Thanks much, UberDMench- I tend to find it helpful in framing not only Jonas' state of mind, but also helpful in determining what he should do next... whether he likes it or not. ;P

And on that pleasant note...

Darkfire vs. N17 1d20+7=22

Eldritch Blast vs. N17 (Ref) 1d20+3=22, Damage 1d10+5=12

"Feel my pain!"

Peering into the forbidding enclosure of the house interior once more, Jonas gives a slight start as Sunaj rushes back inside for the second time, firing off another of his eldritch blast- along with some other type of power; one to do with darkness, as befitting to the shadowy elements of drowkind.

Pausing to consider his dwindling options, Jonas thinks, "Even if I were craven enough to turn around and make a run for it should everyone else present fall victim to those Kidnappers, I'd not get very far...". The Kidnappers, who would stoop to kidnapping children and families, surely wouldn't turn down a chance to shoot a fleeing victim in the back. "Indeed, they would be just the sort of people to find it a sick and perverse pleasure in doing something like that", Jonas finds himself shuddering at that very thought.

"And even if, by some miracle of Ioun, I were lucky enough to avoid that- I've a sinking feeling that being held captive by those same Kidnappers would be far preferable fate to counting on the tender mercies and understanding of the Judge, Vice-Chamberlain, and the Nobleman if I were to return to them with nothing, not even my compatriots, to show for it", and that thought chilled Jonas deeper to the bone, in comparison to his party's present situation. "It seems I've no choice now, but to head on inside that house as well".

Looking expectantly at the Red Caps surrounding him, Jonas pauses to take a deep breath before addressing to them aloud. "Well, it would seem that if we're to get out of this relatively intact... some, ah, rash actions would have to be taken". Pointing into the doorway leading inside the Schultz dwelling, Jonas continues to speak with the Red Caps, "I intend to make a headlong rush into that house- from there, I'll try to deal with some of our enemies on the second floor."

"I just know I'm going to regret this", Jonas silently finishes that uncomforting thought to himself.

Will move adjacent to Isari at S-17, then use up my standard action to help him out of his daze. A Heal check for Isari to help him out of the daze. (1d20+1=13)

EDITED:

Sunaj strides forth and throws a green-black ball of energy striking the thugge square in the chest burning away clothing and the flesh beneath. The thugge looks down at his chest and begins laughing manically as his eyes lock on Sunaj‘s.

Galvan’s charging attack cleaves through one cultist‘s chest, his backswing hews deep into the chest of the second killing both instantly. Pausing slightly as he ponders a his combat strategy the minotaur smacks the butt of his axe into the mages mouth sending teeth and blood into the floor.

Guess that wasn't quite enough to help Isari...Going to use my action point to do another standard action then.

Jonas will try to aid the rest of the party in clearing out the kidnappers on the first floor by aiming at Daily Acid Arrow at the thug on M-17

Taking a deep breath, Jonas quickly moves past the doorway- half-expecting the worst to happen and not really in the position to notice if any of the Red Caps followed him inside. Jonas manages into place himself in position next to Isari without much incident. "So far, so good", Jonas thinks to himself.

Making an attempt to snap Isari out of his daze, Jonas is ultimately unsuccessful at it. Partly frustrated at his failure to do so and partly motivated by fear of an attack at any moment, Jonas makes a snap decision to attack one of the thugs on the first floor. "I'll see to the second floor assailants later", Jonas silently promises to himself.

Drawing deep into his own magical reserves, Jonas summons forth a lone arcane arrow- made entirely out of magically-shaped acid- and lets it loose to a thug that seems closest to at least one or two other fellow kidnappers but well away from Galvan or Thewl for fear of getting them in range of the inevitable splash that follows when the acid arrow hits an unfortunate target.

Initial roll with Acid Arrow on thug on 1st floor.(1d20+4=15, 2d8+4=12)

If a successful hit, then full damage plus ongoing acid damage of 5 that will need a save to end. In addition, all adjacent foes may be subject to a secondary attack.

If the arrow misses, then half damage plus ongoing acid damage of 2 that will need a save to end- and no secondary attacks.

Secondary attack on adjacent thug on M-16 and novice on N-17, if able to (1d20+4=12, 2d8+4=12, 1d20+4=23, 2d8+4=12), if applicable

Edited posting.

If Jonas is able to "fire upon" the thugs on the second floor from where he is at, he will cast his at-will spell of Ray of Frost upon the snakey man in black on the second floor at I-16.

Ray of Frost on 2nd floor man in black (1d20+4=6, 1d6+4=9)

Alternate plan
** spoiler omitted **

If not able to use the action point, then I offer my apologies and you can disregard this post, UberDMench

I edited my last post to include Sanaj's turn so it's your turn, you can do the alternate plan as your action and spend an action point to take another action.

