Over the next two weeks my posting may be a little slow. Sorry but there is alot going on at home and the result so far is I am getting little free time when I have any energy to post.

That should finish with the end of October.

heya, my computer died horribly. I'm posting this from work but I can't use work computers for big posts or updates. I thought it was a simple issue at first, but it's not. Something went through and burnt out the modem and motherboard. Nice.

Will hopefully be up and running for updates again on weekend.

FW, Lazarus will shoot the nearest rider if possible. He'll also call for Waynir to stop the trap so we can regroup. This will probably end his singing and means the support of my song ends this round. Really sorry for slowing people up.

Cheers

Just so everyone knows, I am running three days of games at my house starting tomorrow, so my ability to post will be pretty cut down. Then its a weeks holiday doing DIY and the like but that shouldn't slow me down too much.

After that things should return to some normality and we can kick start the campaign. I'm sorry for not posting more often in the last couple of weeks but I hope everyone understands.

Cheers

Lochaude is meant to a fun game and I'm afraid that that doesn't seem to be the case at the moment. It is dying on its feet and I rather find a solution even if that means we abandon this game.

Looking at the way posting has fallen off, there are one or two problems. First I had a few weeks of spotty posting thanks to illness, a holiday and my bi-annual homecon (with its preparation). Second since the beginning this hasn't been a very busy game and that lack of energy hasn't really improved. I'm afraid that that is down to players posting and enthusiasm as much as mine. Pbps need people that want to post.

So let me know what you think? Do you want this game to continue? Would you post more often in the future?

Here are the main choices, feel free to throw in any more you can come up with;

1) Stop the game.
2) Stop the game and if someone wants to they can join in my Legacy of Fire game instead. There is room for two or three to swop over.
3) Do not stop the game but recruit players from the Forum.
4) Continue as is but everyone starts posting more often, say at least 3 times a week, preferably more.

Obviously if someone wants out then this would be their chance. I'd rather not do this very often.

Cheers

Tough choice there FW. I like Lazzarus, and since he's my first bard I wouldn't mind keeping him around. However I agree that it's hard to keep enthusiams up when so few posts pop up in a week.

I think part of the problem is we keep waiting for everyone to have a say before adding more (at least I certainly hold back to give others a chance). That makes it tough if people can only post once a week.

I'd like to see this go ahead, but only if people are willing to commit to at least a few posts a week. That helps (me at least) to keep my perspective on the game and stay in character. Otheriwse the plot loses its thread for me sorry to say

If we can't get that commitment then I leave the decision in your hands FW. Either way I'll back your play. You've woven a good story so far.

Cheers

I'm sorry and I know I've been a major problem. All the breaks got me out of sorts and my thought process on how to do this character got all muddled.

I will post more often.

The Exchange

I have spoken to the guys in the Legacy of Fire game and they would be more than happy for a couple of new players.

This is what I pretty much expected. Their group lost a player in the first week and recently another had his computer die, but that game has people who post daily and because of that it is far more enjoyable for all concerned.

Look forward to hearing from Robert, Mark and Mothman.

Cheers

Hi FW

It's a hard decision to call, on the one hand there has been a total lack of posting from some of the group, myself included (but waiting for others to post before your turn, the biggest issue). Which brings me to think that the commitment isn't there and if it isn't there why should you spend your time running it.

We all buck our ideas up and start posting regularly in Init Order, so give it a few more weeks and if it doesn't happen call it a day then or recruit some more players.I would still like to play Waynir as he hasn't done anything yet so would like to see his character grow/expand.

Those that want to defect/join the Legacy Of Fire Game do so and you close this one.(I would like to join if you choose to shut this one down)

So to sum up I would prefer to continue, but can see your frustration at the group at the moment. I would like to see the views from the people that have not posted here yet and hope you would too before you make a final decision.

Heya FW. if this game does go under I will probably not be able to take up the offer of the other game. I'm already in Zoomackulus campaign for that particular AP and don't want to doulbe up on it.

I appreciate the offer though.

Still hoping we can get this one back on track. The intrigue and politcal machinations were already great and we'd only just started.

Cheers

I realize I'm one of the last to post here in the discussion thread. Typically I check the threads almost every day, it's just a matter of posting. I have a habit of after having posted that I wait to give others a chance to say something. One of the hardest things to do in a play by post is to not step on the other player's toes and run rampant across the campaign. I CAN be more active in posting, Combat is just one of those tricky places where initiative can become a hindrance rather than the help it is at the table.

