OK - I've had my first skim through of the adventure and it looks like it should be fun. However I have had some bad news today (only temporary and I promise not indicative of my reliability...)

My wife and I are having a week's holiday starting this weekend - I had expected my posting would be uninterrupted, however we are going to an extremely remote town in the Australian outback - where we are staying has no internet connection (not even dialup :/).

What that means is that I'm still keen to run this PBP but I wont be able to make the first post until Sunday 1st March (next week). After that, I will be checking the thread at least twice a day and there should be no hiccups into the future. Hopefully everyone is happy to wait for one more week..?

No need to apologize and I am totally jealous. With freezing temperatures here in New Jersey I could dig a week of warm weather out in the country. Have fun and don't worry, we'll be here when you get back.

1st of March is fine with me. It'll give me some time to make decisions about what to do with Douena. I think I ought at least to raise her Charisma for the extra channelling....

OK - the game will officially begin on the 1st of March (my time - I think that might be late on Saturday the 28th of February for those of you in the US).

In the interim, you are all agents or at least friends of the Pathfinders who have been asked to meet at the Sothis chapterhouse. I will be away from computers within the next twenty four hours or so. Would you like me to start a thread in the PBP section where you can introduce yourselves to each other until I get back from holiday? Or would people prefer to wait until we can begin the adventure in earnest?

We might as well be productive while you are gone and get ourselves acquainted with each other so I recommend going ahead and opening the thread up.

Sure, I'll second that.

Here is the game thread, you are gathering at the Sothis Pathfinder lodge to meet with the local venture captain who has contacted each of you individually with an offer of mounting a sponsored expedition into a recently discovered pyramid.

Jalden Krenshar - the venture captain, will be there on March the 1st...in the meantime, enjoy each other's company.

Just wanted to note that I changed up Douena's stats, dropping her Dex a bit to raise her Cha for the channelling. If the DM wants to take a look at her profile and make sure I adjusted everything that needs adjusting, please do, and enjoy your vacation!

off to the Campaign Setting to read up a bit on Osirion before I begin posting

This might be a good time to ask how exactly I do that link to dice rolls that I've seen in PbP threads....?

Create an account at www.invisiblecastle.com. After that, the rolling process should be fairly easy/self-explanatory, and then when you need to link your rolls, just copy the url from the top of that browser window and paste it into some [url] code tags.

Thanks! Think I got it.

A couple of comments. First, the inevitable "how's it going for everyone?" question. Pacing ok? Although I have limited experience, so far that's my principle problem running PBP games - you don't know if people arent posting because they havent read the last posts or because they're waiting for more guidance...

Off-topic. I'm enjoying this group a lot - you all seem to have reasonably compatible timezones and posting styles. My Copy of Legacy of Fire - Episode One (Howl of the Carrion King) is currently winging it's way towards Australia. I'm toying with the idea of running a third PBP. Would there be any interest from any of the five of you in starting another? (I'm not 100% convinced I will yet, but just to test the waters. It doesnt bother me if you are also a subscriber to the AP.)

Good, I'm liking, I tend to be around the boards three times a day though, before work, lunchtime, and all evening, just because the laptop is on and sat next to me, so I tend to be quite a frequent poster.... :)

Yeah, me too, it's great fun, and I'm loving the way the halflings/gnomes are playing, they are great fun.

I would *love* to play in LoF....

I'm having a blast so far and I can usually post pretty frequently. I'm on the internet pretty much all day at work so you'll notice me posting at all times of the day (except late at night when I'm sleeping).

If you decide to run the Legacy of Fire ap then I would definitely be interested.

Ooh, Legacy of Fire yes, please! I'm a subscriber, but I've held off on reading it because I was hoping I could get in a PbP. My RL group's just started Second Darkness so it will be months before we start a new AP; by then, Council of Thieves will be out, and we'll probably skip straight to that.

As for Osirion, I'm enjoying it a lot! I've played with basically the same group my whole gaming career, and it gets to the point where you know what everyone else is going to do in a situation, no matter what character they're playing. It's fun having things being a little less predictable!

