Hi All,
Heading up for Gen Con with a bunch of gamers. There's five for us that have been playing since D&D first addition but are new to Pathfinder. Most of us have received our newly minted, OS ordered core rule books and will be fine with the laws (ain't that much of a jump for 3.5 players) but a little lagging in World Bling. I guess that good news for DMs because there's nothing worse than a player that knows more about the game world than you do (Forgotten Realms anyone?).
Hi Rizzo,
Actually, thus far campaign knowledge hasn't really played a large factor in Society adventures, at least not as far as knowledge checks, campaign spoilers, plot continuity etc go. Campaign knowledge has been more background flavour than anything else. Don't get me wrong, Pathfinder Society definitely does have it's unique flavour, but this has mostly been the five factions, which is communicated via your faction missions and players roleplaying their various alliances, and the locations and nature of your missions, eg Absalom with it's Puddles and Precipice districts and crumbling siege towers, and the occasional desert ruins recovery mission etc. The scenario intros generally provide the information your characters need to get into the action. Perhaps the one area where campaign knowledge can be useful is familiarity with your patron deity if playing a cleric character. Perhaps because the campaign is still young, you won't have fallen behind the curve in relation to campaign knowledge.
Anyone else realise it is International Talk like a Pirate Day on Saturday the 19th? Morning Tide and Perils of the Pirate Pact. ARRH-ARRH ME MATEYS!
No I hadn't. If I had, I would probably have tried scheduling scenario #02 The Hydra's Fang Incident on Saturday which is also pirate related. Unfortunately, I think Hydra's Fang was a casualty of not being enough tables to run all the sessions we submitted, so a few sessions evaporated.
I haven't read it yet (one of our other fine GMs will be running it, and I don't want to spoil the opportunity of playing it myself later) but I don't think Tide of Morning is pirate related, it seems to be more druid focused. Oh, but then there's that druid with the eye-patch and parrot companion ...
And welcome to the games! :-)

Hope y'all have a blast! I want reports from the field!
I'll do my best, but I'm also GMing games through the last hour of Jason's seminar on Thursday afternoon, and right through his seminar on Friday afternoon, so I'll be relying on scouts and spies to recover the best intelligence.

Fri talk is the one on whats next for Pathfinder isn't it?
Haven't had much contact with Ian lately hes all engrossed in organising this thing call GenConOZ. Bastard even missed our regular fri night Legacy of Fire game.
Not getting to play fri and sat as I am volunteer for those days. :-( but hoping to be able to wangle time off for the talks by Jason.

Fri talk is the one on whats next for Pathfinder isn't it?
I don't really know.
When first planning to run Pathfinder Society at GenConOz, I looked at the sessions for GenConIndy and noticed the Conversion seminar/workhops session. So I asked Josh if it would be a good idea to run a Conversion seminar/workshop at GenConOz? He strongly encouraged we did, though I really had no idea how I'd present it.
Fortunately, Jason came to the rescue by announcing his guest appearance at GenConOz, so you won't have to sit through four hours of me rebuilding my half-orc monk from Living Greyhawk.
Then last week I noticed the second Conversion seminar/workshop mysteriously appear on the schedule for Friday afternoon. I suspect "Conversion seminar/workshop" may be a place-holder name, and Jason will probably fill the time with whatever agenda he feels appropriate.
The rules have been out for a month now, so I'm guessing many players will already have access to the Pathfinder RPG core rulebook and have created/converted their characters, unlike GenConIndy where the conversion seminar was the first access players had to the rules they'd be using in the next session.
Of course this won't be true for everyone, as the core rules so spectacularly sold out on their day of release; Pathfinder is attracting many new players and previous players back to the game; I'm sure Jason has insights into the system that all of us will find enlightening, but the need for a Conversion seminar/workshop may not be as urgent as it was for GenConIndy; and some players might not be able to attend the Thursday session due to workday commitments.
I'm sure Jason also has other stuff he wants to share with us all (eg, revealing two additional Advanced Players Guide base classes), so I'm not sure if both seminars are going to have Conversion content, or if both seminars are also going to cover other news. I guess we'll have to wait and see.
I also notice that the Thursday seminar is booked out (one seat remaining), though when I submit the seminar for GenConOz approval, I wasn't aware of the capacity of the seminar rooms. I sumbit 30 participants, but I notice the new Friday seminar has room for 60, so I'm wondering if there is un-advertised capacity for the Thursday session? Or if it will remain 30 seats due to being a smaller room, or the "workshop" nature of the session? I also notice only 2 seats have been pre-registered, probably due to it's late inclusion. I'm assuming it will fill with walk-in attendees on the day.

