Right now, I have the amulet and hand.

I cast Healing Word on Drivish.

Healing Word (1d6+3=5)

So that's five HP in addition to his surge. Also, I take a short rest.

Male Dragonborn Fighter/1

"Thanks Barshevy. It didn't look that unstable, but I should have been more careful."
Unless my ineptitude revealed something, I continue my search outside.

"You should have been! You, sir dragon, are the rock of our group. I wouldn't know what we would do without you."

Can dragonborn blush..Drivish grunts and heads out of the cave.

"He's a rock and I'm the wordy icing." Rin looks around, wondering what the place was like in the heyday of the Parhok empire.

The fact that the inscriptions are inlaid with gold tells Rin something. There is not much more to be seen in this passage though, unless you can get through the rubble.

male Half elf wizard 7

"Expensive tastes they had."

Pat, I'm a little confused about where we are and what we're seeing. Could I beg clarification?

The waterfall is crashing to the canyon floor, some 30' below where you stand. It cuts through what appears to have once been a passage that has been broken apart by the earthquake. You are in one side of the passage, on the east side of the rift, that dead-ends in a heap of rubble. There is another part of the passage across the way, with some 25' of water between you and there.

Movement options from where you are are limited:

- dig through rubble
- climb down to rift base where the river runs
- find a way across to the other passage
- do something PCs think of that GMs never do

Female Human Rogue 2

Does the river fill the gorge, or is there a dry area on the sides of it ?

"Any ideas ? As this place isn't the most safe area, we should try clearing the rubble or get out of here."

Dry area

"I'm not turnin' back now. Hell, I'll let Drivish throw me across, if I knew he could do it! I want to put an end to this threat. What they did to those people back there..." he pauses with a grim look, then his face turns angry, "I must avenge them. Women and children.. slaughtered." Fargrim turns silent as he tries to think of a way across.

I'm at work, so I don't have the rules in front of me. Would I be able to jump the 25' with athletics? If so, what would the DC be?

Female Human Rogue 2

"We could try to walk along the river... maybe there's something interesting along the way there. It'd be quite dangerous though, as we'll be visible to everyone around, so I think that should be our last option." Making up her mind, Lafiel adds : "Lets go check the other side of the tunnel."

The cleric returns the amulet and hand to Lafiel.

"Let's go."

A running long jump would be DC25 Athletics

"I'll follow behind"

Sovereign Court

M Human Expert 7

The other side of the passage is across the waterfall. The three main routes there would be

- jumping
- climbing down, crossing the river, climbing up
- swinging across on a belayed line

Jumping is DC25
The climb we know about (though you won't have a rope on the way up, or at least the lead person won't)
Swinging would be Athletics or Acrobatics DC15, then STR DC12 to grip something well enough to stay stable over there.

Male Dragonborn Fighter/1

Do we have enough rope to cross the gorge? If so I can climb and swim and secure the rope. I left the original rope on the cliff in case we needed to leave, but I can go back for it.

That river says "trap" to me. There's gotta be something nasty in there.

"Ye know, I could try to jump across. Let's tie a rope to me waist first," He says as he approaches Drivish with the opposite end of his rope. "Here, you hold this end, should I fall."

He ties the rope to his waist, steps back to get a good running start, and takes off. At the last moment he loses his footing and falls down to the water below.

Athletics to jump (1d20 8=17)

Uh-oh

Athletics covers swiming too, right? lol

There should be a track and field skill.

Female Human Rogue 2

"That dwarf is suicidal", Lafiel comments to herself as she sees Fargrim plummet down into the river.

"I'll try to swing across using the rope", she tells the rest of the group. She ties her rope to herself, then gives the opposite end to Qadim-sul.
Acrobatics Check (1d20+9=26)
Lafiel takes a breath, then starts running and jumps, trying to catch the rope. She does so elegantly, and swings across the chasm with it.
Can't I swing right into the other tunnel opening, as it's exactly on the same place in the opposite side ? If not :
However, she doesn't calculate her speed well enough, and collides with the other stone wall, trying desperately to keep her hold on the rope.
STR check (1d20+1=5)

Male Genasi Swordmage 2

Qadim-sul hauls on the rope holding Lafiel, pulling her back to safety. "Perhaps I should fly across with a rope," Qadim-sul says. Then you can all tie yourselves to the rope and pull yourselves across."

Qadim-sul calls upon the power of the winds, and rises into the air, flying across the chasm (using Windwalker racial power). Once on the other side, he'll secure the rope with pitons and call the first person across.

male Half elf wizard 7

Rin looks very pale. "If it's all the same to everyone, I'd rather not die again today. Ummmm... any ideas how someone with no athletic ability can cross this? I don't think Father Barshevy and I are cut out for this kind of exercise."

