Goodluck |
Recalling the nightmare the Queen subjected him to, Goodluck decided on some vengeance.
Running up behind Caelin, he scowled across the room at the Queen. "You can sing dis time, witch!"
Use Punitive Transformation revelation on the Queen...hoping to turn her into an albatross. It's a 40ft range, and as a supernatural ability it isn't subject to spell resistance.
Alarien |
Alarien follows after Caelin (move to M20), invoking her goddess again in a prayer for the strength to carry out her vengeance. "Savored Sting, grant us vengeance upon our foes!" Cast Prayer.
HP 57/57 (+13 temp.); AC 19; Barkskin +2, 30 minutes; Bull's Strength, 8 minutes; Mirror Image, 8 minutes; Aid (1d8 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 13 temp. hp), 8 minutes; Divine Favor 1 minute; Master's Illusion 1/8 rounds, prayer 1/8 rounds; inspire courage +2
GM JaceDK |
Rhoswen Will save vs DC 19: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15
The queen lets slip a sharp cry of dismay as Goodlucks magic penetrates her innate resistance and begins to transform her. But her outburst turns to cruel and mocking laughter as she fights off the effect and stands tall, emerald eyes glittering with fury and malice.
"Trying to beat me at my own game, cripple? I shall save a special perch for you among my many pets." She gestures to the caged birds all around you, and you can only shudder at the thought of how many of them were once sentient creatures who invoked the queens wrath.
Meycho to come off delay, then on to round 3
GM JaceDK |
Alarien caster level check to overcome SR: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (14) + 8 = 22
Goodluck Fort save vs baleful polymorph: 1d20 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 5 + 1 = 26
Goodluck Will save vs baleful polymorph: 1d20 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 5 + 1 = 17
Air elemental slam attack: 1d20 + 9 - 1 ⇒ (2) + 9 - 1 = 10
Air elemental slam damage: 1d6 + 3 - 1 ⇒ (4) + 3 - 1 = 6
- Storming the Fellnight Throne -
"Sing, then!" the Queen commands of Goodluck, and intones the words of a spell.
Goodluck feels the Queen's foul magic take hold of him, but before it can harm him, he senses the power of Gozreh rush up from the living plants surrounding him, penetrating even this remote demi-plane to protect his chosen vessel. Nice time to roll a natural 20 on your Fort save.
Rhoswen's displeasure at her spells failure is plain to see. Without a word, she steps into the thorny column beside her, as easily as if she had brushed through a silk curtain, and vanishes from sight.
The shadowy air elemental rushes towards Caelin and swings a fist, but the alert ranger blocks the blow with hardly any effort.
Round 3
Initiative:
Rhoswen - 22 (acted)
Caelin - 18
Goodluck - 15
Taecuss - 12
Alarien - 11
Meycho - 10
Caelin Nyndel |
Caelin cursed in frustration as the Queen disappeared. He turned on the air elemental that had come up beside him.
He whistled Aumgwe into a flanking position and released his anger, hacking furiously.
"You! Are! Not! Who! I'm! Looking! For!"
+1 Cold Iron Greatsword PA, inspired and otherwise buffed: 1d20 + 12 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 12 + 2 = 30
damage: 3d6 + 16 ⇒ (5, 3, 2) + 16 = 26
attack 2: 1d20 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 7 + 2 = 24
damage2: 3d6 + 16 ⇒ (1, 1, 4) + 16 = 22
GM JaceDK |
The air elemental howls, and once Caelin's furious onslaught subsides, only thin wisps of smoke remain.
Goodluck |
He saw a set of stairs to the north, which led up, and a set of stairs to the south, which led down. He heard music coming from the stairs leading down, as if a party was going on down below.
He could just hear distant shouts of alarm, but it did not sound like any enemies were in the immediate vicinity.
That would surely change soon.
Raising his hands and scanning for the Queen, he said "She might have fled to her friends. Maybe there is something here we can hurt to weaken her? Like the mirror?"
Ready Punitive Transformation for the reappearance of the Queen, only.
GM JaceDK |
I'm a little uncertain as to peoples intentions and actual actions. Alarien, do you move up to the mirror and immediately start smashing it? And if you are switching swords, you need to spend a move action putting away the one you're holding, and you can then draw the feybane while moving up to the mirror (although I kinda assumed you had the feybane drawn already). Goodluck, and anyone else looking for the queen, roll perception.
GM JaceDK |
The ornate mirror measures 4 feet in diameter, framed in gold and embellished with silver. The frame depicts dozens of stylized eyes from fey creatures that alternately open and close in wakefulness or slumber.
Roll an attack if you wish to smash it.
While searching for the queen, both Goodluck and Caelin notice that all of the pillars have tiny holes around their circumference at about eye level.