On that note for rulebooks -
Ace Comics in the Queenstreet mall has their shipment of Pathfinder. 3 whole boxes of them.
I got my copy yesterday (ordered over the phone). Should be here by this arvo or maybe tomorrow. Just in time for the con :)
I think I'm scheduled to game through Jasons seminar on the 19th (Isn't that the Saturday afternoon). My game session runs from 3 till 5pm, so i guess I'll mis that talk (unless we fly through the game faster than the speed of light).
Looking forward to meeting some of you there.
Cheers

No, Jason's seminars are 4pm on Thurs 17th, and 2pm on Fri 18th. I don't see any seminar scheduled for Sat 19th.
Looking forward to meeting some of you there.
Me too. I've already met Pathfinder players from Melbourne, Geelong, Sydney, Darwin and New Zealand. Looking forward to seeing some of them again at GenConOz, and meeting new players from Brisbane and elsewhere!
See you all at the games - only two days to go!

Hi guys, you'll be glad to know that Jason made it in to Brisbane safely this afternoon and is looking forward to the show.
The 2 pathfinder conversion seminars he is running thursday and friday are exactly that, conversion seminars. They are both held in the same room so seating capacity is limited but theres plenty of standing room so if your available and haven't registered for that seminar, feel free to come along and listen in.
Jason is also running a seminar on Saturday at 4pm entitle SEM00022 Whats next for pathfinder. During this he will be revealing new secrets including the two new base classes from the forthcoming advanced book
You can see his schedule on his blog
http://iuztheevil.livejournal.com/
and when he's not at a panel he'll be at the paizo booth in the trader hall.
Hope this helps

Masika - Your with us for Eye of the Crocodile King & Perils of the Pirate Pact. Your Ranger will fit in just fine with the party.
Anyone else realise it is International Talk like a Pirate Day on Saturday the 19th? Morning Tide and Perils of the Pirate Pact. ARRH-ARRH ME MATEYS!
Awesome. :)
Unfortunately I changed from the periels of the pirate pact to the grandmaster torch adventure!
I can still talk like a pirate though. :)

<sigh> Guess I'll be missing all those seminars. Working Thursday and Friday, booked in for a game from 3-7 on the Saturday.
Will be trying to track Jason down at the Paizo booth between game sessions on Saturday it seems.
On a plus though, I have a two hour break between devil we know part 1 and 2 on the saturday so I'll be able to see some of the other things going on at the Con.
Cheers

Also darkwhite I would like to play some events however getting online and buy ticket is now impossiable so yeah... I will make a call later in the day at seven at night as not to disturb your work ect...
Hi Caladors,
I believe online registration is now closed, but you can register for sessions on your arrival to the venue. I don't have access to registrations, so I'd suggest you make this your first priority on arrival.
Last I checked, there were limited spots available:
- 4 for Thursday evening
- 3 for Friday morning
- 10 for Friday afternoon
- 9 for Friday evening
- 2 for Saturday morning
- 2 for Saturday afternoon
- 2 for Saturday evening
- 2 for Sunday morning
- 0 for Sunday afternoon
Though I'd expect these to be snapped up real fast.
There is a chance of releasing another table for Pathfinder Society, but which sessions this might become available hasn't been confirmed.
Again, as I don't have access to the registrations system, this is all subject to availability. Hope you can get a few games in!
cheers,
DarkWhite

