Whitechin?!

Council of Thieves

Spoiler:
So who has done anything with trying to create their own set peice and actually created a side adventure to take on the king of the sewers, whitechin!

I'd be interested to hear what other groups did with whitechin (since there islittleto no information given to the DM)

In our group, We only had three characters playing:
My wife (a barbarian sorceress) Myself (a Dwarven wizard/druid) and a female elf Ranger.

Spoiler:
In the sewers we tracked goblins (our ranger is set up to fight/track evil outsiders and has an urban favored terrain so it wasnt easy) and eventually ran into player number 4 ( a NE halfling fighter) disguised as a goblin, our barbarian was very hard to convince he wasnt a goblin and tried to kill him (the fighter had 0 ranks in disguise)

Anyway after assmebling the party, the halfling, dwarf, half elf and elf discovered a high amount of traffic in the sewer ( a really good track roll) and duly the location of the goblin kings lair. (oringinally the ranger incorrect identified the tracks as were rats at which point we were ready to leave the sewers, but then she realized she rolled ad12 instead of a d20! ha!)

After fighting some goblins, goblin dogs, and a goblin adept, we made our way into the goblin kings throne room, Well a room anyway, with a bunch of garbage in it.

Anyway the Gobling king ended up being a Hobgoblin druid,my wife (the barbarian) nearly freaked out at the description of a six foot tall goblin and was planning a full scale retreat untilwecould figure out what was going on! (she's kind new to RPGing and we've always had tofight orcs, never had a hobgoblin before, at least with her around)

So anyway our whitechin was a hobgoblin druid with a dire rat familiar a pipe of the sewers and a +1 flamming scythe.

The barbarian went staright for the goblin king, leaving the rest of us to fight his "court".

6 goblins, 2 goblin rogues, 2 hobgoblin body guards, 2 goblin dogs and a goblin sorceror.
Sheesh!

the halfling was surrounded by a goblin on nearly every side, except the two front spaces taken up by goblin dogs.

The ranger (dill weed) fought with a spear and buckler and did alot ofmissing (she didnt want to provoke AoO's so she didnt use her bow (should have just kept moving). she did a LOAD of missing.

The dang goblin king used obscuring mist to evade the barbarian and the pipes to call a swarm of rats!

We NEVER used swarms before! ever! in 25 years of gaming,Ive never had to deal with a SWARM......nasty!

They do auto damage if they are in your square apparently? sheeesh!

Can you all imagine a dwarfwizard trying to fight off a rat swarm with a war hammer?

Obviously it didnt go well. I got taken down by the swarm, then the elf, suffered the same fate.

The halfling seeing the mighty swarm and realizing his impressive armor class wasnt going to do him any good. Risked moving past two hobgoblin warriors to take on the goblin sorceror (the onlyone doing him any damage, first with burning hands and then when he ran out, acid orb!...1 damage, 1 damage, 1 damage! hahahaah)
Unfortunately the hobgoblins got REALLY lucky with AoO and dropped him too!

ALL this time, we had a barbarian hunting around in the mist for a hobgoblin druid.

Well, just as the halfling drops, the barbarian wanders into the druid (she was using perception to follow the sounds of the pipes)
Hobgoblin shreiks when the 6'4" half-elf barbarian woman wanders out of the mist at him carrying a masterwork greatax (my dwarf made for her) she rolled a 20 on intimidate! it was sweet!

Hobgoblin drops the pipes, and trys to take a swing at her, with the flamming scythe and misses. Barb lands a crit on him and he starts running. (dire rat is chewing on her but she's ignoring theminor damage and shrugging off the disease with her fort saves like she is immune or something.)

Druid hides behind hobgoblin flunkies who drop to the axe in one round (halfling had worn them down some)

Barbarian finally gets bored of beingbitten by dire rat and takes a few rounds to killit while she getsplummed by the druids produce flame.

Meanwhile we are alleating chips and discussing what characters we are going to make next because it's looking like a TPK.

Then the barb decides she wants to rage!

Party over, left over goblins decided to run from the barbarian with the high dex and combat reflexes and she mowed them down like a weed whacker. Goblin king sees that and decides to run, hah not from a barbarian with fast move.
He runs, she gives chase throwing javelins along the way, he's out of produce flame and trying to drink potions.

Two rounds she easily catches him and literally cuts his head off (thanks to our ciritcal hit deck)

I'm at -5 hp, the ranger is -7 and the halfling (lucky dog) is sitting pretty at 0hp.

The barbarian, with no ranks in heal and a 10 wisdom heals us up and/or stabilizes us while she is fatigued!

REally, really impressive I must say.

I havent played a barbarian character since they first came out in unearthed arcanna and could use magic items.

But let me tell you, im really impressed with this character class, I think every party needs one.

So what did everyone else do with whitechin?

Sounds pretty cool. Quite the knuckle-biter encounter that could really have gone south quick. That sounds like it was a lot of fun.

I posted stats for my Whitechin over on this thread. Basically, he's a barbarian 3 and has a cleric 1 consort to go with him. The party will be hitting him while at 2nd level, so I'll give them about a dozen goblin warriors as minions. I haven't yet developed the physicality of the encounter's surroundings, but it'll be amongst some ruins in the Old City.
