Excsue if this has been posted before but I was wondering if a cleric is subject to an attack of opportunity if he tries turning against a creature that is not affected by turn attempts?
The priest in my campaign tried to turn a sinspawn in RoTRL, mistakenly thinking it was some form of undead and not an aberration.

Nawp - channeling energy is a standard action that does not provoke an AoO. Apparently waving one's divine focus in the face of the enemy is not sufficiently taunting to get them to attack you...
Waving a dagger in their face is also not sufficently taunting to get them to attack you.
AoO is not so much about how much you taunt your foe, and "provoking" has always been the wrong word for what really happens.
AoO is about doing something that distracts you, or prevents you from adequately defending yourself, thereby leaving yourself so vulnerable to attack that anyone near you is allowed to take a free shot.
You don't so much "provoke" an AoO.
Instead you "invite" an AoO, and your nearby enemies are welcome to accept your invitation or decline it, as they see fit.
This is why waving a holy symbol in the face of a zombie, or a sinspawn, or a troll, doesn't necessarily "provoke" or "invite" an AoO. You are still conscious, active, and attentive, and your attention is focused on this (these) particular enemy (enemies), so you are no more vulnerable to attacks than if you were waving a dagger in their face.
Hence the lack of AoO.
Hope that helps.

Also when you see the abilities they will generally have one of the following listed:
(EX) -- extra ordinary
(SP) -- Spell Like
(SU) -- supernatural
Generally (EX) and (SU) don't provoke AoO's and don't worry about spell resistance.
(SP) and (SU) don't function in an antimagic field, (EX) does.
None of the three generally have to worry about arcane spell failure (special exception in the case of the warlock, see class for details).