It's midnight, and just arrived back in my hotel room after running another full day of sessions of Pathfinder Society scenarios to a very appreciative group of players.
It's been a fantastic GenConOz so far, and still another day of gaming to go!
I'd like to throw out a very special thank you to the GMs who have been running Pathfinder Society sessions with me at GenConOz 2009 over this weekend: John (Deluge), Patto, Gitch and Austin; and GenConOz Mark who has helped us add additional tables to an otherwise full event to help meet player demand.
I'd also like to thank the players who have made these games so entertaining for us all: Abrahaam Thunderwolff, Adom Radames, Andre, Angur the Outcast, Curse, Davor, Daigotsu, Emmia, Ezren, Farouk, Grunch, Hank, Helmid the Swift, Iacomo Aubrecht, Jackson Pillage, Kaleen, Kalista, Karnak, Khain, Khalid bin Akbar, Korrbadaa, Kyra, Kyrannah, Margaret, Mercel, Merisiel, Moto Moto, Movius Leroung, Mytiazair, Oddmund Bellios, Picard, Proust, Rikarth, Saki Kanazawa, Saladid al-Makir, Salen Rendem, Seteshi, Seth Calador, Sumak Ashworthy, Valeros, Vel, Wesh.
I know that probably hasn't chronicled every Pathfinder who has journeyed with us this weekend, and there will be even more making their mark tomorrow, but thank you all, it has been my absolute pleasure to have embarked on those mad and dangerous journies with each and every one of you.
Hopefully many of you will continue playing Pathfinder Society with friends you've met at GenConOz, or taking the experience home and GM the scenarios for your home groups. It's been great watching the Pathfinder community expand, and hopefully I'll meet many of you again at GenConOz 2010 where some of you might be willing to join me GMing scenarios for others to enjoy!
Cheers,
DarkWhite

I played in the Grand Master Torch game late Saturday evening and just wanted to say thanks to our DM Patto and the rest of the party for a great introduction to the Pathfinder Society.
Despite the fact that Kalista spent more time being healed than actually doing the healing herself I still had a whole lot of fun (and I'm sure the rallying speeches of the indomitable paladin Moto Moto assisted in that regard).
Edit: And, of course, special thanks to DarkWhite for championing the whole Pathfinder exercise!

A big shout out to you DarkWhite and all the other DM's at the con. I'm not sure if I played at your table or not (my memory for names is absolutely shocking), but both GM's I had were fantastic guys and made the games great.
I had four games and spent the majority of them with the same players,
G'day to
Grunch - The dwarf who could not be hit (but ran away occasionally)
Moto Moto - The Gnome Paladin with frustration issues for his Pony mount and a quote for smiting that runs for 15 seconds but left us all applauding.
Curse - The rogue that left me feeling vaguely happy that were no PvP rules in society games .Curse "I search the corpse" DM "He's not a corpse yet, he's only unconcious" Curse "He's a corpse when I finsih searching him"
Seth - The fighter intent on charging through every AoO he could find. Spent more time on the ground trying to stabalize than any character I've met.
Davor - The Half Orc paladin with the gelaming smile (Orc Tusks are ivory apparently).
There were others but I only played the odd session with and whose nmes elude me.
All of you were great guys, and I'm hoping we manage to get a game up and running here in sunny Brisvegas. I had lots of laughs.
Also a shout out to Jason Bulmahn, he signed my book this morning and I had a chance to speak to him all by myself for a few minutes, but like a true geeky fanboy, blew it by running out of things to ask about a minute into the conversation. <sigh>I'm such a nerd. I thought of about 20 other things to talk about afterwards of course.
Cheers all for a great weekend.

What an awesome 4 days!!!
Meet some fantastic people - players and GMS. And my ranger managed to survive and to make 4th level - thanks to the 9 sessions I was able to played.
BIG BIG BIG thanks to DarkWhite for his organisation of the events. Special mention to the other GMs who volunteered, some at the last minute, to run tables so folks like me could play.
It was fantastic to meet Jason and actually physically expression my joy that Paizo brings to me and my friends through Pathfinder. I do hope that Paizo staff appearances are a regular event here in Australia in the future.
Well 40 hours+ since Thursday afternoon of PFS and talking has finally taken its toll and hopefully I will soon get more than 5 hours sleep.

