Feat: Lunge

Skills and Feats

Clarification:
Does Lunge work like a Reach Weapon (NOT threatening the adjacent/normal area),
or does it work like Large Size does, threatening the normal area AND 5' beyond that?

(the second interpretation makes more sense and seems more reasonable, but should be clarified in the final version)

Seems pretty clear to me, it's similar to large creatures.

Reach weapons are an exception to the reach rules, not the norm.

If it can be 100% clear, it should.

Players don't need to be familiar with Monster rules to play the game,
but are more likely to be familiar with Reach Weapons.
It shouldn't be "assumed" knowledge that this would follow the rules for Monsters and not Reach Weapons, since Monsters are the "normal" rules and Reach Weapons are "exceptions".

It could also be clarified whether it applies to AoO's or not.

current:
You can increase the reach of your melee attacks by 5 feet by taking a –4 penalty to your AC until your next turn. You must decide to use this ability before any attacks are made.

me:
You can increase the reach of your melee attacks by 5 feet (also threatening your normal area) by taking a –4 penalty to your AC. Both effects apply until your next turn. You must decide to use this ability before any attacks are made.

...maybe 10 words longer.

I think it should only increase your reach when you make an attack, and therefore not affect your threatened area at all.

That was how the 3.5 version of it I've seen worked.
The wording is not very clear on it, currently.
(whether you only take the AC penalty until your next turn, or also the benefit)

If it doesn't give you AoOs in that extended area, it's not that much use at all. In particular, the inability to threaten more squares just drives fighters to spiked chain (ick) otherwise makes them too ignorable. As I said elsewhere, I want it to stack with Shall Not Pass, as well...
