Paladins, turning, and divine feats.

General Discussion (Prerelease)

Feats like divine might and divine shield use up one turning attempt per use. Many other feats have the same mechanic. How will these function for paladins in pfrpg?

Will they cost two lay hands uses per or maybe just one? Will you be required to take the turn undead feat to use them?

I really don't believe there will be a mandatory feat tax requiring paladins to take a "Turn Undead" feat to be able to use these other divine feats.

In 3.5, the thing that clerics, paladins, and many other divine classes could do that either destroyed undead or made them run away was called "Turn Undead". Therefore, many divine feats list "Turn Undead" as a prerequisite for the divine feats.

In Pathfinder, the same ability has been renamed to "Channel Energy", with a new mechanic to go with it - but it is the same class ability. Ergo, divine feats that are based on this class ability will now, in Pathfinder, convert their requirement to "Channel Energy" instead of "Turn Undead".

I suppose if there ever is a feat that makes undead run farther or faster or whatever after they have been turned, then such a feat as that might require first taking the Turn Undead feat.

As for requiring 1 use of LoH or 2, maybe only time will tell, but it seems like they will use 2. Which is a shame, because my paladin gets far far more out of saving his own life as a swift action while he's pounding the bad guys than he is likely to ever get from using up two whole LoH uses for the little benefit those feats offer - especially since he would also have to spend a feat slot to learn how to do this...

Yeah, divine might would certainly be out the window if it is two, but I think I would still have to take divine shield. Divine shield combined with shield ward is just too much of a lifesaver versus touch attacks not to take.
