Where do the eaten posts go?

Seriously... I noticed a few weeks ago, about the time when a bunch of the avatars went MIA, that some posts just disappear. Although they register on the Index page as the last post made, when you enter the thread they aren't there. Prime example: The Remake Thread currently shows 53 posts on the index page, last post made by houstonderek. Open the thread, and there is only one page (50 posts) and houstonderek made none of them.

So... where do they go? Post purgatory? Waiting in some in between place until the end days?

I mean it's totally ironic, I wrote this post once and hit 'preview'... poof... I had to rewrite it. :-/

Ok, now I'm freaking delusional, the afore mentioned missing posts are where they should be...

But I know that my posts from the PFRPG Launch Poster thread are still missing.

It has long been rumored that The Post Monster General has a secret digital bunker tucked away in a forgotten corner of the internet. There, in an oubliette constructed from PASCAL, he keeps all lost posts, as well as the truth about the disappearances in the Bermuda Triangle.

Bit bucket?
The ether (as in ethernet)?
Jimmy Hoffa's grave?

But yeah, sometimes posts don't show up. I have no idea if it is a browser refresh problem or what; I would think looking at the HTML the server sends out would be a huge help (as far as I know, the is no client side scripting involved, anyway).

Ethertestines?

An oubliette made of PASCAL... now that's harsh!

Nope; it's even worse: COBOL.

At least PASCAL is procedural...

There are two different things going on here.

In the case of the "phantom" posts, well, we run multiple versions of our store on different servers, and that's just a case of them not all getting updated about posts at the same time. Eventually, this problem fixes itself.

In the case of posts that just vaporize, that can happen when the application that serves you the "create new post" page goes away before you hit the Submit Post button. Maybe you took too long and it got tired of waiting, or it crashed, or we had to replace it with a newer version of the application—we always try to "soft roll," letting older versions expire gracefully, but sometimes we have to just pull the plug and switch everything over at once. Posts in that category never come back, because they weren't actually recorded in the database.

We've done a lot to reduce the likelihood of both of those things, but I doubt they'll ever completely go away.

For these posts, the angels weep.

@ Bugley - hey, it answered the title thread directly! heh-heh

Don't believe him Darkwolf! It's a known fact that the being calling itself Vic Wertz was hatched from an alien space pod and is only here to lull us into a false sense of security so his otherworldly masters can invade, enslave humanity, and use are brains as sustenance!

Funny, that's exactly what my parents said about my brother and I.

Ya know ever since I made this post I've had the strangest feeling that I'm being followed. But when I turn there's nothing there... except that little flicker at the edge of my vision. But that's nothing... right?

I've heard that there are special sunglasses you can use to see the enemy for what they really are.

Yes, I hear if you're trying to quit smoking you can hit a chemical balance that allows you to see them as well. But I don't smoke...