GM JaceDK |
Alarien's blade hits the mirror with a resounding clang that echoes throughout the throne room. When she inspects the mirror, she can't find the tiniest scratch or crack.
GM JaceDK |
Is it Meycho's turn?
It is. I have poked him, but he seems to have forgotten again. Actually, since he chose to spend some of the time he could have used to post an update today on keeping my wife company on her lunch break, I can hardly fault him. Instead, I'll just make an educated guess at how he would spend his turn and move us along.
Faced with ample proof of the Queens wicked nature, Meycho employs some of his divine powers in an attempt to determine her hiding place, so she can face her just punishment.
Meycho activates his detect evil ability and focuses on the columns, trying to determine if the queen is indeed hiding inside one. On his first round, he detects a clear presence of a powerful evil somewhere within the room.
GM JaceDK |
Goodluck Fort save vs baleful polymorph: 1d20 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 5 + 1 = 20
- Storming the Fellnight Throne -
Suddenly, from inside one of the columns in the north-west of the room, everyone hear the sound of the queen speaking the same enspelling phrases as before - and just as before, Goodluck feels the transformative magic attempt to trap him in bird form, but fail. The queen lets out a shriek of pure, hateful frustration before becoming silent once more.
Round 4
Initiative:
Rhoswen - 22 (acted)
Caelin - 18
Goodluck - 15
Taecuss - 12
Alarien - 11
Meycho - 10
Taecuss dyn Bru |
Move to J20, maintaining his performance as he does.
And it is a longshot, but Taecuss casts Suggestion.
"Come out of hiding and let us see the glory of your personage! Surely the mighty Fellnight Queen needn't conceal herself to deal with the likes of us, and we have earned the right to gaze upon you with our bold folly!"
DC 16 will save. If she has spell resistance, SR attempt 1d20 + 8 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 8 + 2 = 24
Edit: With no target to use it on, the True Strike he cast last round fades away.
For all allies:Inspire Courage:+2 morale bonus vs. charm and fear effects, and a +2 competence bonus on attack and weapon damage rolls.
Hit points 59/59, Spells available: five 1st, three 2nd, two 3rd, 21 rounds of performance.
See Invisible, Ant Haul, Longstrider, Protection from Evil, Fly
Caelin Nyndel |
Caelin attempts to find out if he can spot which column the Queen might be in now. He squaks to Aumgwe to seek the Queen.
Caelin Perception vs. Fey: 1d20 + 19 ⇒ (12) + 19 = 31
Aumgwe Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (15) + 9 = 24
Let me know if I know where she is.
GM JaceDK |
Taecuss, you can't cast a targeted spell at someone you can't see or touch. You may change your action.
Scanning the room with his sharp elven eyes, Caelin spots the faintest flicker of motion behind the tiny holes in the column next to Alarien.
The column where Caelin thinks he saw movement is L23. While inside the columns, the queen is treated as if she had total cover.
Caelin Nyndel |
Caelin stepped over to the column he believed held the Queen and began hacking away with his sword.
"I think she's in here!"
Either standard or full attacks on the tree, depending on whether the perception check cost me an action. If it's possible to stick my sword through one of the eye holes, I guess I could do that.
+1 Cold Iron Greatsword PA, inspired and otherwise buffed: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (12) + 12 = 24
damage: 3d6 + 16 ⇒ (6, 6, 5) + 16 = 33
attack 2: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10
damage2: 3d6 + 16 ⇒ (5, 5, 4) + 16 = 30
+4 to each of these if I end up targeting the Queen, or the trees are somehow fey.
Taecuss dyn Bru |
My bad; I thought if she could hear my voice, it would work. Thanks for the do over.
Continuing his bardic performance, Taecuss advances into the room and readies another scroll.
Move to K22 and ready another scroll of True Strike.
Goodluck |
Goodluck saw Caelin hacking on the column and hustled over to get a better look.
I want to look in either any holes Caelin has made, or through the eye holes to see if I can see the Queen, and thus target her.
GM JaceDK |
Rhoswen Will save vs DC 19: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20
Looks like we are headed for another round of ret-cons, so hold on to your hats. Also, the streak of epic saves vs polymorph continues.
Caelin steps up to the column and with a single slash, he cuts away a large section of the living wood, revealing Queen Rhoswen inside the hollow interior. Still partially melded with the wood, the queen ducks away from Caelin's second stroke, which hits only wood.
The queen is now visible, and can be targeted with attacks and spells, although she has cover. This triggers Goodluck's readied action, and he casts his Punitive Transformation on the queen.
Goodluck once again tries to trap the queen in bird form, but just as he has twice resisted her spells, she withstands his efforts a second time. This time, though, she has no snappy comment in reply.
