If it can be 100% clear, it should.
Players don't need to be familiar with Monster rules to play the game,
but are more likely to be familiar with Reach Weapons.
It shouldn't be "assumed" knowledge that this would follow the rules for Monsters and not Reach Weapons, since Monsters are the "normal" rules and Reach Weapons are "exceptions".
It could also be clarified whether it applies to AoO's or not.

I think it should only increase your reach when you make an attack, and therefore not affect your threatened area at all.
If it doesn't give you AoOs in that extended area, it's not that much use at all. In particular, the inability to threaten more squares just drives fighters to spiked chain (ick) otherwise makes them too ignorable. As I said elsewhere, I want it to stack with Shall Not Pass, as well...
