As my previous post I have been following the posts. I just wanted to point out that at least two of the current characetrs have not bumped up their characters to 7th. I may have missed where they didnt need to but wanted to point it out in case it makes combat more difficult than you intended.

Brujo and Perigia - make sure you're up to date and fully statted (NOT the CB cut and paste) in your profiles if you would.
Caine, Snagg's cloak gives a +2 to Fort/Ref/Will and has a daily power I'll need to cross check unless Cale has it stashed somewhere and can remember before I find it and post. Got the file - many thanks. You also need to update your profile as above.

Just click on Snaggle's profile. It's still there, right? If not, it is listed in game on page..... 19. Reposted for your convenience.

How is your cat, Rose? Is it fatal? I hope not.
Probably :( Looks like the beginnings of kidney failure to me, which may or may not be manageable. He's 14 and suddenly got hit with the old age stick. He's looking a bit perkier today and is eating again, so we'll see how it goes.

On a different note. I think that the Paizo dice roller hates me.
It loves Hobbes, so far. But I know what you mean. I appreciate that Rosey is okay with hand-rolling at home. It doesn't necessarily mean better results, but it makes you feel better to know it was actually rolled instead some computer algorithm.

If I don't trust you all by now, I never will. Seriously - who is honestly going to cheat? We're grown ups. Some of the time anyway :D.
I am fine with home rolling. I use the on site roller if I'm doing a short post, but for major monster updates, I've taken to home rolling more and more because it all takes time.
Post narrative, roll dice, look at result, amend or add to narrative, roll damage, check result, post what happens to characters... One burst attack can take many minutes and once you multiply that by several monsters, you're looking at nearly an hour for long updates. Ze boards, zhey hate those posts and eat them for lunch. Home rolling is preferable to minor nervous breakdown.
Cat is dozy, but happier today. Clearly far from well and needs blood testing tomorrow, but not crying and wandering aimlessly about any more.

Ah, thank you for that. I'll make sure he notes his surge total now he's back in circulation.
As things stand a present they're rather low on available healing, but they're running out of enemies at about the right time as well.
No problem, and to answer Erik's question he used a majestic word and an inspring word before (from his feat). So that majestic word was still available that you just used.
On a side note are these monsters you made up, or did they come from the Faerun setting, because this battle is awesome.

The sharn is from the Faerun guide. It's a level 12 solo artillery and I put it through monster builder to take it down to a level 10 elite artillery.
The void callers are from MM2, upgraded from level 5 to level 7.
I thought they'd make a tricky combination with some interesting powers. Generally I try to mix monsters up a bit so they don't always do the expected thing. I needed something that tied in with what had happened so far and it had to be an encounter that would force them to work together and bond as a group.
Rev Rosey |
As long as it feels dangerous. I think that particularly in a pbp, it's important the battles feel purposeful since they take so long to play out. Getting to the end and thinging "Meh, we could have done that in 10 minutes in a table game" takes some of the shine off it.
I'll play the monsters to win (what's the point otherwise?) but I'll never deliberately throw the party in over their heads.

Yeah, Hobbes needs to rest. I had to use all my dailies and my encounters. In fact, the only power I didn't use was my Burning Spray (at will close blast) and my Elemental shift (util 2 power).
Rev, is it alright if I talk to Cassandra without always using the special arcane language? It's not RAW, but I like being able to talk to her, make asides, have one-sided conversations. I'll have her always talk to Hobbes in the special langauge(aka meowing), but what's the fun of making pithy comments when no one else can hear them? Cassie can't understand anyone else's language, just Hobbes. If it becomes an issue down the road, I will be willing to change it, but I think it works the way I have been doing it so far. Let me know.
OR I was thinking... Perhaps she understands him while in passive mode, due to their physical connection, but when she is in active mode, they have to talk aloud because they are not connected. Just a thought. Whatever you think is fine with me. Like I said, familiars in 4E are useful merely as guards and scouts, nothing else. I like the roleplaying aspect best.
Rev Rosey |
I think the way you're dealing with her is just fine. The 4e familiar mechanics are still pretty new to me as well.
She's a cat, they always walk their own road, under 4e rules or any other - I can easily see a cat familiar deciding to talk to whoever she wants to talk to if the need arose or if Hobbes was being particularly dumb about something.

To bolster my argument, I went back and reread the "Be Familiar" article that came out at the same time as Arcane Power. According to the Design & Development article about familiars, the article was written at the same time as the section in the book and is equally as important. In the description text of that article, the example talks to his skull familiar in Common and the skull talks to him in the arcane language. Just like I have been doing. So we'll keep going the way we've been going. :)

I realize that neither the switch to a new thread or Martial Power 2 are coming out that soon, but I figured I'd ask now. Mind if I switch Kelgan over to a Brawler Fighter build when those two events happen? The main differences would be whittling the fullblade down to a bastard sword and switching out one of my at-wills, a class feature, and maybe an encounter or two.
-Switch Reaping Strike for Grappling Strike(Hit someone with main weapon, then grab them with your off hand, can be used instead of a melee basic attack in an OA)
-Exchange Combat Superiority for Combat Agility(When marked enemy triggers an OA, shift Dex-mod squares and make a basic attack, if it hits target is knocked prone)
Yeah, it would probably be a big change, but honestly I would of made him a Brawler Fighter if they actually existed at that point.
Cale Noor |
Davi, I think the brawler style has a lot of potential. Instead of using combat challenge and combat superiority to hold an enemy in place, you literally hold them in place, i.e. grab. There are also a lot of hit and grab powers and hit and punch powers and even a hit and trip power. I doubt your damage potential will go up, but you might be more 'sticky'. And because you will be doing two things during your turn, you open yourself to missing more often. Like a tempest fighter. Extra attacks only mean something if you actually hit with them.
I ordered my copy of MP2 on Amazon and got it on Tuesday, so I am still looking through it.
I think the brawler style actually makes it worth it to get the improved grab feat (for the +4 feat bonus to grab attacks). Since I tend to favor two-handed weapons, that feat is a waste for my builds. But it is perfect for a brawler.
I didn't want to clog the main thread with MP2 talk.
Davi The Eccentric |
Hey now, I wouldn't be interested in switching to a Brawler Fighter if I didn't know roughly what they could do, right? Anyway, I'm planning on concentrating more on the grab-based powers since it'd take too many feats to get my unarmed attacks to roughly the same level as my regular attacks. Right now, I'm think I'm just going to retrain Student of Battle, Passing Attack and Settling The Score(mainly because Makeshift Shield sounds cool, to be honest).
EDIT: Here's a pretty good thread about Brawler Style. The OP's opinion seems to be that grappling-focused brawlers are slightly worse than weapon talent fighters, and other varieties of brawler just don't have enough feats to be really effective until paragon teir.

A Question for you all (or rather, several questions):
1) Do any of you play Savage Worlds? Or would you be interested in trying it?
2) If so, would you like to be a player in a PbP Savage Worlds conversion of Kingmaker?
3) If so again, would you be averse to it being played on Google Wave?
I know, it sounds like a niche of a niche, but it would be interesting to find out as I really want to run it.
