Star Wars Saga at PAIZOCON?

PaizoCon General Discussion

1 to 50 of 93 << first < prev | 1 | 2 | next > last >>

Hi all,
I'm going to be running some scheduled Pathfinder Society (D&D) games at the show but was thinking about getting together a Star Wars game at some point too.

Been talking to a Zuxius (a *huge* SW minis fan - this guy's got quite an army!) about it so I think that's one confirmed player if we can get something going. Anybody else interested?

I'm open to running a game in any era...but I don't have a lot of experience GMing higher power levels so I'd probably want to go somewhere between 1st and 7th level.

Feel free to post here or e-mail me (michaela at acaciarg.com) if you're up for it. I'd be more than happy to play too...if someone else is thinking of running something.
M

P.S. If anyone's thinking about running a Dark Heresy game I'd love to join you for it. I've got the core book and have read through it. I'm not up to actually GMing the system yet but I would certainly like to give it a try as a player. I could probably help out with minis, maps (SW Galaxy Tiles, wet-erase map), and stuff for such a game.

Depending on the schedule, I could be interested. I've played the d20 SW (and have waaaaay to many minis), but not it's current incarnation, so if it's got major changes, then I may be a bit lost rules wise. Also played the old d6 version (it is freakin' brutal ... three hits and you're dead ... you get quite good at creating replacement PCs fairly quickly).

Heya. Saga is very like D&D 3.5 with some minor differences (simplified skill system, condition track, and a few others) - easy enough for someone with no experience to pick up I think. Also, it's not terribly easy to get killed (Second Winds, Force Points to avoid death, etc.) Bit hard to heal up though...harder than D&D anyway.

We don't have a schedule at all yet. Just exploring the idea so far. I'm there from whenever I get there on Thursday until whenever I leave on Monday. Not sure about Zuxius' schedule but I know he's driving in...think I saw that he's doing a beer tour on Thursday so may not be gaming that day. :)
M

Speaking of SW minis, I did the maps for the Dawn of Defiance series (except #8). Fun stuff.

The Exchange

Cool Cool!

Beer Tour is Wednesday. I arrive a day early so I am not sad about lost opportunities at the convention or Seattle, either way.

I am so stoked about seeing a live SAGA SW in play. I have no gaming group in the deserty miner mountains that I live at.

This one I will attend with vigor! Count me pumped on whatever time you put it.

I've really enjoyed Star Wars Saga Edition and I've played every version of the RPG, thus far. It's whole version of the 3.5 ruleset is nicely done and it has a pretty good balance to the whole thing.

Hands down, it is one of my favorite games to play and run, plus switching back and forth to action in space and action on the "ground" is fairly seamless, too.

My group in Boise, whom I still play with via Skype, has had a pretty steady game of SWSE since it was released, so we really like it. Now if only I could play it down here in Klamath. :D

The Exchange

Well, we sure aren't getting much traction on this thread. May have to leave my minis in their case.

Man, if I could make it I would totally be down with SW Saga. An excellent game that I miss very much, due to the lack of local players. Curses for living in North Carolina!

Quick plug-I will have all of my SW map materials onsite for PaizoCon if you want to commission any custom maps for your SW campaign. I LOVE SW, by the way.

Sorry guys. I dropped the ball on this thread, mainly because I'm not sure about scheduling it. I ran the game described below for my home group and it took about 8 hours of play time. I'd like to do a shortened version of it (say 5 hours) at Paizocon.

Have to work out a schedule though (and make sure there would be enough participants). I'm get in on Thursday and leave Monday - driving so I'm flexible there. I'm scheduled to run PFS scenarios on Friday 12-4, Saturday 8-12, and Sunday 8-12. I have a game booked from 8-11:30 on Friday and plan to attend the banquet on Saturday from 7-11. No idea what might come from the event lottery.

