Somehow I doubt it. It was some high school kid that I had been earlier admiring as he tossed a football with his buddies. And then he called me Ma'am. :\

I suppose I should be impressed that the boy had some manners. So few do.

Hey, does anyone remember a South Park character who kept ending his sentences with "What?" or "Huh?"
Things like, "That's just right over here. What?" and so on. We're racking our brains trying to remember what episode that was from.
was it Towelie?

Lord knows there are plenty of them as well. I suppose I am just a bit defensive over the whole thing. You attack me over being Christian and fanatically push your beliefs on me, and then celebrate a Christian holiday. :\

I know I have yet to break that habit. It's funny because I'm now using ma'am and sir for people younger than me.

I agree with this. I think it's possible to celebrate the "peace on Earth, goodwill towards men" idea, and ignore the birth of Jesus as the reason for Christmas.
My tolerance will condemn me to Hell, most likely, but I'm sure I'll see some of you folks there. :)

Of course, the counter argument is that Christians appropriated a pagan holiday to "convert" said pagans. :)

No, I could never mistake Towelie. It's was some minor one-off character.

I'm a little defensive to people who push their beliefs on me but then tell me their holiday (and the one I've grown up celebrating) is off limits. I guess we've all had our bad experiences, and I try not paint with too broad a brush.

I suppose I get weird about it B/C I don't push my religion on people I tend to keep to myself, and I am one of two Christians at work and I have had some bad experiences where I sit there minding my own and then they decide to poke fun at my beliefs, and then ask anout a secret santa for the co workers.
CH You have never blasted me for my beliefs, and as far as I know, never blasted anyone. What bugs me are those that are rude and mean and cruel and then go on to celebrate, something that to me, has always been a very special and religious time for me.

Even though I am not Jewish, I want to celebrate Hanukkah. I want 8 days of presents. Should our friends that are Jewish not be offended by us?

It is not off limits. Santa Claus is very secular.
I never try to “push” my beliefs on anyone.
And yet I get where you are coming from. I was in Wal-Mart, just last night and heard a lady talking about how she volunteers with middle school students, the organization helps with home work and tutors. She was just giddy about the help she was doing. Oh and the entire point of the group. When you get a chance talk to them about G~D and help them convert. I wanted to slap her.
Deeds not words, I don’t think people get that anymore.
I honestly get why people hate organized religion in this country. The people running it all seem to be hypocrites, and they don’t even get the point of practice what you preach.

Ok guys. I don't mean to start something and run. And I surely don't want bad feelings between my friends(sometimes the only friends I have that give a crap) and I.
But Hubby is up and moving around and we need to get to cleaning up and go get my pay and go food shopping. I will be back later.
*Hugs* All around. And please forgive me if I have offended you. I hope by now that most of you know that I don;t wish to offend anyone and that I am a typically passive person. :\

I wouldn't think so, since Hanukkah is a minor Jewish holiday. :)
I think I understand what you are trying to say. People will get offended, and I don't presume to decide they shouldn't get offended. I'm only speaking for myself, but if someone who is not Christian chooses to celebrate the holiday and at least makes some effort to reflect on improving things in the world, then I'm happy. Now, if someone tries to tell me that I'm celebrating the "wrong" thing, I will be perturbed.

I can't speak for anyone else, but I'm not offended. I can understand your frustration at being mocked for your beliefs, then immediately told about a "secret Santa". Don't allow yourself to paint with a broad brush what you see in a couple of idiots. :)

Yes well as they say it only takes a few bad apples to spoil the bunch.
mmmm I am staying away from the religous thread and here I am talking it on another.
