I will not go along with storyline directions I do not agree with beforehand. That is my trump power. Nothing is forcing me to participate here. Perhaps I am feeling kinda grumpy since I have been hurling for three days, but I am starting not to have fun here. When this stops being fun, I will stop posting. Then everyone can do whatever they feel like.
I'm fine with it. Heck, my bad guys are practically cheering :)

I'm sure they are. However, ooc Angel will not try and break JH and LJ up. The kiss was actually the only way to transfer Future JH's memories to him in our time.

Not unless you are trained to use Board Essence. In other words, someone with a certain Prestige Class.
When in doubt, if a post implies that Board Essence is being used offensively, assume that Board Essence is the same as force energy. That make sense? In other words: It go BOOM!
So the question is: How does one get training in board essence? Can anyone who posts here claim its power? Or are we putting limits on who can do what?
And about it being/not being 'a hugemongous blasting power no one can resist', both assumptions are incorrect. It will be as powerful a weapon as fire if used offensively, but it will be higher level and more difficult to master.
KC, perhaps I am explaining this incorrectly. I am just saying that I do not condone unique powers that force other people to do things in game. It's not fair.
You know what? I'm getting sick of explaining this. If you guys want to go and say that all my alias's spells are trump cards, and that clearly any unique ability is a 'hugemongous blasting power no one can resist', go right ahead. I'm sick of you guys ignoring my posts and continuing to say the same things over and over again. Go ahead, ban Board Essence. I'm getting tired of this arguing. |:(
I'm not trying to ignore you or belittle you KC. What I am trying to do is set up a predetermined set of rules that everyone who posts here can agree upon. If you want to use board power, that is fine. If you want to limit others from using it, or you want to say 'you can't touch me becasue I am using board power' that is NOT fine. Note I am NOT saying that you are saying these things, I am using this as an example. We need to delineate what this power does, that is all I am saying.

Okay, look. I am about to do:
The Comprehensive Guide to Board Essence!
Board Essence is a powerful element, which is nearly completely unknown except in its elemental plane (known as 'The Board'). It is commonly considered the most versatile, but it is generally not considered a very good substitute for another element, as it is not very powerful when used for something other than its primary use: Divination. However, it is oddly not often good when used outright for Divination, but rather indirectly. For example, it is actually very mediocre when used to determine where the Goddess is and what she is doing, but Board Essence could be channeled through Conjuration to summon a book which may have information on her habits or goals. It may also 'accidentally' bring something along which will have much to do with the subject at hand which the caster didn't think of.
There is also another, separate power which bears mention here: The Boardgods. These deities are very little-known, only to worshipers or researchers. They are the gods of Board Essence. For example, Esmerelda worships/worshiped the Boardmother, the goddess of protecting the Board. KC also serves this belief, as do most of his friends, as a member of a certain many-named organization, the Keepers of the Board. At any rate, these gods and this cause both grant spells to servants such as Wasp. Thus, a lot of spells which seem strange and new are really just, for example, a Cure Light Wounds spell granted by a Boardgod or the cause of the Keepers. That make sense so far? So if you see, say, 'Board Essence being channeled into the wound, sealing it', it isn't some new 'trump card' or spell or anything.
There are, however, a few spells which are unique and new. These are:
*Used multiple times by KC and Wasp, in combat
**Used by KC and Wasp to research about Candle Lighter, The Mask, The Goddess, etc. It's where they summoned books
***Remember that incident with the Archpope or whatever? When KC tried to dispel him? Ah, those were the days....*rambles*
****How did you think I could remember all that stuff?
*****Used by Wasp, Plant, and Jay Frogskin. Remember when they kept 'talking to themselves', shortly after KC's death?
(stats may come sometime, not sure. Please tell me if you can think of any others which have been used)
This could be bigger, so anybody who needs to know more, tell me.

I have to go pick up the kid from school. Be back in about a half hour, maybe less. WJ can feel free to kill Izkemina, and I think my other baddies are either dead, dying, or off the board for a little bit.
Edit: Oh, and for goodness sake, don't forget to blow up the records room when you leave :)
No prob. JH means to tear the room down brick by brick
| lynora |
Hmmm. I seem to have hit a snag. I was going to take this little sacrificial party (no I'm not trying to kill my character, she's supposed to get rescued) over to the RPG thread. It's going to take a while for them to do the rituals to remove LJ's divine protections and resurrect the goddess. Killing LJ is the very lastest step.
However, there appears to be a battle there that never got wrapped up. It's been going very, very slowly. I don't want to step on anyone's toes with this, but I need somewhere to take my storyline. Thoughts?

Patrick:
I just stopped by with a brief post on the RPG thread, in case there's an idea there you want to play off of with Ebony Jaguar and Innocent Blood.
Cool I'll take a looksee :)
EDIT: I'm not sure what you are aiming for. Innocent Blood is empowered by the book being split? I can work with that, though she is still somewhere else at the moment...