In a slightly different vein; As our characters are supposed to be keeping diaries for the Pathfinders? Who plans to?

I for one am thinking hard about it, and will be posting up a thread in the Campaign Journals forum once the first day finally comes to a close....Anyone want to join me?

Female awww, but that would be telling unknown

I would be possibly interested in LoF, but not until well after I get my two PBPs up and running :) Getting those off the ground is taking a lot more time than I thought it would. Of course that might have something to do with the insanity of starting two at once... :) My husband says (jokingly, of course) that I have a strict limit of no more than 10 active PBPs at a time and I'm currently at 7...

Oh, cool! I've been thinking about what Douena's journal might end up being like. I'm picturing lots of little stick-figure drawings and majoring on the minorest of events....

I can understand - I only dipped my toe in the water a few months ago and am surprised at how much time DMing a PBP takes. (I was a little more circumspect than you though - I'm only up to 5 games so far).

Legacy of Fire game will be a couple of weeks away at least (it's still in transit and I like reading books on paper rather than online). I'll check who's still interested and hasnt started one elsewhere (I'm sure there's about to be a rash of them) - if we have some gaps, I'll post on the gamer connection forum.

Shouldn't Golem be back soon? I hate to leave the tent without Kimu. He's the intelligent character of the party and might have questions and/or insights.

For those of you who are interested, I received my copy of Howl of the Carrion King today (Legacy of Fire - chapter one). I'm just paging through it now... :)

As I mentioned a few days ago, I'm not going to get a chance to run this on paper for some years, so would like to try in PBP format - the five of you would all be welcome to take a spot if you wish. I'll give you a week or so to say yes or no, then advertise for any vacancies and start a discussion thread. Let me know if you want a place (I won't be offended if not and the J1 game will continue as is, I'm just looking to add another)

I'm in! Been looking forward to it, and haven't done more than flip through my copy to look at the pictures before putting it on the shelf. I'm thinking either a barbarian or sorceror/elemental bloodline (assuming we're running Beta rules).

Excellent - one spot taken and three or four to go. And yes I am planning on running the Beta rules.

Female awww, but that would be telling unknown

I'm most likely in, but I don't have any of the LoF stuff. Still, how hard can it be? I'm in an Eberron game without ever having read an Eberron book, and a Planescape game with never having read any of that setting either :) At least I know some stuff about Golarion :) I won't have time to make a character for a few days yet at least, so if that's going to be a problem than I can bow out.

I may like to do a campaign journal as well.

Ah, I would love to jump in on a second game DM'ed by Monty Haul, but unfortunately my life this summer is going to be quite frazzled, as I am moving cross-country and will be basically an itinerant bum from about May until August. Needless to say, this will probably throw a giant monkey-wrench in my PbP activity, and I am sorry about that. I'll let you know how I think Kimu's participation in J1 will be affected as May gets closer. I should have internet access during the transition, but able to post every day, I will not be. :(

Sometimes it can be fun to go into a game knowing nothing or next to nothing. The sense of discovery becomes much wider! ;)

Second spot most likely filled. I dont think a delay is a problem, it usually takes a week or so for everyone to get characters together, etcetera. I'll pencil you in for now, anyhow.

No trouble at all with scaling back your participation in J1 for a while. If you're happy for me to DMPC you when things stall, I dont think there'll be any problem - you just might miss the occasional opportunity and/or discover I've made you do something you'd rather not have.

(I work on a rough "one post a day" expectation, but it's hardly set-in-stone, more a guideline so everyone knows what's happening if I suddenly move things along before you've all responded to some situation).

Terrific - looks like we'll have a full group (presuming aaron is still interested and lynora doesnt get consumed by DM duties). I'll start a discussion thread for character concepts, and so on. It'll be a couple of days away though - I still have to read the first instalment.

Golem - if things change and you think you'll be able to work something out, you'd still be very welcome, of course.

