Oh, on the mugged thing. Just watch out walking between the international district and downtown. Specifically, you probably want to be on your guard after pioneer square walking towards the international district. I've never had a problem, but it's dark and there are a few homeless people downtown. The only time I've ever seen a problem was when we caught the bus IN the international district after about mignight. There was a fight between two women in the bar across the street and I ended up having to go to the bathroom and found a syringe in the women's toilet. It was not pleasant.

I was going to inquire on two places if anyone has been there:
Goldberg's Deli @ Factoria - know it's by the old offices, wondered if it was any good.
Danube Bistro - Bellevue - miss good cabbage rolls and wiener schnitzel - unsure if this is the place to go. Probably (long) walking distance to the Con.
If you're going over to Seattle on a weeknight, Pike's market is ok, I find it a bit better on the weekends. Capital Hill, Fremont, or Ballard are a bit more bar hopping friendly anymore. Bottom of Queen Anne is still ok, mostly. Pioneer Square/International are probably fine on weeknight, but yah, late or late on the weekends, ymmv.
If you do get over to Ballard, there's a puerto rican place that is great. I forget the name, but been there and loved it. The Ballardites (Ballardians?) probably know it.

Goldberg's Deli @ Factoria - know it's by the old offices, wondered if it was any good.
I can tell you all about Goldberg's, they are in fact decent with caveats.
I had a friend work there and we ate there fairly often for awhile. They barely pass their inspections and have gotten a number of flags for food being out when it shouldn't be. Also the manager hired a consultant who was a complete ass and was taking them for a ride apparently. It is expensive, but their reuben is probably worth it if you are in the area and like reubens. They have very good coleslaw, but I can get basically the same coleslaw at shultzy's. The jewish fare is generally tasty. Crystal loves the reuben and the cheese blintzes.

My wife works nearby and likes it. I went with her once for brunch and wsa not impressed with the food.

I'd like to do a little (little!) walking on wednesday afternoon around the waterfront/downtow (IF jetlag allows)and most likely stay around Pike Place -stick to familiar places!- I'd like a place where I can check the outdoors 'cause maybe I'll be alone or just with one friend, so indoor staring at strangers may not be so much fun, or maybe a lound place where I can check the jolly patrons and try to listen to the fast-pacing (standard) english talks, So I'm guessing I'll end up on the Pike Place brewery or maybe search for tha Capitol Hill, 'cause I hope Cosmo's taste is a good taste! And that tumbling trip for burger sounds mighty tempting :)
BTW, if anyone wants to join, just say so! I'll (we?) be leaving from the Bellevue hotel.
Speaking of Pike's Place - how far is it from the hotel? My flight doesn't leave until midnight (yikes!) on Suday so I'm going to have some time to kill ...
Maybe 12 miles. It is across Lake Washington from Bellevue.

Yeah, easily quite a distance. Think of bellevue as kind of a suburb of a large town. That said, it's not undoable. You can grab a bus pretty easily until fairly late in the evening. Just plan ahead and don't miss your buses. or if you have a car, it's not entirely out of the way from the airport. It's just kind of the long way. =) Sundays is not the best day to go. It'll be open but some of the vendors might not be there, but also neither will the bulk of the crowds which can be formidable fridays and saturdays.

If you have never been to Seattle before, you may be wondering what there is to do outside of the hotel in Redmond (well, I did say "may be"). Here is a brief collection of links that will start you thinking:

Plus here's a great virtual tour to launchSince it's the ocean that draws a lot of people, I'd start by focusing on Seattle near the waterfront. The waterfront is a nice walk, lots of restaurants, including Ivar's Acres of Clams and the Crab Pot. Also, you've got the Seattle Aquarium there, and Pike Place Market right nearby. Piers 55/56 is where you can catch a cruise to Tillicum Village on Blake Island and have a smoked salmon dinner...very cool. Or just take a ferry ride over to Bainsbridge Island and back.....
Pike Place Market: Everyone sees the upper level, with the guys throwing fish, but the lower level is pretty cool too. And go across the street and go through all the shops there, including Post Alley. My favorite place to eat there? Piroshky Piroshky, across the street from the main market.
Pioneer Square:
Lots of nightclubs here, but of special interest I HIGHLY recommend the Underground Tour, This is one of the neatest things I've ever done in Seattle.
Plus, one of my favorite restaurants, the New Orleans Cafe, is down in Pioneer Square. Oh, and down near Safeco Field, go across the street to the Pyramid Brewery and Alehouse.Lake Union:
