It takes Bogorin a little while but a dull click followed by a grunt of approval from the dwarf as the entire end of this passage slides clear revealing a short platform ending in a simple iron ladder descending into the depths below.

The Secret Entrance

Marching order as only one can go down this ladder at a time?

Male Taldan Aristocrat 4

Bogorin first obviously and then Herve ?
Tenna in the middle with the new one and Willy at the rear ?

Male Human (Taldan) Barbarian (Invulnerable Rager) 5

"Why am I always in da back?"

Female Human (Chelish) Commoner 1/Ranger 2

"Gods..." Tenna was feeling paranoid now. So it can look like people too... She suddenly found herself looking over her shoulder.

"I guess I better stay in the middle since I've got the light. Bogo, you can see fine up front?"

Tenna's bow sheds enough light that when Bogorin reaches for the ladder he notices something carved on the wall.

If anyone wants to look closer at the carving:

Spoiler:
Eight lines carved into the wall so finely that it would have escaped sight had there not been a light source to illuminate it, the lines are from left to right and lie immediately beneath each other

Female Human (Chelish) Commoner 1/Ranger 2

"Hey! Does that mean anythin' to anyone?" Tenna asked, pointing at the lines. It seemed to simple to her to be a symbol of anything.

Seemingly constantly frustrated by the endless delay, Bogorin turns an annoyed face to Tenna as he says over his shoulder "Bah! De ye know nuthin' girl! A Dwarf dinnae need light ta..." the old dwarf's words die off however as he notices for the first time the carvings the light from Tenna's bow reveal. "What by Torag's beard is That?"

Is that correct Hopeless? Darkvision wouldn't have revealed the markings? And as Bogo is definitely taking a closer look now, please roll for him whatever roll would be appropriate.

OOC: Is this game closed to new players or are new players allowed to join the game late? I am asking because I have been looking through the posts and it looks like a lot of fun. Also, I was wondering if this is a Pathfinder only game, or if you use other game books like the Complete Adventurer?

Male Human (Taldan) Barbarian (Invulnerable Rager) 5

"What is it? What ya see?" Will calls ahead

Yes it only showed up because of the light evidently whoever carved this was trying to be subtle and human too

Bogorin scans the markings on the wall as he holds on to the top rungs of the ladder that descends below, Tenna's warning makes him examine the markings with more interest but why it should only show eight lines when looking down you estimate this ladder descends about 30' and should mean there's a good 15 rungs or so to the ladder.

Spoiler:
No roll necessary at this point

Well the characters were designed using Pathfinder but the ranger used a variant system so I'm not adverse to using other books especially if I've got them (Complete Adventurer included) this scenario however is almost over but I do have plans where to take this next if they're interested, but if you want to design a character there is a section where a new character can be introduced if you want to join in

Legends are Made Not Born

Above is a link to the discussion thread, you'll be able to discuss the details there and if you do want to join in welcome to the party!

Screwing up his face in thought for a moment, Bogorin finally snorts "Bah! Sneaky humans!" turning over his shoulder he calls "'Ware yerselves on this 'ere ladder! Seems tae be sumthin here indicatin' only 8 rungs when there's more'n that on de ladder. Mayhap a trap 'o 'nother blasted secret door tae my way o' thinkin'. Girl! Come shine that light o' yers down this hole!"

(assuming Tenna does so) Bogorin begins making his way carefully down the ladder, at the 7th rung he stops and begins looking all around (1d20+5=22) the shaft for any kind of trap of secret door. If he sees none, he will only proceed after very carefully testing the 8th, 9th and every rung after that...

Female Human (Chelish) Commoner 1/Ranger 2

"Gotcha, Bogo!" Tenna held her bow by one end, holding it as close to Bogorin as she could. "Everythin' okay?"

Tenna will follow as soon as the all-clear is given.