Moto Moto - The Gnome Paladin with frustration issues for his Pony mount and a quote for smiting that runs for 15 seconds but left us all applauding.
I still say he's war trained and he would have no problem being lowered into the sewers at the end of a rope. Laraby knows Iomedae is watching over him.
A big shout out to everyone I met at the Con. Amazing event with much fun to be had all round. Met so many players and collected the contacts for regular local Brisbane players so we can finally get regular PFS games organised.
GMs were amazing thank you each and everyone, without you guys this isn't possible.
Thank-you to Ian Houlihan (GenConOz organiser) for making it happen. I know the amount of stress he was under making sure the entire of GenConOz ran smoothly and I'm sure now thats it's over for this year he's going to sleep for about a week. On behalf of every attendee THANK-YOU
Thank-you to the American giant Jason for his visit down under and informative speeches on Pathfinder. He was such a buzz to meet. When you talk with him about the game or go to one of his seminars during the con you can see and hear the love he has for this game. Thank-you for the Pathfinder rules and thank-you for not forgetting about us down under.
And a big shout out to all of those I haven't mentioned but had fun with on the day. Cannot wait to catch up with you all again
Snow Crash aka Moto Moto

I'd just like to add my thanks to Stephen aka darkwhite, for running and rallying such a strong pathfinder society introduction to Australia.
I'd also like to thank each of his GMs for running sessions when they could have been playing them, I'm certain it was greatly appreciated by their players.
In that vein I'd like to single out John specifically for running scenarios 29 and 30 which I was fortunate enough to play in and couldn't have asked for a better maiden voyage into the pathfinder society.
My fellow pathfinders, Valeros, Andre, Saki, Khalid and Angur were constantly entertaining and a joy to adventure with, so thank you one and all.
Finally in closing a special thank you must go out to Jason Bulmahn who was always generous with his time, insightfull, knowledgeable, gregarious and a genuine pleasure to be around.
I hope to catch up with you all at next years GenConOZ and if not sooner if we can get some sort of regular oganised play happening here in Brisbane.

Firstly, a HUGE thank you to all the DMs! I believe I played mostly with Stephen, John for the 2-parter and Andrew(? I missed your name) for one game. I can't even imagine how you managed to keep tanking on straight all that time. You guys are the greatest!
Secondly, thanks to GenConOz staff for an awesome con generally!
Third, it was great to meet everyone and game with y'all! I hope you'll forgive the bizarreness of a paladin of Shelyn and that we can meet again next year.
If there are any PFS games going on in NSW (Sydney, or better yet, Newcastle...), please give us a bit of warning. I'd love to head on down and play again!

What is this AoO you speak of...
Looking through all of my legal documents I have no idea of what you speak, It sounds to me like thiefs cant'.
But thats alright I will repesent any whom play.
I must speak to the Society...
There is a new disease spreading.
It when writting arrest warrents for the fallen, they had suddenly form spontaneous wounds.
This proved to be most frustating.
Also I must inform the Society the 'enemies' of the Society are rather well trained these days.
Upon leaping from open roof they managed to hit me a three yards away with there swords no less.
Cursed beast that they are.
Also on heroic, if I do so say myself call to battle to fell a foul druid touched by this madness of the end.
Well acording to the laws of nature it is cyclic and there can be no end, so we can't have druids breaking the laws of nature thats madness!
Ahh yes the acursed forests...
But thats a story for another time.
I must commend my allies.
Korrbada, ahh a filthy money diviner, brings warmth to my heart seeing the powers of the cities spread there wings.
Not there coin.
No, no, I had to pay for that.
Grunch, Always seeking battle.
Which seems rather foolish to me however he was quite adept at it...
I guess it doesn't matter when your out shone by someone in gleaming plate.
He didn't speak much he said something about being an anti social ass.
He didn't seem that charismatic at all.
Ahh and Moto Moto a name so good you have to say it twice.
He had a rather odd fondness for his horse.
In adventures I have had with him since he has shown why he loves it so.
Larraby you wonderful skip perhaps I will see you again another day.
And the softly spoken Davor, his sense of honor beyond messure thats good...
I always enjoy adventuring with those whom opperate within the bounds of the law.
But ever so good...
There are two sides to every coin yes but the coin is law and chaos.
Well ofcorse others are intitled to ther opinion but trying to get it hold up in the courts is the main thing.
Also there was someone else I think...
I saw shadows and wisps.
I wonder if that relates to this new disease?
Until next time pathfinders.
This is Seth Calador.
Well wishs to you and yours...
Seek me out if you become... entangled with the law.
Here is my card.
Seth Calador.
Part time pathfinder.
Full time law man.
BARRISTER
No case to large.
Many that are far to small...

