The last time was a miss for other reasons. Okay, so the attack on Bumpo was a hit.
"Stop. Please. I surrender," says a meak voice emanating from near the baron's bed.
I'm not sure how you guys run this, but I'm not letting detect magic serve the same purpose as the higher level spell see invisibility. Knotty can see the trace of a magical aura at the point where Bumpo was as he became invisible but any magical aura he gives off, including those of anything he's holding, became invisible too when he did. I will allow Knotty this: the aura of Bumpo's potion and whatever the Baron used are different. The Baron's spell was conjuration and Bumpo's was illusion.

Hru will guard the door from outside
"Lord, what kind of battle is this you show me?" Hru says more to himself.
"The Baron will not be receiving guests tonight" Hru chuckles before moving to a position to see down the stairs
provided it's not over 20 ft from the stairs to the Baron's door. I would never let a cantrip see invisiblity myself, A faerie fire cast before he goes invis, a bag of flour or paint or pigment cast into the right square but not D> Magic

"Dindler Magrak, at your service, ma'am. I would happily talk fast about whatever subject you choose, but doing so might kill me," says the invisible indentation leaning against the Baron's four postered bed dripping blood before adding in a cultured Taldoran accent, "You wouldn't happen to have a restorative of some sort on your person, would you?"

"That depends. How much can you tell me before you pass out from blood loss?"

"That depends. How much can you tell me before you pass out from blood loss?"
"Did you ever work as an escort in Oppara? You look awfully familiar," says Dindler/Bumpo before quickly adding, "I could tell you where the Baron has likely gone ... but I'll be wanting that restorative first. Time is of the essence for you as well as I, I believe."

"It sounds to me like our friend Bumpo thinks the Baron is no longer in the room. It seems he is a spellcaster. We need to move quickly."
I asks the guard we have captured, "Where does the Baron spend his time, in the dungeons or in the towers?"
Meanwhile I return Liandra's weapons to her.
Liandra Nightwind
"Thanks Galadar,"Liandra says, sheathing her other weapons as she takes back her khukri.
"Damn teleporting coward! Look if the guards come down on us I'll paint the ceiling with your blood first. I'll give you the potion after you talk, but take too long and you die."
Tarren the Dungeon Master
"Well! I can see that I have clearly rubbed someone the wrong way. The Baron Galdur Vendikon, noble and wizard, is, I'm quite sure, in his laboratory, which, you know as you have, no doubt, spent months preparing for this mission, is in the tower."
Although Dindler is still invisible, he speaks with such dramatic intonation that you can imagine over the top gestures and facial expressions to accentuate each carefully intoned word.
"Now, I believe that I, and only I, can be of some further use to you. I can keep the guards at bay! That, however, will cost you more than a simple potion. I want a guarantee of safe passage to Absalom."
Knotty Ashe
Knotty gives up on his detecting of magicks for now and walks away from Dindler casting at the bedside lamp.
"So this is magical too?" asks the wizard turning back towards the invisible briefly.
Its a load of bull, casting detect thoughts on Dindler Magrak's mind. Knotty wants to know just how honest this one can be. It he planning to run off and grab some guards or does he honour his bargains, or something like that.
Tarren the Dungeon Master
Knotty Round 1:
There are thoughts present in this room.
Knotty Round 2:
Some of those thoughts are coming from Dindler.
Knotty Round 3:
"Of course, there's a place for ME amongst the theater in Absalom. I'm Dindler Magrak. If my fellow thespians knew of my performance here, they'd make a place. Maybe I should ask this lot for a letter of reference as well ... some kind of testimonial to how completely fooled they were ..."
Tarren the Dungeon Master
"Dindler what is the easiest route through the keep to the Baron's? And what magical defences does he employ? constructs? guards? warding spells? Don't think about lying, I can read your mind and your safe passage relies on telling me the truth."
Dindler laughs, "Door at the end of the hall on your left. That's as far as the Baron's ever let me get. I don't think he completely trusts me for some reason. His most trusted man is usually there, along with a handful of his guards."
Tarren the Dungeon Master
Is his mind telling me anything different, I guess not.
"This guard, what does he use to fight with, sword? spells? what? and we should go soon, shouldn't we?" looking at Dindler then Galadar and Liandra.
"Sword, for which he seems to have quite a knack," says Dindler before adding sarcastically. "Yes, please do hurry."
His thoughts tell you he's being honest.
Tarren the Dungeon Master
Knotty grins at Dindler nastily, "you I like."
"Well, I've often found being tied up to be a bonding experience," says Dindler, wincing as the ropes are pulled tight. "Look, I'm sure there's humor in this situation somewhere, but I'm just not seeing it. Have fun with Captain Blacklock. Too-da-loo."

I hear that. Lucklily I'm covering the stairs at this point
Tarren the Dungeon Master
"Anything else in any of the other rooms we should know about?" Eria asks. After encountering one shock that evening she wasn't really in a hurry to encounter any more.
"Dear Lord. Time is passing, the guards are going to be pounding at the door downstairs in a minute, and you lot are asking me questions. Remind me again of why I should help ... gulp ... oh, yes ... put that sharp thing away dear. There's lots to beware of. Lots of men with sharp, pointy things. I doubt you'll make it much further than down the hall and through the door on your left so why bother talking?"
You hear pounding on the door downstairs.
"Right on cue!" says Dindler with a grin. "Let me go and I'll keep them off your backs. Safe passage to Absalom. The deal stands."

Galadar wrote:You can't see the stairs from here. When the DM gets the chance, a map of the rooms we've passed, hallways, etc, would be helpful.
I look back out into the hallway to determine if I can see steps heading up from here.
I should be where I can see the stairs no? I thought I had indicated as much, and I think Manny too.
Knotty Ashe
"I can make people faster, if we have guards to face that may help. Why don't we just keep going and I'll web anything that comes behind? Vendikon is probably even now prepping spells like mad before he takes us on. We shouldn't wait around. Remember the guards know we are here."
I shall prepare myself for the backlash on this jibe.

"Less talk, more moving then," I say with some forcefulness and move out of the door... I try not to even think of the reason why the guards might be on the alert.
"Do we want to try the first door down the hall and on the left?"
I move down the hall and take a look at the first door on the left, moving up next to it to see if I can hear anything through it.

Following Dindler's directions, you head back down the hallway toward the stairs you came up. At the end of the end of the hallway is a closed door on your left. Dindler indicated that this was the way to the stairs to the tower. He also mentioned Captain Blacklock and his men would be on the other side of it.
Knotty Ashe
"Unfortunately not. The hat's magic makes someone look like a standard guard or townsfolk, not a specific individual. Sorry. I was hoping to immobilise the Captain with one of my mind effecting spells. I can make one of you disappear if that helps but I'd say that we just rush them with the advantage of surprise and speed. Manfred and Hru can grow large if needs be."
Knotty shrugs.