Bogorin:

Spoiler:
The eighth rung is fine, the ninth however is loose but you're not sure if it'll come loose but suspect its intended to send anyone unaware falling straight to the bottom

"Ware the 9th rung! Tis loose and seems tae me tae be tae make us fall on'er heeds!"

Still proceeding very carefully, testing every rung, he will continue making his way down...

Female Human (Chelish) Commoner 1/Ranger 2

"Right!" Tenna called back. She turned to the others. "We gotta keep ever'one in the light that can't see, so someone else should go before me an' I'll go right behind. Then everyone else can follow th'light."

A problem with her logic then reared its head. Old Carter wasn't likely to be making it up or down any ladders in his condition. "Damn...Talden, Brallin, can you keep an eye on Carter, t'keep 'im safe?"

Tenna will follow on the ladder as soon as she can.

Tenna will follow on the ladder as soon as she can.

"Talden and Brallin are escorting Old Carter out of the lair and back to the waystation," Angus replies looking confused as he glances behind him for a moment.

Female Human (Chelish) Commoner 1/Ranger 2

"Oh..." Tenna shook her head, trying to clear her thoughts. Her nerves were clearly getting the best of her. She followed Bogorin on the ladder, taking care with the rungs he had pointed out.

Just to clarify:

Bogorin
Herve
Tenna
Angus
Willy
Do you agree?

At the bottom of the ladder it opens up into a corridor that leads into a well lit chamber.

The Corridor

Female Human (Chelish) Commoner 1/Ranger 2

Tenna stepped forward a couple of feet, looking about the corridor. "Awfully bright in here compared to th'rest of the place..." she whispered.

Perception: 11

Impatient for the others to make their way down, Bogorin starts moving slowly down the corridor. Perception1d20+3=13

The Corridor

Okay Bogorin and Tenna are at the bottom (Herve?) since you're looking you can move 1 square per round or risk moving further, Bogorin has noticed there's a number of wires crossing the corridor at certain points but not what they set off as each can be easily stepped over

Bogorin takes a closer look at the wires then says " Ere girl, shine that light o' yorn down this way." As he studies them, Bogorin says "There be some more sort o' traps 'ere but I kin nae tell ye what. Step carefl'y now lass 'n be sure tae tell those as come after ye."

And, again moving slowing and carefully and avoiding the wires, Boggo continues moving forward.

Female Human (Chelish) Commoner 1/Ranger 2

Tenna's eyes widened. She wasn't sure what sort of traps could be set down here, but she imagined the sort that some hunters used back in the woods. She remembered the fall after she had to cut herself out of an overly strong rabbit trap she had accidentally stepped into.

"Hey, Willy, Mr. Esterel, Mr. Angus! Watch out for those wires! We don't know what they do..." she whispered back to the others. She then carefully picked her way through them behind Bogorin.

Male Taldan Aristocrat 4

Herve follows Bogorin calmly

Male Human (Taldan) Barbarian (Invulnerable Rager) 5

And Willy follows Herve.

The First Room

Okay above is the map of the First room located at the end of the corridor where the ladder descended into. You will need to select which square you're standing in to the right of that blue line indicated on the map as you wouldn't have passed it and a Perception check and once you've all responded I'll post the description of the room

Male Taldan Aristocrat 4

Herve stands on K4

Boggo's at J4. Perception (1d20+3=5).

Male Human (Taldan) Barbarian (Invulnerable Rager) 5

I guess Willy is at M3.

Perception: 1d20+7=13

Just waiting on Tenna before posting the updated map

Herve:

Spoiler:
The wires crossing the floor at various points seem very odd specifically since they're a little TOO obvious however you're not sure what they're actually for, the yelling is too faint to tell what is being yelled but it is definitely coming from the southern corridor leading away from the room you're now looking into.

In front of you now that you're closer you can all see is a fully furnished wizard's laboratory and oddly you can hear shouting coming from the southern end of this room.