I know I'm late adding my thanks, but better late than never.
Thanks for 3 awesome days of role playing and just awesome in general,
I can't thank the players and DMs alike for being there and being a bunch of awesome people (I use that word to much)
Anyway I hope to see you all again in the future.

Hi everyone,
Just wanted to let you all know, I've entered the sessions from last weekend, but there were a few sessions missing their report card. So I've set up a separate thread for providing me the player details for any missing sessions. You can check your sessions by clicking the "sessions" link on your profile page.
We ran 29 tables last weekend, easily the largest single gathering of Pathfinders anywhere in Australia to date. And did anyone else notice the overwhelming number of Andorans last weekend? Andorans out-numbered every other faction almost 4:1 as reflected by the faction mission results. It was not uncommon to see a table comprise of four Andorans alongside two other faction members. I guess Aussie Pathfinders value their freedoms!
Total for Andoran 92
Total for Qadira 26
Total for Taldor 21
Total for Cheliax 20
Total for Osirion 17
Cheers,
DarkWhite

Wrath we were playing with John in that first game that was the name of the DM, DarkWhite was Steven...
Since apperently I am an ass I am going to thank all of the people I played with.
DMs I give special thanks so thanks to
John for your perfectly draw pouncing rat.
Pat-O for allowing me to play around with my gimmic.
And Steven for running a great adventure...
"So snake what is your name?"
"SSSSssssssnake."
Thanks to John and his Dwarf fighter provding much need 'fire'power
Tony and his smiting speechs from Moto Moto.
Todd with Korrbadada, but mainly for being Todd and having some one to talk to.
Stuart for his character Davor, *Raises a glass* heres to heroes being heroes or villians... just like you said main the main character not bit bit parts for machinations of the realms.
Andrew, and his newly pregened character so we could have a cleric, glad you were there man you brought some real heart to the table.
Khain, freed slave and something else...
Thanks for having someone to bounce off Andrew.
Gnolls...
Adom, the sandwalker...
Thanks Andrew, you mood and demeanour really help espically since you were co-operative out of character even when you were not being in chacacter.
Really helped.
Thanks I had some of my best experinces with the Andrew twins.
And finally Ken with Mitizar?
I told you my character wasn't insane...
He just hates the forest.
So thanks guys...
But if I see you I will get a confused look on my face that will be me trying to remember who you are.
So if I call you by chacacter name don't be to insulted k?

No problem!
I played Adom... one of 2 Orision faction members at the event... I think I got 13 or a bit less PA out of the 17 at the event.
It was fun as it was my first conference playing RPGs. I learnt alot from the experience and plan to play again soon... well when ever I hear of my pathfinder games being held.