I would be open to late night or early morning gaming if that worked out. Breaking it into two smaller sessions is a possibility. So, all that are interested, please give me some suggestions of what might work for you and we'll firm it up. I definately want to get in some Star Wars while at the show. :)
M

The Fell Star
It is a period of civil war. As the evil Galactic Empire focuses on the growing rebellion, criminal elements reign unchecked throughout the galaxy. Nowhere is this more apparent than in Mos Eisley, a wretched hive of scum and villainy on desolate Tatooine.

Forces of competing Hutt crime-lords and rival syndicates and cabals prowl the dusty streets, seeking profit at the expense of one another and society at large. Inevitably these disparate groups collide, their conflicting interests leading to open strife.

As unrest grips Mos Eisley's underworld, a valued retainer of PRELLO THE HUTT races against time to retrieve a long-lost artifact of extraordinary power before her sinister enemies can hunt him down and put an end to his quest...

Summary
Prello the Hutt has lost her favorite "acquisitions specialist", a Balosar named Barin Trevina. To find him, and the important artifact he was seeking, she has hired your team. Track down Trevina before Prello's competitors can and, if possible, help him recover The Fell Star.

Game System: Star Wars Saga Edition
Era: Dark Times/Rebellion (a year or so BBY)
Players wanted: 4-6
Level & experience: 1st, beginner and up
Date and Time: ???
Location: Open Gaming Area

I will bring a selection of pre-gens or bring your own. Characters will be 1st level. No Jedi (sorry, don't really fit) but I might consider Force-sensitive with a good backstory. Will have all books except the new Jedi one on hand and we *could* engage in a 30-minute fast (FAST!) character creation session before the game.

I would be interested in a game like this.
I'm decently familiar with SW SAGA rules, and could even write up a character to bring. Actually, as P-Con gets closer, I'd be down to discuss characters and group background with likely players so as to be able to start the game quicker.

I think it's best to wait until the event lottery has happened and everybody can see what times they have available. But a late-nite, or split morning/night, or empty-time-in-between-slots, game seems quite do-able.

Actually, I'm still trying to finalize a room-sharing arrangement (which I NEED to afford the whole trip - actually, if anybody would like a room-mate, let me know), but assuming that materializes, my room may be available as a space for a game if for some reason the Open Gaming area or other public spaces aren't available (such as late at night).

Yeah. Unless we want to schedule it outside the bounds of the available events it's probably best to wait until after the lottery to fix a time. The three four-table Open Gaming rooms are 24-hour, though, from Friday at noon until Sunday at 5 pm, according to Josh - so after/before-hours gaming is a possibility.

So, tentatively in are Zuxius and Quandary. Anybody else? Zylphryx?
M

The Exchange

Ok, my minis are back on the table!

Corey, I will commision a map or SW something! What can you do? My son and I can discuss it.

Of course Corey, you are invited to play. Not sure if it is feasible for you to find time, but it would be fun.

I just wish the 3.5 version of the Pathfinder rules were more like Star Wars Saga Edition....as streamlined and fast-paced and not as rules heavy.

Sovereign Court

I would still be interested. :)

Okay. That's three tentative. I'll assume we can reach our goal of at least four players in time for the show. After the event lottery is completed we can work out a time. I was thinking Friday evening might work...don't think events run as long that day as they do on Friday.
M

For SW maps, please download the Dawn of Defiance PDFs.

I don't have any online in my portfolio, but I've done PLENTY...and color ones in the Galaxy at War RPG book coming out this summer. Looking at what's been done will give you a clear idea of what can be made. Plus, did I mention I LOVE Star Wars?

I won't have time to play the games at PaizoCon, but I will be making some rounds to the rooms when I can to see that games that are utilizing some GameMastery maps.

Lantern Lodge

I've play a couple times and would love to play if it doesn't conflict with whatever paizo events i get into (and if there is still enough room for another player).

The Exchange

Well, this sure is looking up.

Okay, that's four tentative. I do want to make sure this doesn't compete with any Paizo events we're scheduled for.

