don't, really. Most overseas distributors have us ship to a consolidator in the US who can combine products from multiple companies into one shipment to save them money; how quickly they ship is between the distributor and the consolidator, and we have no insight into it.
Perhaps some of our other UK readers have an idea of how long stuff "usually" takes to go on sale after the US release date?

Not really, as these items have already migrated from "My Subscriptions" to "My Orders". I'll email Customer Service about this.

I'd like to subscribe to the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Ongoing Subscription but I want to pass on the core rulebook since I already have a copy of that. Is there a way for me subscribe to this today and have the beastiary be the first order?
Haha never mind I figured it out. Really easy too!

Woo-hoo, got that lovely email last night and gave the book a fair skimming. It looks really great, art and layout are beautiful(Bone devils look terrifying now) and a lot of the stat blocks I have seen are really well done.
Dragon build tables make things much easier, addition of all the creatures that can be animal companions stats right there is great and much appreciated by a ranger in one of the games I do, splitting the drow does wonders for keeping them backwards compatible while bringing them more in line with other races and wow are linnorms scary.
So far I have nothing but praise for the book and look forward to giving it an in depth reading soon.
I think my favorite moment so far is that I had a player looking at the art with me and just checking out some of the new monsters and he made a mocking scoff when he saw the name 'Froghemoth' until I scrolled down and he saw what they looked like. He quickly back paddled to not wanting to mess with those. There seem to be a lot of creatures that way, some of those who were scoffed at, ignored, or left out altogether have gotten a treatment now that makes them really interesting or frightening.

Ok so this is it?
I have'nt read the whole bunch of pages but from what i see on the store it says pdf available on october 21st.
So does it means we have to wait that long for the hardcover as well?
sad panda!
No. We withhold the PDF until the retail release date, but if you want a hardcopy, you can order it right now and it should ship in a couple of business days.
(Subscribers get the PDF when their book ships, so if you want he PDF sooner than the 21st, you have you start a Pathfinder RPG Subscription.)

Just as an additional note as I look through the book a bit more, the boost to the Tarrasque and the Krakken is really pretty nice too.
One of the people in my group(who DMs) always had the complaint that for being the legendary monster the Tarrasque wasn't as scary as it should be once you hit a level where it was reasonable for you to be fighting it, since you could cast the spell that would end it and you could do a lot of cheap things to avoid it. Now its regeneration really lets it stay such a legend and it has the ability to fight at range if needed and such. Its very cool.
I also have noticed that there seem to be a lot less creatures that are colossal then there were before and some of the ancient dragons were toned down in CR a bit. Was that done purposefully to have the linnorms be the real kings among dragons in the world?

![]() |

.... I added the "Pathfinder Roleplaying Game" to my moniker just yesterday, and received the .pdf that night. I figured I would be buying the GM screen, the Gamemastery Book, and the Bestiary anyhow.... so why not? I feel I chose very wisely - and encourage anyone considering it to do the same.
Additionally, now that I see how marvelous the creature art is - absolutely amazing btw, I plan to craft my own GM screen exterior panels using a mix of these incredible beasts.
Enjoy! I know you will! The book is very inspiring, moreso than any rpg book I have seen in a long, long time. The quality is through the roof!
Great job, PAIZO!

I've been thinking of doing this with whatever monsters the PCs may face in the adventure.... but only covering the 'normal' panels of the screen when the PC's find these monsters

Good Stuff
The ONLY reason I don't do this is that I love my FLGS, and can't afford to buy a copy from them and from paizo directly. Several of the people that I game with regularly (even at the FLGS) have subscriptions and don't buy from the FLGS, so I try and counter that some by buying from the every time that I can.
(not being holier than thou... just explaining why there isn't a subscription (or three) by my name)

It was done because we weren't big fans of 3rd edition's philosophy of "Let's make the dragons tougher than they should be for their CR score." I can understand the desire to make dragon fights memorable, but it doesn't help CR to be a usable number to purposefully break it. Dragons in the Bestiary are still tough... but they're still within their expected CR for power.
Linnorms are certainly tough, but they're not as tough as great wyrm dragons (note that the pre-built stats for the dragons in the Bestiary do NOT present great wyrms...)

![]() |

Thanks for the response James, as I said I am still slowly working my way through so I hadn't separated 'Ancient Dragon' from 'Great Wyrm Dragon' in my skimming. That does make a lot of sense.
One other question for now, I noticed that the crocodile that is used in the bestiary is large, but even fully advanced the one offered as an animal companion only gets up to medium. There seem to be a number of creatures this way.
I get that some animals that would normally be huge should only go to large in order to be effective animal companions since being too big can be really limiting, but there are a lot of animal companions that do get to large so it stands out when some don't even if their normal animals do.
Was there anything special that made you choose certain ones to keep smaller? I figure there is some balance issue involved, I just wasn't sure what aspect made those ones unbalanced.
Also, is there anything special you did in order to make those creatures smaller versions? Apply the 'Young Creature' template or something?
Thanks for any insights,
-Tarlane

These decisions tended to hinge on the monsters size and its ability scores. We brought some of them down in size for animal companions so that their ability scores (usually Str) was more in line with other companions. The balance on some of these was very tricky, requiring us to make the creature a bit smaller than its corresponding monster entry.

Same boat as well and a little concerned.
Does that mean there'll be a chance to get the pdf before the shipment? I only ask because I'm starting RotRL with Pathfinder and was hoping to at least have the pdf before too long.
I, and my group as well, are dying to get started.
