Rogue / Cleric gish

3.5/d20/OGL

I'm going to be playing a cleric of Olidimarra soon, and so I'm trying to find a prestige class that combines the abilities of a cleric and a rogue, particularly decent spell casting and 6 or more skills per level. I checked out Divine Prankster, but they appear to be more focused on Bard abilities. Any ideas?

Have a look at the Temple Raider of Odimarra from Complete Divine, though it is more of a Rogue with a small amount of Cleric Spells.

Now for my question....what does the word Gish mean???

Gish is/was orginally a githyanki term for mage-warriors. It used by players when ever they make similar characters (Wiz/Ftr/EK or Sor/Pal/EK to keep it core).

I eventually settled on Fortune's Friend from Complete Scoundrel. :-)

That's a fun class. I DM for a duskblade/swashbuckler/fortune's friend. It lets him make horrible tactical errors (kick the door in!)and then use the luck re-rolls to get out of trouble.

The Exchange

I decided that the only time that I'm going to be able to (easily - without a headache) play a cleric/rogue is when the DM finally lets us Gestalt. Cloistered Cleric/Rogue here I come!(eventually....)

It may be too late by this point, but you and your DM might want to take a look at the Shadowbane Stalker in the Complete Adventurer - specifically the suggestions for adapting it. So far, it is the only WotC prestige class that I've seen which specifically mixes Cleric with Rogue.

The spellcasting progression is 8/10 (of a pre-existing divine spellcasting class - not any "separate spell list" nonsense). They use d8 for hit points, get 6+Int skill points, and have good Reflex and Will saves. And there are some nifty class features.

So, you're about to start a new character...and you're already picking out your prestige class?

What if your character encounters a sincere challenge to their faith? What if they somehow end up foregoing the cloth altogether down the line in favor of the law of the sword?

Does your GM allow you to just "pick" a prestige class"

Wow....

Obviously, different groups have different play styles. There is no need to turn up the sarcasm on that account.

There's no problem with that, so long as it's to make an unusual combination work or RP reasons. Straight rogue/clerics (or anything/spellcaster) are terrible at high levels. They lose out on the higher level spells and the ability to hit things, and their low HD means that they have terrible HP (although cleric levels would help with that.) If they later want to change their mind, there's no reason that they can't. However, I do have a problem with "OK, so I'm taking 3 levels of fighter, 4 of barbarian, and then frenzied berserker followed by exotic weapon master and dip into witch hunter for 2 levels for the saves and mettle, and then...."

Ever since seeing the two Shadowbane PrCs I always wanted to play one. They seem to have a lot of flavor and function. The artwork for them paints a nice picture too.