I'd like to see the game continue hopefully with our posting pace increasing. I would love to join your Legacy of Fire if needed, unfortunately I'm running it for my local group /insert sad face.

French Wolf:
Do you plan on sending your party through the first AP set piece? I totally infected my rogue with... you know.

The Exchange

I'd like to give Mothman until tomorrow to resolve this, meanwhile if people want the game to continue I suggest that they start posting on it.

But it does look like the majority want us to keep going.

I will have more on this tomorrow.

Cheers

The Exchange

Thanks for posting folks. That is more like it.

Rather than dwell on the past, let's go for it from now on. We have about four weeks until Christmas takes over for a time. Between now and then I think we should add one or two players to bump up the numbers of players and give everyone more opportunities to roleplay.

Wrath - if you know of anyone interested let me know. I'll bang the drum in my games, please do the same in yours.

There are two points I'd like to highlight from everyone's comments and they hark back to my original posts on the etiquette of pbp's.

1) I expect is that you all post at least three times a week, preferably more. my only comment on posting is this, if you are confused, uncertain or have questions then the worst thing you can do is NOT post.
Have a go and ask away, don't be afraid of making mistakes, because often everyone else will be in the same boat.

2) If there is a reason for a delay then let us know. It is unfair on the other players to leave us hanging around waiting.

Cheers

FW. I'd be somewhat interested in this Game. I already have a fair few PbPs I am in at the moment, but only half a dozen of them are proceeding with any kind of frequency. My posting can get a little spotty though which would be a big reason for you to say no and which I fully understand. Some days I can get on and post with impunity but others it might be 3 days before I can check the Boards again.

One question I will ask now to get it out of the way:

French Wolf:
What are your thoughts about using the Oracle Playtest Class? I have been reading over it and I am very intrigued. I am a huge fan of the Sorcerer Bloodlines and the Oracle to me is it's perfect counterpart from a Divine angle. I am very much looking forward to playing one.
Just let me know what you think.

If you can promise to post a minimum of three times a week then I'd love you to be in. That is what I have said to the other players so to be fair that is the deal with both of the new players. As to your idea for a PC, I think that would fit the party well.

Vague Background Information

Spoiler:
The two players joining the game do not necessarily need to come from this region. In fact they will be arriving in game via Ravenloft, the Land of Mists, so can come from any of the known or unknown worlds. For that reason your PC can be first or second level. Your PC could be a sort of gypsy, a Vistani, from Ravenloft itself. Since they have Seers and Fortunetellers travelling about.

The other players have built their PC's in secret. This is a deliberate ploy on my part to heighten the fact that they don't know much about each other.

So whether or not you decide that you have both travelled together for a long time, I'd like you both to do the same. Spoiler everything please. I'll help along the way so if you need any questions answered, just ask.

Cheers and welcome to the game.

FW (and all), my apologies, I've been away from the site for most of the last week (crazy busy at work, real life dramas and suckage, and computer problems at home) and have only just seen this development. Catching up. Let me digest and try to respond.

Liberty's Edge

Male Mothman Expert 5

Yes, this game has been slow, and I have to put my hand up as being at least partly to blame for that (as evidenced by me being the last one to respond here to this). I think there’s been a perceived lack of enthusiasm / commitment, and while that might not actually be the case, (everyone no doubt has good reasons for not posting as often as they would like), everybody is sort of feeding off that.

For my part I have no good excuse except that real life has continued to be pretty much as busy for me as when we first started character creation (I had reason to expect that things would calm down and give me more time – for the most part they have not) and that a few breaks, stop-starts and such sort of broke the momentum for me.

Having said all of that, I was (and still am) really enthusiastic about the concept for this game and having French Wolf DM. I want to keep going if everybody else does and, things like what has been going on for me for the past week or so aside, I should be able to keep up a regular posting rate. Experience tells me, that when I’m in a game that tends to be healthy and going along at a clipping rate, those will be the first games I check and post to every day. If a game seems slow paced or there’s a perception that players are unenthused, I’ll tend to check those games last … and if I’m busy, and I don’t get a chance to post to everything, those are the games that miss out.

So I can’t promise that real life will allow me to post as much as I’d like right now, but to see that most everyone else seems to still be enthusiastic about this game has re-kindled my own enthusiasm. Posting at least thrice a week should not be a problem.