Female Human (Chelish) Commoner 1/Ranger 2

Perception:21

Male Taldan Aristocrat 4

Take care , there are still some wires ahead ! Let's check the noise quickly . someone could be in need of help

Female Human (Chelish) Commoner 1/Ranger 2

"Gods!" Tenna exclaimed at Herve's warning. "This just keeps gettin' better... Bogo, watch out."

She carefully continued forward towards the noise, an arrow now ready in her bow.

The chamber before you is 35' in diameter and has a clean stone floor. Along the northeast wall is a stocky L-shaped wooden workbench covered with beakers, flasks and assorted glassware. A smaller wooden table rests to the southwest but is not as nearly as cluttered. It holds a few opened books and orderly rows of upturned glassware. Along the northeast wall are several pegs holding cloaks and a broom.

The yelling coming from the south is too faint to identify what is being said but it is clear enough to know in what direction the sound is coming from.

Updated Wizard's Lab Map

I will need to know who will enter the wizard's lab first?

Male Taldan Aristocrat 4

Given the way Boggo and me have been playing up to now , I would say Bogorin since he was ahead :)

Herve Esterel wrote:

Okay marching order:

Bogorin
Herve
Tenna
Angus
Willy

That okay with you?

Male Taldan Aristocrat 4

Yes

Herve Esterel wrote:
Yes

Stepping into the lab Bogorin doesn't pause even as Angus yells a warning behind you sending all of you darting forward even as the wires briefly illuminate the corridor in a web of electricity.

Everyone except Bogorin make a Reflex save

Male Taldan Aristocrat 4

Reflex save 10

About to rush forward at the sound of the screaming, Bogorin growls and checks himself at Herve's warning but nods his thanks at the young noble.

As they move further into the room and then dart ahead at the other Dwarf's warning, no longer able to contain himself Boggo calls out feelingly "Dale! Hold on lass! Boggo's a commin' tae escure ye!' and, holding his shield in front of him, his hammer raised, Boggo charges with all speed towards the noise. Wary now of all the traps though, he does still try and keep and extra eye out for any further dangers Perception (1d20+3=21) (+2 for stone etc...)

Male Human (Taldan) Barbarian (Invulnerable Rager) 5

Reflex: 1d20+1=8

Female Human (Chelish) Commoner 1/Ranger 2

"Bogo, wait!"

Reflex Save: 28 off a natural 20!

Sorry for the delay everyone. :(

Tenna Milcress wrote:

Sorry for the delay everyone. :(

The spell goes off and as the wires jangle an awful jingle it also releases an electrical charge that spread throughout the corridor catching everyone but the one who set it off by virtue of entering the lab.

Herve and Willy failed their saves taking 10 damage, Angus barely made his save (11+2 for 13) so he and Tenna take only 5 damage but all of you barely manage to stumble into the lab as behind you the corridor continues to be bathed in electrical arcs

Bogorin can tell the shouting is coming from the south but thanks to the awful noise behind him can't tell if its Dale who's shouting...

The Workshop

Okay you can now decide where you're standing in the workshop once you do that you can ask questions about the place or just say what direction you're heading

Male Taldan Aristocrat 4

F5 heading toward A6
"I'll watch the west side . Holler if you need help "

Willy , how are you healthwise ? I remember you were not healed after the last fight

Male Human (Taldan) Barbarian (Invulnerable Rager) 5

Hurtin, 10/37 hp

Male Taldan Aristocrat 4

OUCH !!!

Hopeless, what are the squares of the lab and where would we be standing now? Unless I misunderstood something?

Female Human (Chelish) Commoner 1/Ranger 2

Tenna will be standing next to Willy, whereever he is now.

Tenna cursed and yelped as she hopped out of the corridor with the wires. "What was that!?" she managed as she made it out, her hair standing on end where her hood wasn't holding it down. Gods, it was like lightning in there? Is that what it feels like to get hit by it?!

Seeing how badly Willy was hurting, she quickly fished around in her pouch for one of the wallet of healing packets they had been given. "Willy, lemme help ya there."

How much do they heal again?
