Just found out from our gamestore owner that he's not only getting in a big shipment of the new core Pathfinder books, but he's opening the store at midnight to have a huge release party.
Pretty awesome stuff. The plan is to do a D&D Day type thing with it--have a bunch of guys to run one-shot games with pregen characters. People come in, grab a book, plunk down at a table, and game till they die of sleep deprivation. Sounds awesome.
I'm thinking of suggesting some kind of deal with the owner to have a deal where you get some kind of discount buying the Gazetteer and main book at the same time. Just seems like it will get more people actually playing the game.
Anyway I'm super excited.
If any of you happen to be in the area, it's going to be held at the Dragon's Den in Pocatello, Idaho.
Dude, this is so cool.

So what I've got going so far is this: I'm thinking of running a 1st level game (was originally thinking 8th, but the rules seemed to be a bit thick at that level for folks as yet unfamiliar with the game)
My thought, since I obviously won't have the books to make characters and totally don't want people starting chargen at midnight with brand new books, has been to reflavor the statblocks for the pregens from Crypt of the Everflame to make original characters based off of them.
I'm thinking of running the Compleat Adventure: Death Shrine of the Ninjas for the event. It's nice and short and full of distinctive Pathfinder flavor. I'm thinking of setting the adventure in Galt, with the ninja cult setting up its web of extortion and murder amid the rampant political instability of that country. I really like the three main villains from that game and the locale in the adventure is nicely atmospheric.
The hope is to have a pregen monk from Cheliax, a half-orc ranger from the River Kingdoms, a Varisian "gypsy"-feeling bard, an Osirioni cleric and an Desna worshipping elven druid. I'll probably have to change that up depending on what signature characters are in the adventure.
Anyway that's what I've been mulling over the past few days.

What? No magic-user? ;-)

Originally I'd pulled the mechanics from the Pathfinder blog, basically all the 8th level characters (and Harsk, though I had to knock him down two levels). That left me with kind of a weird mix, but I really kind of liked it.
That said, once the adventure shows up I've gotta' imagine it's going to be Valeros, Seoni, and whatnot--a much more traditionally built party.
But yeah, it would have been fun to force folks to choose between a bunch of less-common choices. I really love parties that don't follow the typical Fighter-Thief-Wizard construction.