French Wolf:
I will probably be either an Oracle of Flame or an Oracle of Wind as these are my two favourites. I also like Oracle of Bone, but I don't think that will really fit the Campaign.

What kind of time frame are we looking at to have Characters done by?

Also, is it possible for you to summarise Character Creation rules in a Post for us so we don't have to sift through a bunch of Posts to find what we need?
Level.
Stat Generation.
Starting Gold.
Hit Points.
Traits or not?

I think these are the main Points I like to cover when creating a Character.

I'll try to find some time later today to sort out the character info you want. However I am teaching later today and then out to the pub all evening for a game of Warhammer.

As for your thoughts on the character class, I agree 100%, spooky really that we are in such accord.

There is no time frame but the sooner the better. That is the advantage of the way that you guys will join in.

No Problems, whenever you're ready.

I probably won't get to even look at it until the weekend anyway as I have to create a new 3.5 Character for my Pen & paper game on Friday night.

Character Generation

Dice rolling is by the honour system. I always start out trusting my players and I will soon know if someone is taking advantage of that. Somehow I don't think that is going to be a problem in this game. The honour system means you roll dice at your end and I believe what you say. You can use the Paizo dice roller if you wish. As far as the web rollers like Invisible Castle are concerned, I tend to only use that now for increased hit points when I level up a PC.

So on page 15 of Pathfinder, there are the different methods of generating stats. You guys are going to use the dice pool method. Remember to assign all your dice to each stat before any rolling takes place.

Hit points are maximum for first level and then roll for the rest (re-roll 1's).

Starting gold is dependent on which level you choose. There is a bit of horse-trading involved because the most important thing is the background you come up with. I'll help with equipment once I know more.

No traits.

Sorry I haven't been active here yet folks. Started a new job and had to move past week so, haven't had as much time. Also don't have Net yet where I am right now. Things starting to settle down though so will have a PC up in the next day or two. If this will put me too far behind or anything, please feel free to recruit another Player as I don't want to hold up the game.

I don't think there's too much pressure. I have only just started to create my PC as well.

French Wolf:
One question I have for you: What races are allowable? I was considering playing a young (16 yo) Tiefling Oracle of Flame who is from Ustalav (in Golarion). She "came of age" and her Tiefling characteristics exhibited on her 16th birthday. She was then captured and put in prison, to be put to death for her witchery and demonic cavortings. (She is actually Chaotic Good though, so no dealings of the naughty kind for her...). If you do allow this I was thinking of taking a Tiefling Variant Heritage (and Darkness replacing Ability) from Council of Thieves #1, Bastards of Erebus. I would of course use my 1st Level Feat to take Fiendish Heritage to allow this, I wouldn't just expect you to give it to me.
What do you think?

The Exchange

Khaladon, this isn't time dependent so when you have a character jump in, moving can be a pain. Obviously the sooner the better but Flash-cxxi and you can come in whenever.

French Wolf:
Tieflings get to use Darkness 1/day. There is an article in Bastards of Erebus that details different Tiefling Heritages (basically giving different base stats for them) and also replacement abilities for their Darkness. They have done this by giving Tieflings a Feat called Fiendish Heritage that must be taken at 1st Level.

I have chosen to start at 1st Level. She will be fresh into her life as an adventurer (being only 16).

First level is fine. But the tiefling stuff seems a touch powerful to me. Looking at the concept I love it and I much prefer to let players play what ever they want especially in a homebrew pbp.
But there doesn't appear to be a downside. Just lots of good benefits. Rather than make your PC's life tough with every villager and townsperson which is the only solution I can see, can you come up with a good flaw or minor penalty that can offset the obvious advantages of darkvision, darkness, various resistances, etc? I don't mean something as troublesome as a level adjustment.

French Wolf:
I'm not sure to be honest. As far as the Bestiary is concerned they are the same base CR as any of the PC races (Human, Elf, Dwarf, etc...) so I'm not sure what kind of penalty to give them.

