Sneaky |
The just over battle left Sneaky with a new sense of void... somehow similar to what was happening lately inside his brain... when he tried to recall faces, situations, places digging them from his past, most of the times he was just able to find black alleys taking him nowhere... somehow similar to the dark alley in which the monk found him just a week ago... And this battle didn't help him much... not knowing well the other comrades, and their abilities, took the group, in rogue's opinion, to perform a very confused approach to fight... something he was not proud of...
He was thinking to the fact that next time they could be compelled to perform better, when he saw Vark jumping off the vessel. Sneaky then ran toward the balustrade, from where he disapperead, trying to catch where he went...
invisible castle is down so I rolled this myself:
Perception check to individuate Vark in the water: 1d20 + 4 = 15
Warforged Gardener |
Bryson's eyes grow wide as he listens to the sounds coming from the hold. He sprints to the nearest set of stairs leading down so that he can stop this atrocity from continuing. When he arrives, the scene pulls him up short. He knows that he won't be able to 'talk' his way out of this one and readies for action.

Vark has successfully swam about thirty feet from the ship. Annie has tried to reason with him, but the scoundrel is nearing a distant pier and will soon be out of sight.

I'll have a map posted by midday tomorrow and roll initiative. Once you have the layout of the lower deck, you'll be able to post in fluid initiative order every round. For those preparing for combat, the stairs on the eastern side of the map lead to a collection of small compartments with a closed door that opens on the cargo hold you see through the grate. There is also a black square on the deck that is an open hatch leading directly into the cargo hold via a ladder.

Has the pirate that surrendered handed me her quarrel? Or will I have to fight her?
I rolled on random.org's integer generator, but there's no ability to link to rolls: I rolled a 19+2=21 initiative
Spinnaker Jon |
Spinnaker Jon, carefully lining up the monster through the cargo grate, shoots a Lightning Ray.
Ranged touch.

She fully surrendered and disarmed herself, turning over her rapier and light crossbow.
Invisible Castle seems to go down a lot. Anyone know if this is unusual for them?
Bryson Deepwinter |
Bryson lunges forward to strike the monstrous arachnid... and fumbles. His weapon gets caught between the bars of a cage and it is wrenched from his grip. Now he is standing before it unarmed. "I am so dead."
Atk: 1d20+2=3, Dmg: 1d6+2=4
So ,Warforged Gardner, about those classes from Tome of Secrets...
Spinnaker Jon |
Spinnaker Jon shouts "Keep it up me lads an' lassies, keep it up! We've got 'im on the run now!" His fingers crackle with energy as he fires through the grate again.
Lightning Ray ranged touch attack; Damage: (1d20+4=6, 1d6=2)
A bucket of water topples over with no visible reason, the splash intercepting the lightning ray and discharging it harmlessly.
"Nope," Jon thinks to himself, "Me luck is running true. We're all gonna die."
Ghirrak Ironfist |
Ghirrak approaches the bars, a quick punch snapping out to strike the creature as it prepares to strike.