Does the game summary above appeal to everyone signed on so far? It seems likely that I'll be "av challenged" at the show so I'll link the opening craw for it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Vs_GTZvLeg

BTW, I just got back from running my first game set in the Legacy era. Just two players, their Jedi characters are descended from characters they had played in the past. It was fun...finally got to have some good lightsaber duels! Here's the crawl I played tonight: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oEt4W5s77D4

Hi all,
At some point soon it would be good to take this to e-mail so we can discuss particulars without disrupting the main Paizocon board with constant thread bumping.

The Paizonians I have down as interested are: Quandary, Silkygreenbelly, Zuxius, and Zylphryx. Did I miss anyone?

If all interested participants would e-mail me (michaela at acaciarg.com) their contact details (I already have Zuxius) I'll kick the discussion off with character creation details. For those of you new to the game or without books I can create a character to fit your concept.

If we can get characters created before the show it'll leave more time for playing. :)
M

Okay. Got a nearly completed character from Zylphryx. Zuxius' character is on hold until he completes a writing assignment. Quandary and Silkygreenbelly, you guys in? Anyone else? E-mail me when you get a chance.
M

Off-topic@Silkygreenbelly: You know Chinese? What dialect? I speak/read/write very-rusty-but-once-nearly-fluent Mandarin. Reckon I could get around as a tourist these days but maybe not much more until I used it some.

I'm up for it but I've been super busy lately coupled with dropping my laptop means I have a hard time getting around to turning on my rather dusty old desktop. I'll try to email you Monday evening. I just dug out my Star Wars core rulebook and am getting excited.

To answer your off-topic, I know a bit of Mandarin. It has defiantly been getting rusty, but I could get around as a tourist. Especially since I found out you can draw characters on the iphone and if it isn't too scribblely it will figure out which character you mean.

Hi all,
I have e-mails from the four folks on this thread that wanted in on the game...I'm going to let it die now. If anyone else wants to join we could probably squeeze in an extra player or two. E-mail me at the address above if you are interested.

@SGB: Yeah. Very rusty myself. I've been reading some of the Harry Potter books - very slowly, with a dictionary for many of the words. I'll have to check out that iPod app.

Hi all. Little update. Had a couple of people that couldn't make it but three players that dropped in. After getting some characters created we ended up playing from around 5pm until 10pm (glad they let us stay in the room). I had a great time running it...and may post a recap when I get some time. Until then, thanks to the players for an evening of good fun. Hope we can do it again.

Sound's like a blast, wish I could have made it this year. I love Star Wars Saga.

I hope you find the time for a recap. I've been running a Saga game for a several months now and we're having a good time.

GAME ON!!!

Liberty's Edge

Hey Mearrin Thanks for letting us jump in on the game, Had a blast! Blew up a star fighter, Crawled through an asteroid, had a chace scene, and inadvertantly helped a hutt help the Emperor! All told a great time and a great convention!

Thanks for running the game! It was quite enjoyable ... The intro graphic was stellar and you do a hell of a toydarian impersonation. :)

Thanks :) BTW, I promised you guys I'd send you this link by e-mail and then completely neglected to get your addresses.

Be sure to read his commentary below - sometimes it's as killer as the stuff in the comics. Enjoy!

Assuming there is a PaizoCon 2010 and assuming I'm not homeless by then or something I would welcome you all back to a galaxy far, far away. Maybe some mid-power Jedi Knights and clone commandos against the evil forces of the C.I.S. or a daring raid into Krayt's citadel in the heart of Sith-held Coruscant.

Scarab Sages

How you you make a Pathfinder convention even better? Just add Star Wars! Totally unexpected and appreciated, I enjoyed freaking out the guy in the safe house. Looking forward to next year for sure.

Also am enjoying those comics. Classic. 77 down, like 200 more to read!

The Exchange

Thanks for throwing this event on! I learned a lot about the game. Maybe we can play a skirmish or two in 2010.

Thanks again,
Zux

Ahhh! Darths and Droids. I love that web-comic. Haven't checked it out since they started Episode 2. May have to peruse it this morning. :)

Scarab Sages

Loving the darths and droids. I was sharing our experience there with the intro movie and such with a former GM, and he about freaked out that he hadn't thought of doing an intro movie.