Decisions Decisions.....

Hey Guys and Gals,

I hate to be a pain but I am going to have to drop out. I just found out that I will definitely have to find a new job come July so between work, job hunting, and a couple of weddings to go to this month I am not going to be able to participate. I apologize for this but I don't want to hold you guys anymore. I'll post this in the character thread as well.

Sorry,
Aaron

:(

We've lost Allovin, Kimu is gone until August at least.

Do we still have Elysia?

Steve, if you want to look for a replacement player or two, my husband can play. He has a Paizo account, and I can insist he keeps up with his posting. :)

That sounds like a good plan - I'm pretty sure Lynora is still around. I hope so anyway, this group is one of my favorites - especially given you're all unknown players to me, so you keep doing things I wouldnt expect. :) If he's interested, that would be a neat solution.

Cool! We went out to dinner tonight while the kids stayed with my mom so we actually got to have a conversation, and I told him we were losing Allovin. He was thinking about playing a half-elf desert ranger: Maybe the Pathfinders contact him to lead us into the desert? (Assuming we ever make it out of Sothis, that is.)

That will work fine - he'll certainly be a Pathfinder agent. Probably due to arrive any second with some information for you from the Mithral Scarab, in fact...

Husband is wondering if he can use the Sandwalker feat from the LoF player's guide?

Joana wrote:

Sure.

Husband is over on the couch with the Beta right now. I'm hopeful he'll have his character done tonight -- tomorrow night at the latest. He's wondering if he can buy some deserty equipment from the LoF Player's Guide. (We don't have the Osirion Companion.)

Joana wrote:

Sounds great - he's about to arrive with the venture captain and some useful information.

BTW - I can't tell you how jealous I am. My wife is a mad Harry Potter/Lord of the Rings/Terry Goodkind/etcetera fan. She talks about Dementors as if they're just about to knock at the front door, explains that if I was...something-or-other I'd be able to talk to snakes and regularly recounts which magical solution would be just right for getting us through traffic.... Yet somehow I can't persuade her to play 'silly games' with me and my friends on a Wednesday night. *sigh*

M Half-elf Ranger 1

Character is still under construction, but here are the bare bones. Will be putting up more info over the next several hours.

Male Humanly Awesome 'n Totally Rockin' Paladin of Greatness

Any chance I can use the Enhanced Companion(Ex) for the ranger in the campaign setting?
Also, since there isn't a MM for PF, the camel has alertness for a feat which for 3.5 is ok but for PF is half worthless. Was wondering if I could replace that feat with another feat or would you just prefer I replace with skill focus perception?
Also, does the companion get a feat every odd level(hit die) as per PF rules?

Hi Javell - your ranger looks good, thanks for getting him together so quickly. I'm not sure how Archon Adept calculated our hit points but I'm going to go with giving you 51:

10 for first level + 5 x 7 + 6 for con

Assuming you've used your 'favored class' bonus on skills. If you wish you can use those on hit points instead. To answer your other queries:

Javell wrote:

Sure - although note you have to switch out wild empathy in exchange.

Javell wrote:

I'd prefer the skill focus perception exchange. Makes sense to me.

Javell wrote:

Seems reasonable to me, so I'll say yes without thinking too hard about it...

Male Humanly Awesome 'n Totally Rockin' Paladin of Greatness

Thanks! That'll help. I'll try to not to bombard with so many questions next time but I better not make any promises cuz you never know.

Character is up, including animal companion. Used 2 favored class points for hp, 4 for skill points.

My other half says about your animal companion "let's hope he doesn't get the hump!" te he.

Looks cool...Welcome to the game...

If it’s all the same with you, I’m not going to dwell particularly deeply on where Allovin has wandered off to, nor on Kimu’s protracted absence. Either may potentially return at some point so I’ll just leave it open for now. Similarly, Javell – your arrival is going to be somewhat abrupt in the interests of story-momentum. Feel free to invent as much or as little background as you wish – and welcome to the game, thanks for filling in. :)
