I'd like to see the barbarian given abilities that reflect their upbringing in wild environs in addition to the standard rage powers, trap sense and enhanced movement not withstanding. Perhaps some ambushing skill, natural poisons knowledge or resistance, survival enhancements, etc. There was more to Conan than just the red mists...

I disagree poison, it isn't that barbarian's are necessarily held to a code of honour, but in general would view such things as feeble, weakling, cowardly tricks.
Ambushing? isn't a skill, but a player contrived setup. If a player detects an enemy without being seen and setups up a trap to give them advantage in combat, then the players are rewarded with 1) less down time between combat because they took advantage of that, and 2) a dm granted xp bonus for being smart.
Now a skill related to ambushing might be a bonus to perception, since they are used to laying traps for foes, they are good at identifying them. Perhaps apply the trap sense bonus to perception to detect ambushes?
Resistance, and survival/track would be reasonable as well, maybe a resistance to cold equal to there dr, and some + to survival (but only in natural settings.)
Perhaps to bring the barbarian in line with Conan and Fafrhd they should receive there strength mod instead of their cha for using the diplomacy skill to woo maidens, who become overcome by their manly physics.