Since the situation is now drastically different, Taecuss and Alarien may redo their turns.
Alarien |
Alarien rethinks quickly as their foe becomes visible, instead moving to strike at the fey queen.
Move to K22 or L24 or wherever I can attack her from, preferably while flanking, and attack.
1d20 + 16 ⇒ (5) + 16 = 21
If she can 5-foot-step into position and make a full attack: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (6) + 11 = 17
+2 if she can flank Rhowen.
1d8 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14
1d8 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13
GM JaceDK |
Even with Caelin menacing the Queen from the other side, Alarien fails to hit her.
Tae, true strike is still good.
Taecuss dyn Bru |
Remembering the importance of the staff, Taecuss tries to wrest it from her. In an attempt that would be impossible without the guidance of powerful magic, Taecuss lashes out with his whip, trying to get it around the staff so he can pull it away.
Disarm attempt 1d20 + 6 + 20 ⇒ (20) + 6 + 20 = 46
If successful, he calls out "Meycho, get it!", pointing to the staff.
GM JaceDK |
In a stroke worthy of legend, Taecuss lashes out and his whip wraps itself tightly around the gnarled staff. With a sharp tug, Taecuss yanks it out of the Queen's grasp, sending it clattering down to the bottom of the hollow column.
GM JaceDK |
Swift as a fox, Meycho darts forward and reaches into the broken column, snatching up the ancient staff before the Queen can reclaim it. He can almost feel the powerful magic within thrum as he holds it in his grasp.
Separate post for the beginning of next round coming up.
GM JaceDK |
Rhoswen Concentration: 1d20 + 16 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 16 + 4 = 35
Caelin Fort Save (prayer + bear's endurance): 1d20 + 10 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 10 + 1 + 2 = 22
- Storming the Fellnight Throne -
Queen Rhoswen eyes her staff with burning desire, but she seems to realize that attempting to reclaim it while surrounded by enemies would be folly. Instead, she turns her attention to the elven ranger who found her and cut her hiding place open with such ease.
"Your elven eyes see too much, Caelin Nyndel!" she exclaims, her words laden with dark power.
For a brief moment, Caelin feels his vision fail, but then he grits his teeth and focuses his fury, and the throne room appears again. Caelin, I figured your current Fort save to +13 (with prayer and bear's endurance. If this is not correct, please let me know.
Dismayed at yet another failure, Rhoswen fades into the tree, disappearing from sight.
Round 5
Initiative:
Rhoswen - 22 (acted)
Caelin - 18
Goodluck - 15
Taecuss - 12
Alarien - 11
Meycho - 10
Caelin Nyndel |
spellcraft: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7
My Fort save is total of +10: +6 (ranger), +2 (Protection from Evil) and +2 (Con with Bear's endurance). No other situational bonuses apply unless that spell was an enchantment, charm, illusion or fear effect (which is probably isn't given the required Fort save).
GM JaceDK |
Ah, the rare treat of a player who updates his sheet to reflect active buffs. With a roll of 9, a 19 on the Fort save is still enough to make it, so no need to retcon anything.
Caelin Nyndel |
"Ha!" Caelin cheered as Meycho grabbed the staff.
He blinked and shook his head as the Queen tried to curse him.
"Aaaaaagh! he shouted as she disappeared again. "I'll find you again! I'll tear down this whole hall!"
Perception vs. Fey: 1d20 + 19 ⇒ (1) + 19 = 20
Aumgwe Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (15) + 9 = 24
GM JaceDK |
This time, Caelin is unable to spot any signs of the Queen.
Caelin Nyndel |
Frustrated, and still blinking his eyes, Caelin runs to another column and slams it with his sword, hoping to either find the Queen through luck or ruin a column as a hiding place.
Move to I20 and attack northwest column
Greatsword: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (10) + 12 = 22
damage: 3d6 + 16 ⇒ (2, 1, 2) + 16 = 21
Goodluck |
"You'll not hide from us forever, you glorified pixie. Gozreh will have his revenge for the way you've perverted our world."
perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11
Scan the room and ready another Punitive Transformation if the Queen can be found. Sill aiming for albatross. :-)
Taecuss dyn Bru |
Step to L23 and say "Meycho, the staff!" If Meycho is willing, Taecuss will take the staff from him and begin the process of understanding its power, hoping there is something he can use against the dark queen.
So, 5' step, move action to take the staff, standard action to identify the staff (takes three rounds, so one of three), free action to maintain the performance.
For all allies: Inspire Courage:+2 morale bonus vs. charm and fear effects, and a +2 competence bonus on attack and weapon damage rolls.
Hit points 59/59, Spells available: five 1st, three 2nd, two 3rd, 20 rounds of performance.