So I told him he needs to have it pan down to a planet after the crawl. lol.

I've got my project files for Media Studio Pro...happy to share them with your guy if he wants them. Don't know if I can convert to other video editing software formats but maybe.

Getting close! Need to bring this thread back to life! I would love to see some Star Wars going on. :)

Heya. We sure do. I had the adventure I ran last year on-tap but don't have anything ready to go this year. I'm pretty sure we can get enough people together for a good game (as I'm bringing at least one friend, maybe three) but I'll need to figure out what to run...you have any preferences?

If you run another Star Wars game, consider me in the "oo oo please add me to the roster" category. That was a blast last year and I would look forward to it again ... I may still have that Bothan sitting around somewhere. If not I can put together another one without much issue.

As to point in the time line, I've always been partial to the Dark Times, mainly due to the lack of canon that surrounded it (until recently), but would be psyched for any time period.

EDIT: And, may I say, you have made a great avatar choice. ;)

Well, that's two - and one vote for Dark Times. Can we count on Attic Whisperer as well?

@zylphryx: Oh yeah. It's all about the brains.

Yes we can count on Attic Whisperer. If not, I will annoy him until he remembers, and then we can count on him. We were actually talking about this just the other day.

Liberty's Edge

I will be there with bells on... Imaginary bells... but bells none the less! Had a blast with the game last year, lookin forward to meeting up with everyone again this year! This time I will bring my books, may try to pick up a few new ones by then.

Good deal, glad you'll be there again. Get those quick. I hear they're getting hard to find. :) I still need to get a couple of the last books (War, Intrigue, Droids, forget if there's another one) for the sake of completism.

Okay: everyone please give me a vote for era and what sort of stuff you'd be interested in doing and what types of characters you'd like to play. I'm pretty well decided that I don't want to run a Jedi game unless it's all-Jedi, BTW. Despite assurances to the contrary I think Jedi are more powerful than characters of other classes.

Thanks!
M

Sovereign Court

No desire to play a Jedi, but if everyone else plays a Jedi I may have an alternate concept to bounce off of you ;). I'm leaning towards soldier, scout or noble this go 'round. Assuming these classes stuck over from the d20 version ... still have not picked up the Saga books.

Dark Times is my era of choice, as I stated earlier.

Republic Commando Volunteers Needed for Special Ops Mission at PazioCon 2010

I am planning to run a Star Wars Saga Edition game at PaizoCon. I have been working collaboratively with another huge fan of the Star Wars Republic Commando novels on creating the adventure outline and translating concepts from the novels in the the Saga Edition rules.

As of right now I am planning to run with 4 PC's playing a Republic Commando squad on a black ops. mission behind enemy lines (would we have it any other way?)set at some point during the Clone Wars. Characters will be pre-generated 5th level or worked out with players individually ahead of time. All kit will be supplied by the Special Operations Brigade, Grand Army of the Republic.

When we get closer to the date of the Con I will post more info. Now I just want to see who might be interested! I want to play a variety of games while I am there but I also want to run this game with the option of picking it up for continuing sessions throughout the Con.

I'd be up for playing in that. I always end up running SW, never really get to *play* it. :)

Count me interested. ;)

Silver Crusade

I'm interested if there's room as well. Been playing the game weekly for almost a year and love it!

Silver Crusade

I'm in the process of building my Society characters... Wanted to know if we should have a character built or if you'll provide premades. Thanks!

For which game? Mine or Senshi's? I haven't actually decided about pregens or not for mine...last year it was a mix of characters made by players before the session and some rolled up on the spot. I'd prefer that, after I post the parameters (soon, promise!), we have folks make up characters before the game. I'm planning on doing something at higher level this year (last year we started at 1st).

Sorry, I was referring to yours. Didn't realize Senshi had posted about it as well. Looking back at his campaign, I may abstain, as one of the three interchanging campaigns in my weekly group is doing just that, but a group of ARC troopers rather than Commandos.