Vark has successfully swam about thirty feet from the ship. Annie has tried to reason with him, but the scoundrel is nearing a distant pier and will soon be out of sight.
The rogue peeked at Vark near the pier and he damned himself to have left his crossbow and his backpack to Annie before the swim. Then he approached her and gently asked for his tools trying to undestand if they were still on the gondola or, less probably, she took them on the vessel.
For this reason, he could be unable to really help his mates who seemed near to another fight on the deck. Undoubtedly this was another reason to be more careful for the rogue next time.
Gull Street Annie |
Annie looked over at the nondescript and quiet spoken human man called Sneaky at his request. "Of course I brought them with me - would do you little enough good on the gondola!" She slipped his bag off her shoulder and trained her crossbow on the retreating Vark, but bit her lip.
Fighting to protect herself and others from harm was one thing. Striking a man who no longer threatened her with a crossbow was...just plain murder. She shook her head and ran back toward her companions. If he had the ring Livinia wanted, she would simply have to track it down later. If they could get the surrendering henchman to talk, they could at least discredit Vark with the Harbormaster and the law would be firmly on their side to regain Lavinia's missing property from Vark.
She skidded to a halt behind the dwarf and brought up the pirate's crossbow, aiming it at the creature - but Ghirrak was fighting the thing and she didn't want to inadvertently hit him. This would be a difficult shot - fortunately, the crossbow wasn't a complicated weapon. She squeezed off a shot and began the process of setting another bolt in the weapon.
Round 1: go back toward fight with the spider creature
Round 2: Shoot crossbow into melee: 1d20-2=18, 1d8=7, confirm critical: 1d20-2=2 (unconfirmed) and reload.
Warforged Gardener |
The rhagodessa scurried up a block of cages and turned its eyes toward the nearest living prey--Bryson--and lunged.
The spider-creature's pedipalps attached effortlessly to the druid's neck and jerked him closer, allowing the creature's powerful jaws to crunch him.
By my count, the rhagodessa has taken 18 damage so far and we are in the second round of combat(starting with the first hostile action toward the rhagodessa, which was Spinnaker Jon's successful but impotent lightning bolt.
Dgrim Urnidukr |
Spinnaker Jon |
Grimly, Spinnaker Jon shifts position for a better angle and takes another shot.
Ranged touch attack, Electric ray damage: (1d20+4=8, 1d6=3)
"Aaargh!" He screams in frustration. "Not now, ye blockhead of a god, not now!"
Bryson Deepwinter |
[I'm at 0 hp and grappled so the weapon is probably out of my hands in anyway.]
Even though cure light wounds might be a better choice, I'll try to break the grapple 1d20+2=20. I lose 1 hp and begin to die, which I'll do anyway if I don't break this grapple.
Gull Street Annie |
"Bryson!" Annie cried out in horror as she saw the half elf throw off the frightening creature, then crumple to the ground. Annie forgot about the expended crossbow and sent out a wave of healing energy gifted to her from Cayden Cailean instead. She grimaced as she excluded the creature from her god's care.
Channeling Positive Energy: 1d6=6
Ghirrak Ironfist |
Attempting to hammer the creature into releasing Bryson, Ghirrak attacks, his punches rendered ineffective in his attempt to avoid harming the injured druid.

You are successfully out of the grapple(and really greasy if Jon's action holds).
Spinnaker Jon |
That was my next action in order, once I see Bryson in trouble.
Hmmmm...
Spinnaker Jon shouts to Ghirrak; "I'm gonna Grease ya up next lad! Mebbe that'll keep ya outta it' grip!"
And I'll do that unless Ghirrak tells me not to.

Bryson scrambles to put some distance between him and the rhagodessa. He'll 5' step then move or just double move to try and keep from provoking an AoO. If that's not possible, he'll use Icicle. Let me know if I need to roll the concentration check and attack roll.
"GREEN LEAVES, GNOME! WHAT IS THAT HORRID THING? It's banshee's wail and abyssal stench woke me from the dead."

You'll be first up after the rhagodessa acts, but you may want to rethink your action. If you went below 0 hp after escaping the grapple, you would have gone prone adjacent to the rhagodessa. Any attempt to stand or crawl away is going to provoke an AoO. If you want to attempt an icicle with a concentration check to use the ability defensively, that's probably your safest bet.
Bryson Deepwinter |
Ok, I'll go with the Icicle. Cast Defensively 1d20+4=24

Dgrim Urnidukr wrote:What's the rhagodessa doing before Jon greases it?We're in fluid initiative, so the rhagodessa hasn't acted yet this round. Once Sneaky has posted, it will act again. (Also, it wasn't greased...the target was Bryson)
Sneaky goes near the rhagodessa and he tries to hit her and help his comrades possibly catching monster attention away from Bryson... with his sneak attack, if she can be flanked,
to hit 1d20+4 = 24 !!! to deal damage 1d6+2 = 5 ; sneak attack: 1d6 = 5 --> roll
crit confirmation 1d20+4 = 18 --> roll2

