I really liked the skill tricks in Complete Scoundrel. I get that they aren't OGL, but I'm wondering, what about them can't we use?

Is it the whole idea of buying little abilities with skill points?

Is it just the name?

What exactly is copyright protected? Anyone know?

What skill tricks are really good for is giving home to small, minor abilities that warrant a resource expenditure but aren't worthy enough to be made into feats. Though they would need to be expanded, they would go a long ways towards making the various feats about equal in power level, by relegating all the sub-standard feats to skill tricks.
