The Ring of Animal Friendship is newly amazing now that the Feral Speech ability from Ultimate Magic allows some Wizards and Witches to talk to animals all day long without using a spell.
It's even better than a staff. One spell usable all day long at the character's caster level!
My question is can a spell be cast again to "renew" it before the duration expires?
In this context, if a character with that ring had a favorite charmed animal, could the ring be used before the charm duration expires to renew the duration?
(Whether or not the animal has grown to like the character or would flee at the first successful Will save is a distinct issue.)
I believe this is incorrect, but I'm checking on the rules forum real quickly here.
The item states that "On command, this ring affects an animal as if the wearer had cast charm animal, causing the animal to regard the wearer as a trusted friend." This is NOT as if the character uses their own caster level and save DCs, correct?
Instead, it is an at-will power with a save DC of 11? (first level spell, virtual wisdom 11, caster level 3)