(sorry for my late posting but I'm away for work until this evening)

Everyone's so worried about me. I'm touched. Just not by the rhagodassa hopefully
The stealthy rogue carefully slips into place and fells the foul beast with a single well-placed knife to its underside. The rhagodessa squeals and collapses, leaving Dgrim and Bryson without a target.
We are out of initiative with actions to spare. The ship is yours, ladies and gentlemen. Huzzah!
Spinnaker Jon |
After leaning shakily against the mainmast for a minute, Spinnaker Jon says "Ar, that be a close one mates."
He gets up, brushes himself off and helps secure the prisoners with handy rope as best he can.
"Even though we need the rest badly, we need to search out Lavinias ring before Vark comes back with the Harbor Patrol and claims we pirated 'is ship from him."
He looks uneasily down into the shadowy depths of the hold as he warily descends the ladder, dancing lights circling him nervously. "An' we ought to beware there ain't more of them things down there too."
Warforged Gardener |
What else is in this area besides the corpses of torch-man, the rhagodessa, and the monkey?
The hold is filled with numerous other cages, most still occupied by terrified animals of varying size, a few broken open and filled with blood and gristle. The animals are mostly exotic--shocker lizards, rare macaws, the aforementioned monkey. There is also a door leading to another section of the deck(in addition to the door from the galley, which some of you entered through, and the ladder to the main deck).
Dgrim Urnidukr |
The dwarf wrinkles his face as he takes in the sight before him. "...a smuggle operation, perhaps. No wonder Lady Lavinia couldn't get her ship back. It was needed for this. We alert the Watch as soon as we leave the ship, and the harbormaster if he's still here at this hour," Dgrim commands.
Dgrim unshoulders his pack and opens it up. "Here you go, seaman," he says, pulling out a crossbow. "I think this is yours. Now, lets see if we can't find that ring on board."
If someone else makes a check to search the ship for the ring, Dgrim will attempt to aid that check.
Bryson Deepwinter |
First I'll cast CLW on myself to take some of the edge off. 1d8+1=3
If anyone else is injured, I'll use my second one on them, otherwise I won't cast it.
Then, I'll help to search the ship. Perception check 1d20+14=33
Once the ring is found, I'll stay on the ship to see to the animals. When the guard arrives, I will grill them to make sure that they will treat the animals well.
Warforged Gardener |
Annie led the surrendered pirate belowdecks so they could keep an eye on her.
Is there a room or place she can put the pirate while they search the ship?
The unopened door leads to crew quarters and the rooms beyond that function as an access to the bilge. The hatch to the bilge could be easily blocked with a heavy enough item. Short of that, someone with rope could tie her up.
Ghirrak Ironfist |
"You all realize we will have to deal with their bastard of a boss sooner or later. He's probably heeaded to round up a new batch of thugs as we speak."
Gull Street Annie |
"Thank you," Annie smiled at Bindlplotz, "And thank you for the reminder to check for poison! I'll take a look." As Annie moved toward Byrson she could be heard muttering, "Given the way old Sammy cooks, I've dealt with a poisoned stomach or two in my day. This spider thing though...." She shivered as she walked up to Bryson. "How are you feeling?" she said as she held out a hand. "That creature was frightening!"
Heal check to find any status effect on Bryson: 1d20 + 7=27
Bryson Deepwinter |
At Annie's attention, Bryson beams. "Ahm feeling right well. Ah mean, sure ah got some bruisin' but ah done had worse afore. There was this one time after ah tried to calm a momma bear... woo! It was near a week afore ah could move again. How you doing? Ah saw you tusslin' with that pirate. Good work. You okay?"
I'm at 8 of 14 hit points. WF Gardener did not tell me I was poisoned, so I assume I'm not.