I was thinking of it as an archetypal twist... in stopping one problem, the heroes of the piece inadvertantly create another problem, potentially more serious than the first.
And it's apparent to me that the Ebony Jaguar is a mastermind with plans of some sort, and that Innocent Blood (or at least it was the impression I got) is one of his mosted trusted aides/lieutenants. I think he was hinting earlier that this recent goddess business wasn't much to him, and so my thought is 'what if it was just a means to an end?', that end being getting back a more useful tool/ally who has been stuck for a long time in a book that only the forces of good can break open.Sort of like (warning, Shackled City spoiler!):

Hmm, not a bad idea. Indeed, I throttled Ebony Jaguar back this round since the Records Room look as if it would take precedence. That is a good idea, thanks for the idea! Perhaps Innocent Blood will have to make an appearance soon...
| Patrick Curtin |
Yeah, I moved up my timetable on the Records Room considerably in order to get the game moving forward again. I don't think I lost anything from the story though, so I'm happy enough.
No it worked fantastic! I think we all did a great job of weaving plotlines together. My only regret was that I've been feeling so junky during the last few days.
As Ebony Jaguar likes to say: Death is patient...

OK: Flower in the Palace of Skulls: What is going on here? It seems to be destroying all the undead there. I still have not gotten any input as to its story function.
Huh? No, sorry, those spirits were of the souls of Plantjack, Wasp, and all those others. The flower weakened the wards which the Mask had set to trap them there. It will also keep undead from going near it. It doesn't destroy, though.

I was just thinking that I wih I had stats for all these characters, particularly the villains. I woul;d love to run my players through this exciting and interesting experience.
Well, I can get stats done for Ash pretty easily. But the bookkeeper is kinda tricky since I was pretty much just making stuff up for her. I can try.

Well, Ebony Jaguar is kinda a sketch on a vampiric lich idea I had for another game, basically Cleric/Wizard/Necromancer/Mystic Theurge/Shadowcaster kinda deal. Very epic. Really a 'BBEG mob boss' kinda guy, at the end of a story arc.
Innocent Blood is an ancient aasimar vampire. Tragic story, young sweet girl turned to undeath and becomes foulest of the foul. Oh and she can do blood magic, like the old Vampire Games. I'd give her martial arts and two-weapon fighting skills. She carries two matched katanas with lots of ancillary enchantments. Oh and a ring that lets her walk around in daylight (and shields her from any sun-imitating magic).
The Steel Tsar is basically a fiendishly-powered construct with lots of armor, buzzsaw hands and a bad attitude. A 'tank' if you will...
Dread Lord Wendigo is a fiendish yeti, probably lots of ranger levels. Strong, sneaky, not so bright.
| Patrick Curtin |
Well I would think Alaina is going to be pretty annoyed, and Calistria is a deity of revenge amongst other things, although Innocent Blood will have known that and yet went ahead anyway, so apparently she's not too worried about it.
Oh yeah, when Alaina wakes up she's gonna be pissed!

She won't be the only one who's pissed, especially after what The Mask did afterward... ;)

Well, duh, his biggest 'flaw' is that he refuses to lose. It can be both good and bad. He will always try to come out on top, and if that means taking the bodies from a ritual, then he'll take them and spend ages trying to determine the exact proper way to make use of them in a way that will show that he is smarter and more powerful than everyone else. He isn't arrogant, he's just a sore loser.
| Charles Evans 25 |
I'm currently keeping the Eighth Runelord mostly out of things, although he's worrying about much larger future events of which Innocent Blood and Ebony Jaguar may only be a foreshadowing. Goblins may occasionally randomly show up to sing rhymes (it's the only way he can get them to remember things) or be silly.
At present the other aliases are likely to stay out of things. The Eighth Runelord will take it as a very serious Omen of Doom if I post with the flame troll alias again, but I have no intention of introducing complications like that to Patrick's current story-arc.
Would non-runelord aliases please not stray into the Roundtable unless it is for something serious or the alias is expendable? Archmages on their home ground seem to me to be reasonable assumptions for a win if things turn nasty.
| lynora |
Yeah, it's always cryptic prophecies around here, Charles. The goblin fits right in :)
Just to let you know, since she's asking for advice, LJ is going to get her cleric abilities back eventually. Her connection to SunnyG is permanently severed, and the trauma from that was so big that she is having trouble looking at what happened too closely. So she doesn't realize that she doesn't actually need someone else to grant her spells. She already has them. Hence her great-grandfather's ruse with the bow. He's trying to trick her into accepting that she has the ability to do what she needs without any divine intervention.

I considered that when creating the Runelord of Uncaring, but then I saw the shock lizard avvy and realized I couldn't let it go to waste.
Just so everyone knows, he has very versatile powers. He can practically change his powers on a whim, to a small extent. However, he's very weak, and he will always lose interest in the new powers pretty quick. The only thing he always sticks to is his preference for words which high-pitched syllables. He also likes rhymes.| Charles Evans 25 |
Umm, sort of middle... the Midlands in fact. :D
With regard to the current story arc going on, once Alaina calms down, you could probably run it for a week or two, with the heroes trying to analyse the situation and discover just what happened, what they're up against, and how to deal with it (fighting skirmishes against other sides in various locations) as they unearth 'new' pieces of information, building Serafina's (and maybe Ebony Jaguar's) back-stories as they go.
Or they could just charge straight in.
