Barbarian Optional Class ability (Hunter, Unearthed Arcana)

3.5/d20/OGL

I was just curious to see if anyone thought that this version of the barbarian might not have some wiggle room when it comes to alignment compared to straight barbarians. The option replaces rage with favored enemy and the ranger's weapon style . . .

Part of my interest in this is that I have a Shoanti paladin in my group that almost took a level of barbarian, but didn't want to give up his rage ability when he fully embraced LG as a paladin. Given that he's a paladin of Erastil, this version of the barbarian seems ideal if he wanted to pick up a level of it, but there isn't anything in the description about loosening the alignment restriction.

I'm thinking of allowing it, but I was curious to see what others thought about it.

I would allow it. Favored enemy and the ranger's weapon style are less powerful than the rage they replace and the flavor of a Shoanti paladin/barbarian is pretty cool.

I agree,

plus a character idea should always trump mechanical restrictions.
