I know. We really need some insect repellent in here.

That reminds me, how many pages would this thing have before we have to move for another one?

The last one went a little over 500 pages before Gary killed it.

Just cause they are atheists doesn't mean they don't believe in PRESENTS! lol
And then complain and point out how commercialized Christmas is. >:(
I would rather a hypocritical atheist then hypocritical Christian.
Lord knows there are plenty of them as well. I suppose I am just a bit defensive over the whole thing. You attack me over being Christian and fanatically push your beliefs on me, and then celebrate a Christian holiday. :\
I'm a little defensive to people who push their beliefs on me but then tell me their holiday (and the one I've grown up celebrating) is off limits. I guess we've all had our bad experiences, and I try not paint with too broad a brush.

I suppose I get weird about it B/C I don't push my religion on people I tend to keep to myself, and I am one of two Christians at work and I have had some bad experiences where I sit there minding my own and then they decide to poke fun at my beliefs, and then ask anout a secret santa for the co workers.

CH You have never blasted me for my beliefs, and as far as I know, never blasted anyone. What bugs me are those that are rude and mean and cruel and then go on to celebrate, something that to me, has always been a very special and religious time for me.

I know what you mean, I've been a little defensive myself. I always make a point to respect others' beliefs, as long as they're not being used to put anybody down, but I know there are some vocal people on these boards who would rather ridicule others' beliefs. I guess I get defensive if I feel like I'm being painted with the same brush as them. I feel bad that I singled you out though, because I know that's now what you were trying to do.

For my personal beliefs, I think all religions have something to teach, and find value in both the sacred and secular aspects of Christmas (except for the consumerist free-for-all, which I could live without).

We have been able to stay civil thus far on this thread, I shouldn't have brought such things to our happy home.

I do try to practice what I preach and I would never push my beliefs on anyone, nor ridicule them for theirs. I state mine, and trust that people will be civilized enough to not put me down. As I would never them.
CH, its all good. I can see where you would get defensive. My post was very broad and rather rude.I apologize. :)

I always think of this as the place where we can be friendly and talk about whatever, regardless of what goes down in another thread. That's one of the things I love about this place.

Spoilered for sappiness:
I will say that this thread is one of the main reasons I stuck around the Paizo messageboards at the beginning of the year. I used to post a lot during RPG Superstar and then sporadically check back after Superstar concluded. You all are a great bunch of folks and, even though we definitely have differences in opinion, this is a place to vent, laugh, and share without worrying about someone trying to "win" an argument. I appreciate you all.

Even Sharoth. :)

A. I'll hope for the best on your scores!

B. Every time the issue comes up, we hope it won't go down in flames, but it always does. Every time. So I don't know why we're always surprised...

But not particularly helpful in a serious discussion in which you deludedly attempt to remain civil while you really just wish the other person's head would explode.

There needs to be a Feat so a PC can 1) refuse to concede any verbal ground while expecting their opponent to give in, 2) argue in circles, 3) ask for all counterpoints to be cited or "proven", and then 4) act surprised when their opponent decides to take the PC's head off in frustration.

The problem is that there are a few all or nothing individuals on both sides who jump in and ruin it for those of us who are interested in finding answers and common ground. I would name names but that would not be nice, nor appropriate here.

However, if you want to conntact me on Facebook, I'll give you a list.

The feat can only be taken by gish PCs. :)

BTW, my one-shot last night was good. I'm glad, because the guy who DM'd it is the one who is going to be starting up a game in the new year. It was a good test run :)

We were playing pre-gen evil characters, and it was a hoot to be taking that angle. I was playing two, a snobby male deva invoker (4e), and a female shadar-kai artificer. I had trouble coming up with a personality for the artificer, but it all came together when we were in a sketchy tavern, and somehow the topic of the tavern's prostitutes came up. (Spoilered for NSFW)

Spoiler:
One of the other characters made a bawdy comment to the proprietor about how she (the artificer) gave great "HJ"s, to which she replied, "Oh yes, maybe later we can go upstairs and maybe I'll give you an "HJ" with a glaive." I have a feeling that the "HJ with a glaive" joke is going to be around for a long time to come.
