Pharasma

Lost Omens Campaign Setting General Discussion

We are starting a table top game this weekend and I was thinking of playing a cleric of Pharasma.

I've got the Pathfinder Campaign setting and looked at the wikki, and I gave my dm a copy of 'Gods and Magic' but have not had a chance to look through it, is there any other key and choice tidbits I should know regarding a cleric of the Lady of Graves as I page through 'The Bones Land in a Spiral' ?

As always, my thanks

sorry for the double post, I could not delete the other in time.

Liberty's Edge

oops, I just replied to your first post. Anyway, to re-post here;

What did you want to know Kate? Things mechanical or fluffy?

A few tidbits from Gods and Magic regarding the role of priests; they oversee births, and funerals; they protect graveyards. Adventuring priests of Pharasma avoid entering tombs for purposes of looting (though will do so for the purpose of dispatching known undead)..

Were I to tell you of birth, fate, and death would it please you, Kate? I think not. I think it would rather choke your illusion of free will.

Nice. ;-)

I thought about playing a Cleric of Pharasma myself, until I found out that the goddess forbids her followers from creating undead, which greatly weakens her Death domain (no more 8th level continuous Call Undead, nor 16th level Create Undead thrice a day).

I prefer my patron deities less confused.

That's an admittedly odd scenario. However she also has the Repose domain - and OMG, have you read it's 1st level power?

No real need to choose Death domain as a cleric of Pharasma.

Also, per Gods & Magic, you get False Life, Clairaudience/voyance, and moment of prescience as cleric spells. Plus the Pharasma spell in that book is rather awesome (cheap stoneskin!).

It's all a sham, anyway.

The undead theme, death and respose domains are talked about alot but don't forget the birth and divination aspects.

My girlfirend is heading towards a Midwife/Soothsayer concept for a cleric of Pharasma (Healing and Knowledge domains) and the facts that Pharasma might have know about Aroden's fate but didn't say is what got her more intereted.

Pharasma relationship to undead = lay them to rest

Pharasma relationship to necromancers = lay them to rest :P

Pharasma oversees life and death, they are both sides of the same coin, she sees you arriving crying into the world, and see yourself going in the same way... or possibly with a bit more of dignity...

as you choce your ways on life... she just head you on the right direction for your price...

Pharasma has nothing to do with undeads because she is the cycle... and undeath is to move outside the cycle...

where is the confussion?

Kate if you have the chance read about Pharasma on God & Magic, it gets flavor details around Pharasma clergy... so that falls directly into the players purview.

I say. You'd think it's not too much to ask to drop a hint over dinner or something like that. "Is that the twelve pack? Maybe you should go with a single. You don't want to buy something you won't be using..."

Depends on the necromancer. If he just sucks out people's life force to kill them dead, she's fine with it - no different than evokers tossing around fireballs and barbecuing people.

If he's the guy who won't leave well enough alone and give people a rest when they're dead, she's got views.

I heard she likes surprises and see what faces do people make when receiving them.... either good or bad ones...

Hi Mothman and everybody, I was looking for some mechanical (as in addiontal spells available, maybe feats or special abilities) and even a little fluff, but I already have a good idea how I want to play her so mostly 'crunch' I guess.

And thanks to those helping out !

Sean anything you can add ?

Pathfinder Chronicles information is/will be mostly fluff, but there are a few morsels around, mostly in Gods & Magic

Her followers can use a spell (defending bone) to animate a bone which will then interpose itself against physical attacks.
Her followers gain access to a number of divinations and necromantic spells (though none that create undead) that would normally not be on their list. For example, Clerics can use false life as a 2nd-level cleric spells.

"America's Funniest Faces of Death."

I bet Pharasma gets to hear a lot of funny stories, too.

"How did you get here?"
"It's my drill sergeant's fault! He told us how to throw hand grenades. 'Pull the pin, count 21..22..23 and THROW.'"
"So?"
"Damn think went off at nine"

Liberty's Edge

who said Pharasma had no humor...

to have her job for so long you need both patience and humor... from the funniest to the most stupid ideas... its part of the job i guess

Well, let's see. Granting your followers the power to summon and create undead and forbidding them from doing it ?

I think she must be the Jekyll and Hyde of the pantheon : split personalities and sadism mixed into one.

Either that or it was a misprint that granted her the Death domain ;-)

There was mention in another thread that her clerics can take a feat which allows the cleric to use Positive channelling and negative channelling interchangably. I can't find it, but sometimes my search-fu isn't the greatest. Maybe one of my kind fellow Paizoites can lead us to it....or the fellow on the other thread was leading me down the garden path.

Don't know about any such feat, at least not from Paizo.

I've used a similar feat from Complete Divine (I think, no books on hand) but I haven't seen something like this for Pharasma.

Well, that would keep all those souls waiting in line in the boneyard a bit less bored ...

For what it's worth, the Cloistered Cleric Variant (in the SRD) should be looked at for certain concepts. I hope a PF version pops up at some point, I tried home-brewing one but didn't come up with something I felt was good enough.

The cruch part of the Gods and Magic is a good place to look. And the free Pathfinder Character Traits Web Enhancement has a lot of cool crunchy/fluffy options.

Such a feat was proposed by a poster for True Neutral Clerics of a True Neutral God. Then others, including myself, proposed widening its applicability.

Cannot remember which thread it was, though.

Where is that enhancement? I've looked and looked...
