Just read Wayfinder 1 and it's great one thing that I would ask you for please please consider this to make it easier for us laptop users who read these things. Add navigational bookmarks to your PDFs, like the ones Paizo did to quick click to chapters and particular stories. Since our screen space is scrunched it's really painful to navigate by arrow clicking and direct number entering.

Another suggestion... put in hotlinks in your Table of Contents pages. By thier nature raw PDFs are very painful to navigate compared to print, these two things added in will help immensely in mitigating that.

Liberty's Edge Contributor

Hi, Liz.

I just sent in the linnorm bloodline. I'm not sure if you really need another bloodline, but it seemed to fit in with the theme nations for this issue, so I decided to give it a shot.

Thanks!
Paris

As soon as I find out how to, I will. I totally agree with you.

Believe it or not, Wayfinder No1 is my first work on InDesign, so there are a lot of things I'm yet to learn. Please be patient! :)

Actually I suspect you might need to do those in Acrobat Pro, assuming you got the full Adobe kit, my In Design knowledge is a few years out of date.

If you have any InD questions, I'll be glad to answer them; you can email me: sultan-at-dorkistan-dot-com (minus the hyphens).

Back online but aaaargh(!) still no bestiary here in the UK (or floppy-disk drive).
Will start converting notes back into word document format manually...

Indesign is much better than Quark IMO, I use it everyday.

Argh, the Post Monster ate my reply... shortly put, I haven't used either in so many years that I probably should keep my mouth shut! ;)

I vastly preferred Quark over ID back in the day when I still worked as a graphic designer (I had a burn-out after a few years and re-educated myself, choosing to pursue my bibliophiliac tendencies and studied to become a librarian); I *had* used ID during my studies, but for some reason felt more comfortable with Quark. In fact, pretty much every professional I knew preferred Quark and detested ID as "too primitive". A lot of it may have been just prejudice (I had the same kind of relationship between Illustrator and FreeHand, too).

My brother works at a Nespapwr as a Layout Designer and they changed from Quark to InDesign years ago... so I took that as ahint :D

I'm not sure I need acrobat to add the bookmark but I'll ask. Any othere design request? I hear there's an option to block off the background for friendlier printing, can anybody confirn/deny this?

I'm the opposite, everyone I know has switched to Indesign. I switched back around 2002/2003 when Quark was so stupid as to not make a compatible program with OSX and never looked back.

Is that Welsh for "newspaper?"

Can the clothing for the female illustrations be put on a separate layer?

Send me an email with what you are wanting to do and any questions... I'm sure I can help. :)

As to the above:
You can do it in InDesign.
There is a way to do that too.

Heh. Sorry, I couldn't help it.

Argh. I've got half of my Weal or Woe duo done, but I have a presentation tomorrow that's taking up my time. Hopefully I'll have it done by tomorrow night or Thursday.

Liberty's Edge

First, I would like to thank Liz and all her crew for all the work being done to make Wayfinder 2 a reality. :)

Second, I'm going to pester her with more new-guy questions: Will there be feedback for those who made submissions or does no reply mean that everything is okay and no editing is needed? Will we have to wait for Wayfinder 2 to see if our submissions made the cut or are all submissions accepted?

The last thing I heard was that most everything was to be included, but the guidelines do indicate things may not make it in. That's not much help, I know.

WRT editorial comments, although things might be done a little differently for #2, I can tell you the way this was handled in #1.

The editors who work on Wayfinder are basically volunteering their time. You can request feedback from them via Liz, as she is the only one who will know who edited your work. It is up to the editors to determine if they are willing and able to provide feedback on your submission.

I was fortunate enough to get some feedback by from my editor last time. I was glad to get the critique.

However, Liz may be dealing with a larger and slightly more difficult beast in Wayfinder #2, so she may have different policies/procedures this time.

Thanks. I'm a little new at this. I'm just used to having what I write sent back to me with comments if it needed revision so I could rewrite it myself.

Since we haven't heard from Liz in a while, I bet she and her volunteer staff are way too busy this close to the deadline to give any one-on-one feedback.

I submitted a fiction piece a few minutes ago. Go Wayfinder 2!

In order to avoid any bias, I'm waiting until after the deadline to start sorting out the entries, so I haven't read any of them yet. As I stated in the original post, I am going to be rejecting articles, but I will be telling you why. :)

Liberty's Edge

But, Liz, rejection is so harsh. Feelings could be hurt. People who put their hearts into their work might feel unloved.

Please, Liz, O Beautiful and Most Powerful Lead Cat-Herder of Wayfinder 2, if there is anyone you deem unworthy to contribute to your most exalted and desirable project, I beg of you, let that person down easy.

(Oh, I know that I'm going to get smacked up-side the head with a big ol' trout for this one...) :P

In all seriousness, Liz, we all appreciate the hard work you are putting into this project. Thank you for adressing my new-guy concerns. It isn't every day that someone works as hard as you do for an unpaid labor.

Phew. Finished and submitted. Nothing like grinding it in under the wire. Now to get caught up on my homework... *grumble, grumble*

Liberty's Edge

well, now just to wait and see who will be in or who will not.

*looks at the clock*
Tick tock, gang. Eight and a half hours until submissions close. :)

Scarab Sages

Ha, Ha!

I was wondering what hour you were staying up to; obviously the Witch-Queen of Perrenland needs to be carving pumpkins!

Sent my submission, one Weal or Woe article, set in The Land of The Linnorm Kings, 1496 words, by my Windows app (though I think it's cheating to count 2-digit numbers in a statblock as a word...grumble...

Remembered to spellcheck it in American English, this time, too.

Good luck everyone!

They're to catch all the souls the naughty boys and girls, don't ya know?

Ack. Sadly I have to go to bed now. :(
I have emailed in the revision for Dear Diary 2, and sent in a draft for 'Lady of Winter'. I would have liked to have done more work on the latter, but a deadline is a deadline and there may be something in there of interest/use.
Thank you very much for the time and efforts that you are putting into giving us an opportunity to share things with the community, Lilith and Butterfrog, and to those (such as Sir Wulf and Sir Turin) who have at various points provided me personally with useful points of view amidst various revisions and rewrites of what small attempts I have been making to contribute.

Ooh... the editor-in-chief herself. On the subject of pumpkins, I know someone who travels in a pumpkin coach pulled by flying mermaids.... :)

Edit:
Okay must sleeeeeep for real this time.

I know someone who needs to lay off the cheese before going to bed.

Since I usually have cereal and cocoa before bed, not cheese, it seems to me you must be posting about somebody else... :)

Scarab Sages

Sorry Lillith, the set, costumes and rehearsals are soaking up my time. That on top of making sure my wife doesn't feel like a single mom, I didn't meet the deadline.

Besides, my photographer won't be in for a week and a half. I will at least try and mail you a copy of the script. If you wish to put a scene or two into the Wayfinder, that would be fine. Just not too much.

Sovereign Court

Now begins the terrible task of sorting entries. Good luck Lilith! You'll need it :)

Oh, sorry, I was talking about me.

I'm tripping through a manattee jazz solo, with Monterey Jack.
No relation to our brass-necked associate.

I'll start up the layout if a few weeks, so if you submit the script to Liz and send all picts in a couple+ weeks, it would be fine!

By the way, if anyone gets rejected and you really want to see your content published somewhere, why not try the Pathfinder Database?

Liberty's Edge

or the Pathfinder Chronicler for fiction.

Back off, get you own thread!!!

Now seriously, we should talk about this. In the end, people wants to see their stuff up and share it.

Monty and Veector, please shoot me an email and lets discuss it at hugo(at)butterfrog(dot)com

Hey gang, responses to Wayfinder will be slow going. I have been struck with one of Urgathoa's plagues and will be delayed in finalizing the Wayfinder #2 article list.

I'd shoot some curative magic through the pipe to ya if I had any. Instead, get bundled up, hunt down some Tom Yum Soup (it cures what ails you) and get well soon.

Hmm...better make it a cleric of Pharasma, just in case.