Can everyone add what defense your attacks are against, i.e. attack = (AC or Ref or Fort or Will)+ special damage effects (radaint, necrotic, lightning, etc.)

Much appreciated, UberDMench. Unfortunately, it seems that I won't be able to edit my original post about helping out Isari. :(

May as well keep that post then and use the action point for the extra standard action of a daily attack with the acid arrow.

Sure thing. Jonas' defense are as follows:

Ac: 15
Fort: 13
Ref: 15
Will: 14

Not sure if he has any particular weakness against special damage effects other than being Human and being a Wizard.

Already used both dailies of Acid Arrow and Healing Word.

With Isari's quick action, Jonas is snapped back from his horrified reverie long enough to make a quick, rash, and perhaps even foolish decision- the wizard swings his arcane staff of defense implement at the thugge heedless of the fact that he would most likely do less damage than a mere mosquito bite to the thugge due to his less than stellar physical strength- and that would assume that he would even score a hit upon that thugge in the first place.

Almost inured by the all of past occurrences to hardly notice the head of the arcanist rolling idly about the floor, Jonas does indeed notice that the eerie red glow that had bathed the entire interior of the Schultz house in a ominous reddish tint was dying down once Galvan had dealt with the mage. Amidst the sickly glowing greenish-black afterhaze from Sunaj's eldritch blast, Jonas takes the opportunity to take his position nearby the staircase, taking care to find whatever cover can be afforded between the bannisters, before making his own attack on the mage at the second floor.

Moving to Q-14 and then using a standard action to cast his encounter spell, Grasping Shadows (illusion/psychic vs. will, burst 1 in 10 squares) at the mage on second floor at area I-16

Thewl (bloodied)
Galvan (bloodied)

Jonas moves to the foot of the stairs and castes his spell, The shadows around the mage and thugge next to him begin to grab and claw at them but other than a minor distraction the shadows have no effect.

The two thugges on the second floor fire their crossbows at the approaching mage. Both bolts strike Jonas, the first doing 6hp and the second doing 9hp for a total of 15hp damage.

The redcaps rush forward a little too late to protect Jonas from the bolts and form up in front of him.

The novice wildly swings his mace at Thewl; Thewl easily blocks the mace and notices oily liquid dripping from the mace’s spikes.

Isari is up.

updated map.

Male Human Swordmage/Wandering Swordmage 11

Isari rushes up the stairs to confront the thugs.

If I counted right, moving to J13 and marking the goon.

Isari runs up the staircase and engages one of the thugges.

The mage shouts out arcane words and engulfs Jonas and the Redcaps in a thunderclap that send the Redcaps to the floor and causes 12hp damage to Jonas, dazing him as well (save ends).

Updated map

Thewl and then Galvan are up.

Male Warforged Warlord 1

Thewl is tired of dealing with his cannon-fodder wants to get to the bottom of this nefarious villainy. He brings his sword high overhead and smashes it down on the novice.

Furious Smash v. Fort:1d20+10=12; damage: 5 hp and (if it hits) Galvan gets a +2 to hit the novice (on top of his flanking bonus).

Biting back a howl of pain, Jonas sways back against the force of the two crossbow bolts hitting home. Reaching out to the nearby bannisters, Jonas manages to balance himself as he leans up against the stairway. Noting the blood pouring from the rents in his finery, Jonas thinks to himself "I'll have to see to that mess".

The footsteps of the approaching Red Caps catches Jonas' attention and he looks up to give a wan smile to the both of them. Straining to mask the sharp pain from his voice, Jonas does his best to reassure the two Red Caps with a "I'm alright, I suppose..." while Isari rushes up the staircase past the two remaining Red Caps.

Already bloodied; might as well use the encounter power that I've been saving up for the occasion, the Staff of Defense power for +2 on defense vs. the mage's thunderburst power. ;)

The loud incantment of arcane power coming from up the stairs gives Jonas the split-second alert to raise up his Arcane Staff implement in defense. Moments later, a thunderous force buffets violently against the wizard and the two guarding Red Caps.

The Red Caps didn't even stand a chance as they fall from the merciless magical onslaught and Jonas finds himself hard-pressed to remain standing against such power. "So he can cast Thunderburst....", Jonas thinks to himself as he slowly starts to surcumb to the mage's latest attack.

Save versus daze. (1d20=9)

Assuming that he doesn't make the save, most likely Jonas will fall dying on the next round if not sooner- and that's why we don't agitate the dice-fairies. ;P