I was going to trade in the Darkness ability for one of the Variant Abilities from Bastards of Erebus via the Fiendish Heritage Feat. The Ability I was thinking of was #7: You can eat and gain nourishment from ash, cinders, dust and sand (except I was going to leave out the dust and sand and just say Ash and Cinders as this would tie into her Oracle of Flame status).
She doesn't get any benefir from the Fiendish Sorcery Ability, so all she has then would be Darkvision, the Resistances, the Ash/Cinders eating and a few Skill Bonuses (Bluff and Stealth, neither of which is a Class Skill anyway). I am already losing my 1st Level Feat to trade Ability Bonuses (which can sort of be construed as a Bonus) but I don't think that the Ash/Cinders eating is equal to the Darkness Ability, so it sort of evens out in that respect.
I suppose realistically you as GM can impose whatever Penalty you think is appropriate to her?

From Ustalav, your PC was snatched during a snow storm and ended up in the clutches of a zombie called Lord Samede. She was hung up with no food or drink and forced to watch as he sacrificed victims caught during the Hunt. One by one the others around you manacled to the walls of the mausoleum were set free in his "garden of stones". Each was captured and then slain before her eyes.
When it came to her turn for the Hunt, the Lord with his festering grey teeth and green lit eyes laughed at her spirit, giving her the riddle, "find your funeral to find your escape."
Outside the tomb was a foggy, dark graveyard, the mists and stunted trees covered many hundreds of dotted gravestones. Some open with spades and some closed with names written in blood. Luckily she found the grave marked with her name and guessed that the solution was to bury herself. As the zombie hunters shambled in close, she started digging and digging feverishly until she fell through an earthen floor in just her woollen shift.

Ok, week was busier than I thought it would be but I finally have time to make my character right now.

French Wolf and Flash

Spoiler:

FW, can you give us any ideas on how are two PC's are to be introduced? This may help us decide if, and how is so, our characters may know each other.

Since the party's lacking one, even though I'm playing a few in various PbP's right now, I'm thinking I'll make another rogue. But if the Bard is covering that angle sufficiently, maybe I'll go with something else, like, hmmm, maybe a Warlock? I've never played one of those, should be interesting, and might even better explain a 'relationship' with a Tiefling. Although I have no access at present to any of Pathfinder's ruleset for Warlock's. Are they much different than the 3.5 version?

Scarab Sages RPG Superstar 2009 Top 32

Khaladon & French Wolf:
Pathfinder at present has no "Official" Rules for a Warlock (and I am not sure that they will do one to be honest). Adamant Press has done a PFRPG Warlock in their Tome of Secrets. Their Warlock is similar in the way it works to the 3.5 version, but is different in it's execution. The book itself has some nice things in it (I LOVE the Swashbuckler) and am playing one of theses Warlocks in Wrath's PbP. I bought it as a Pre-order and while a lot of it is not to my tastes, the stuff that is has made it well worth the buy for me. While the .pdf is on Sale for $1 I highly recommend that you pick it up. For that price you'd be barmy not too! :)

As to whether we know each other or not...
I don't think we'd know each other from Golarion, so the only way that we may be together is if we met afterwards.

Spoiler:
I have the Tome of Secrets and there are some interesting classes in it. Its pretty cheap so if you want to go with warlock then get the pdf of ToS. I'm not a great fan of warlock as a class, much prefer the swashbuckler and shaman.

Magical items and Treasure.

The best pbp adventures I am in have very few bits of treasure. The characters tend to focus on other things. I'd like to try to do the same with Lochaude. As part of that, things like the magical scroll that has been found, I am going to try to put the magic back in magic as well. I could have just told the PCs what was on the vellum and moved on but I'd like to make you guys work for it.

Let me know if that is okay with you all.

As a side note, if you had just walked away from the monstrous Tolorn on the horse without moving bodies or for instance, saying that someone was searching then you would have missed out on this piece of treasure because I wouldn't have dropped any hints. Just so you guys know what I am like for the future.

Perfectly fine by me FW. I like that we can miss treasure and clues if we don't actively search or look for things.

I do the same thing occasionally.

I also like the puzzle of working out what things do based on my knowledge of the game. (Or my characters knowledge if appropriate).

The vellum is safely in the hands of our young mage now, so hopefully he can make something of it.

Make Human 1/ Warlock (Hidden as Wizard)

This is Khaladon and here is a peek anyway at Lomar. I'm having the same problem flash is actually. Partly because of some RL chaotic times recently, partly because Warlock is a new class for me, partly because it's seemed to have taken me much longer to really get into the head of this character than it normally does.

FW only

Spoiler:

FW, do the PC's have to be Good aligned? I've been thinking this cat leans more toward NE. But if that's not acceptable, then I'll likely make him CN.