He watches with concern as his companions fling themselves effortlessly across the raging torrent.

Sovereign Court

M Human Expert 7

I'm sorry -- I'm too busy laughing to keep this all straight, so let me check:
Qadim-sul has strung a rope across.
Lafiel is back on the rubble side.
Fargrim has fallen into the lake and is in danger of being swept down the river, but for Drivish holding his rope.
Barshevy and Rin have not tried to cross yet.
Drivish has not spoken up.
That sound right?

Getting across the strung rope is Athletics or Acrobatics DC12 (10 + 2 for slick). No take 10.
Fargrim can get to shore (at the bottom) with a DC15 Athletics, or climb the rope with a DC15 (rope soaked, not just slick). Drivish would need to either anchor the rope or make a DC12 STR check for this to work.
Is that everying?

I had made a query about the rope, but for now I'll hold the dwarf... or not.

Sorry. You have enough rope.

Oh no. Did we lose the dwarf?

He's still in the lake -- hasn't responded yet

Male Genasi Swordmage 2

If people use a short length of rope to (loosely) tie themselves to the main rope strung across, will that give them a bonus on the Athletics check? Or can I help by pulling them across the main rope?

Yes, that will drop the DC by 5

"Bloody hell!" Fargrim yells as he tries to swim back to his companions. "It's nice of you to tell us you can fly!" Saying to Qadim-Sul.

Athletics to swim (1d20 8=22)
I hope that's right.

Female Human Rogue 2

Lafiel moves to the other side, using the rope Qadim-Sul streched across the chasm.
Acrobatics check (1d20+9=13)
Once on the other side, Lafiel moves inside the other tunnel as silent as possible. She looks for anything interesting, and more importantly any possible enemies who could attack the group at its bad position. Staying inside the cave, she watches the rest of the group's back.
Lafiel moves inside only enough to discern the immediate surroundings.
Stealth Check, Perception Check (1d20+9=16, 1d20+5=25)

male Half elf wizard 7

Gingerly wrapping rope round his waist, Rin eases over the water. This time his luck holds.

Rope crossing (1d20=15)

Far below he sees Fargrim bobbing towards the shore and thanks his stars he stopped falling when he did.

Male Dragonborn Fighter/1

"Fargrim, you're swimming the wrong way! We're going over there!" Drivish points to the far side as he readies to go across.
Athletics = 28

The cleric offers his god a short prayer before he shimmies across.

Athletics (1d20+1=20)

Sovereign Court

M Human Expert 7

Everyone is across save Barshevy, who can use his rope sling, and Fargrim, who can be on whichever side of the lake he likes, but is still down below.

A portal is set into the chasm wall, partially obscured by the crashing waterfall. A pair of bronze gates stands partially open. Each of the gates is emblazoned with a stylized 5-headed dragon. Exposed beneath the platform is a mechanism composed of rusted black gears, a massive flywheel, and 8 long, rusted glaives.

Lafiel:

Spoiler:
The obvious defunct trap seems to have included a pit trap in front of the gates which may still function.

Barshevy is now across.

Female Human Rogue 2

"This trap is part of a pit trap which could still be functionable," Lafiel tells her companions. "I'll try to disable it." she adds. Lafiel ties herself with a rope and gives one end to Drivish, then starts working on disabling the trap using her tools.
Thievery check (with thieves' tools) (1d20+11=17)

Pat

Spoiler:
if that one doesn't work : 1d20+11=14, 1d20+11=31, 1d20+11=29

Lafiel is able to safely trigger the trap, revealing pit down to the lake below.

LA:

Spoiler:
You believe it is now safe to traverse the edges, no rolls needed.

Does the five headed dragon symbol on the doors match the amulet Lafiel found?

In theme, not in exact shape

Male Genasi Swordmage 2

Qadim-sul would like to take a short rest after everyone's across the waterfall.

"Everyone, help me pull Fargrim back up."
Strength check (1d20+2=8)

male Half elf wizard 7

Strength assist to get Fargrim back (1d20=12)

Rin seems slightly surprised at his own strength and is happy to help out.

Despite his rotund appearance, the cleric demonstrates a surprising degree of strength.

Strength (1d20+2=19)

Female Human Rogue 2

"Nasty trap", Lafiel comments as the pit in front of the doors opens suddenly. "It should be safe now to keep moving inside."

Afterwards, Lafiel helps the rest of the group pull Fargrim back up.
Strength assist (1d20+1=14)

"Thank you. Seems i misjudged the distance"

male Half elf wizard 7

Rin exchanges a sympathetic glance with the dwarf. "Been there, done that."

The cleric looks at the dripping wet dwarf concernedly.

"I just hope you don't catch a cold. Pelor's given me no cure for that, unfortunately."