Your comment reminds me a little of when I attended my first Con, Spring Revel Down Under, Melbourne September 2004.
I had been playing various editions of D&D off-and-on for about 20 years, but SRDU was my first experience observing players other than my own home group. You get to see a lot of different play styles, realise some of the rules you avoided because they were confusing, suddenly became clear, and observed more efficient ways of playing the game:
- Perhaps a spell you'd never considered taking before, seeing it used to great effect by another player, or observing a combat feat in action and thinking "my ranger should take that";
- I never used minis in my games until I saw them being used at SRDU;
- I remember one player expressing "Wow, it's such a simple idea, why it never occurred to me?" when during a combat vs 10 goblins and 6 hobgoblins I kept track of damage by writing it on the battlemat right next to each figure, particularly useful for combats with many opponents because even writing it on the combat pad you forget which damage number corresponds to which opponent.
And seeing so many gamers in one place, you realise "Wow, I'm not the only gamer in Brisbane", and while a great many attended GenConOz, they're probably still only a fraction of the gamer community out there, and many of them are looking for gaming opportunities just like yourself, all you have to do is reach out.
I think that's the great thing about game conventions. I've met a lot of good friends through gaming, I met a bunch more in Brisbane, and I hope I have the opportunity to game with you all again.
And one more point to add:
If you had a great time at GenConOz, and enjoyed Pathfinder scenarios, then download them and run them for your friends. GMing a scenario you've already played is a great way of easing yourself into GMing if you're a little nervous about doing so. If you can GM a home game, you can volunteer a game day at your local store, meet more gamers in your area, and build a local community of Pathfinder players.
I think the only reason Pathfinder Society wasn't even bigger that it was this year at GenConOz is that we didn't have more GMs available. If you're GMimg Society scenarios for your home group, or volunteer a game days at your local store, familiarise yourself with a few scenarios by playing/running them, then you can GM next year at GenConOz. That's how I got started.
Given all the positive feedback we've received, I'd be surprised if Pathfinder Society wasn't bigger and better at GenConOz next year, as players re-tell their experiences with their friends, start up their own Pathfinder home games, and recommend the event to others.

![]() ![]() |

And one more point to add:
If you had a great time at GenConOz, and enjoyed Pathfinder scenarios, then download them and run them for your friends. GMing a scenario you've already...
I was planning on doing that last night!
My regular gaming time came around and I was going to run the frozen fingers scenario. Only had three players role up so we converted the characters over the PFRPG for the RotRL campaign I am running.
I am keen to run the PFS scenarios where I can.
Keep me in the loop for Melbourn PFS events, particularly cons, as I can most probably get there. I might even offer to run a game as well.

![]() |

I'll be in for at least one DM session at next years Con I reckon. Was good to get away from the GM hat for a while (I'm taking a year off DMing with my home group, letting someone else take the reins).
However if we get a PFS going here in Brisbane, I'll be pulling my weight by DMing some sessions so figure I should do the same for the Con.
Cheers

Hey Caladors (Henry),
I remember you telling me you didn't have the patience nor hands to paint up a mini... so I painted one for you. Happened to have one I'd started a year or so ago but never got around to finishing. He kinda matches your concept (lightly armoured, two handed weapon, flowing cape). Hasn't got any Barristers regalia but does match the fighter look.
If you want it mate, just let me know a postal address
send me an email at

Make sure you include something about roleplay or the con in the title so we don't just delete it as an unknown address.

Yeah, already planning to do this. Have just grabbed all the modules that I played through and am planning to infiltrate one of them into the D&D Games Day at Games Paradise in Sydney this Saturday if there isn't enough demand for 4th ed. (Which there usually isn't.)
I think most of us five Sydney-siders (Pathfinders Not Kiddiegrinders) will put our hands up for DMing duties next year, Stephen, so let's sync up to make next year's GenCon much bigger again.

That's the plan!
Hey, did you catch up with GM Patto? He's a Sydney-sider too, and has a regular Pathfinder group. You guys should get in touch so you're aware of any game days or such that you might be running locally. Let me know if you want me to forward him your email, in case he doesn't check the boards.
There must be conventions local to Sydney, but I'm not aware of Pathfinder running at any of them yet?

I think that's the great thing about game conventions. I've met a lot of good friends through gaming, I met a bunch more in Brisbane, and I hope I have the opportunity to game with you all again.
Deluge and I were commenting after the con that it was so nice gaming with Brisbane players - no power gamers or rules lawyers, every one was relaxed and just there to have fun. For a GM running sessions at a con, this was a very refreshing experience!

Yeah, we're in touch. There are a few conventions around that raise their heads from time to time. Might be an opportunity to further the cause.
