Im just getting back into the loop with school starting back up so I can do stuff here in Class can everyone who needs to the notes in word please let me know.
Thanks guys im glad you are enjoying the changes
Hello there,
First time I ever felt the need to post on these forums. However finally my game group is about to finish a long campaign and the DM is turning the reigns over to me. I have chosen the Runelords with much additions and changes to account for 8 PCs. It would obviously make my task much easier if I merely utilized the wheel chiseled by a vetran. If you have the time Joey, I would greatly appreciate you sending me your word doc. Am I correct in thinking you made changes to Karzhoug as well? My email is sharrasfire at sbcglobal dot net (no spaces in the email address).lord_orpheus |
I just started Burnt Offerings on Tuesday and your additions definitely helped. They just captured Tsuto in the Glassworks factory and now, I'm leading them into the Catacombs of Wrath. They keep insisting to follow Shuala, the elf ranger, but I manage to deter them.
I would love to be sent everything when you get the chance. :)

Wow. Thanks Joey.
I'm about to start ROTR:BO this Sunday (so excited). You just took one task off my plate with these lists. I'm definitely using them! Will let you know how it goes.
I was kinda surprised your stuff wasn't listed in the Forum Created Stuff thread.
Hrm. Considering the amount of stuff I've taken off these forums (this, Forum Created Stuff, spell cards, Converting ROTRL to PFRG, timeline considerations, ... not to mention all the advice...) to help me with running ROTR:BO, maybe I should start a campaign log and credit all the really creative people and stuff found here.

It seems like my table may have just grown to 7 people. Has anyone run these changes with 7 people? Or did they have to further "beef up" the encounters?
Since I have eight players, I have had to add some challenges into the game to keep it interesting. I must highly recommed Joey Venture's notes on 6 player parties in RotRL, but I have had to up the ante even more in a few places. When the party fought the goblins in the glassworks, there were 5 goblin commandos and about 8 regular goblins. I also put Tsuto up on a scaffolding 25' up in one of the glass window "towers" in the main room. I gave him a quiver of endless normal arrows upped his dex and wis for an AC of 19, and started peppering the party near the end of the goblin fight, after they had used up most of their spells and specail abilities. I think combat lasted 7-8 rounds for all the goblins, and another 10 rounds or so before they took down Tsuto. Part of this was due to the fact that only the rogue and ranger had missile weapons, but it made the battle long and hard, as well as satisfying. The bard tried to talk to him during the fight, but after he shot her down to zero hps not once but twice, she was quite pissed at him and is working on a derogatory song to defame his character even after his death! :)
Lord_orpheus, I am running 8 + a bear companion thru Burnt Offerings atm, so if you are interested I can give you some feedback on what additional changes I made and how they went if you like. The above quote is from the "Post your RotRL Party" thread, and just one example of changes I made to keep the challenge up for my overly large party. My email is in my profile, I can send you the changes I have done if you email me.

I just started RotR, converted to PFRPG, with a group of 6 and these notes have been very helpful. So far we've done the goblin raid, the glassworks, and now the group has started through the catacombs of wrath. The enhanced combats have been challenging, but not too lethal, which is about right for level 1-2 encounters (although the glassworks fight was a bit tough. 10 goblins, including 2 commandos, is a challenge when the party's main damage dealer (a shoanti barbarian in this case) fails to hit even a single goblin!) I would love to see the updated notes. If they're still available, can copies please be sent to me at mtbedwards (at) rogers.com, thanks.
It'll be interesting to see how challenging the higher level stuff is. Since we're using Pathfinder and nothing else my group doesn't have the crazy combo characters and broken powers found in 3.5 splat books. I may have to keep an eye on how things go. For the record my group consists of: a shoanti barbarian (who will soon be multiclassing into spell-less ranger), an elf rogue, a gnome druid, a chelaxian wizard, a chelaxian fighter (archery focus), and a chelaxian paladin of abadar. Nothing too fancy, just good basic characters.

Our group has done well so far:
Kitt: Riddleport Halfelf Rogue/FighterJakk Windwalker: Riddleport Halfelf Rogue/ Spellblade
Skillum Queeg: Human Riddleport (Ulfen)Paladin
Naslyn: Tiefling Sandpoint Cleric of Shelyn
Verios: Celwynvian Elf Divination Wizard
Estle: Human Hedge Witch (NPC from Into the Haunted Woods)
Using the slow XP progression.
So far, all of them except Naslyn (who missed 3 weeks) have reached second level and are about to go into the Glassworks (Verios, Kytt, and Estle were in ITHW, so they had some XP before starting BO)
They survived the initial assault on Sandpoint by the goblins (which I boosted a bit and added the goblin torturer who was supposed to be killed by the sherrif as a final "end boss" fight to cap off the assault), then got involved with several side plots (meeting Madame Mvashti, getting involved with the Vinder's daughter, gambling-using the gambling rules from Second Darkness, enjoying the festival) before encountering a giant crab on the beach, an attic whisperer, and then they followed a (supposed to be) red herring to Chopper's Isle (itself a major effort to climb to the top) where they fought a carrion swarm before decending into the basement, past the ruins of the old house into older caverns with a temple to Pazuzu (OK, I stole that idea from another thread) which eventually led them to the lair of the Sandpoint Devil (which nearly killed the party despite the fact that I dropped him down to a CR 6 monster). However, with good teamwork and some VERY lucky rolls (and a series of horrible misses and 2 fumbles by the SPD) they survived and then got involved with the goblin in the closet.
We;re taking a three week hiatus from ROTR however so that we can playtest the APG characters. (I'm letting each of them roll up a 6th level character from the APG so that we can run 1 scenario to see how the new classes work).

Joey, this is pretty awesome. I happen to have a group of 6 that will be starting this in a month or two, and this will save me a ton of time! I'f love to get a copy of the Doc as well. My email is blind dot like dot mary at gmail dot com.
Thanks again to both you and all the other great idea contributors in this thread!

There are a number of encounters, like the giant hermit crab in PF #1, where the one big creature could be replaced by two or three weaker versions of the same creature. I think there are also a number of encounters where advanced versions of creatures could be replaced by a larger number of non-advanced versions of the same creature (so instead of adding another advanced mountain roper in PF #6 maybe it should be swapped out for 3 or 4 regular ropers). Is this a good idea when dealing with larger groups of players? Or should the one big/advanced monster be left in and maybe made a bit more powerful?

Hey Joey V, you mentioned gestalt characters in another thread. I like that idea seeing how I'm only gonna have 3 players. I also like these changes you made to this AP. I love challenges so I'm not a fan of toning an adventure down.
This is obviously a tough adventure (I would love to be a PC rather than run it cuz it looks totally fun!). So my question is would it be to much to use Joey V's changes for 3 gestalt characters? Or would it be way to powerful?
Any and all input would be greatly appreciated.

The Last three I just sent you the notes
As for the extra character it all depends on what you are comfortable with at the table do you want to run another character or do you want the PCs to run one what I would suggest is what ever you end up giving them have them run it during combat there are alot of things to keep track of in alot of these combats

Help - it looks like my group of 4 has suddenly spiked to 6 for RotR. Could you send your notes to rinertw at yahoo dot com ?
Thanks - and have you ever thought of posting your docs at d20pfsrd.com
It's a great resource for conversions and it would save you some time emailing to individuals.
Thanks in advance.
