I'm using level bumps already

I agree with the wish lists because in the early stages the AP has a lot of stuff that is basically unusable( as in wouldn't be seen dead using it) by PCs

I dont like the saves stuff..it smacks of 4E and should remain there

I'll try and keep your cash up to a level suitable for your advancement.Probably through bounties and other rewards rather than treasure boosting

pretty much how i felt. And 4E still just doesn't feel right to me, IMO. what do you think about the giving us the monster stats part?

Liberty's Edge

You mention wish list, does this mean you would like us to comprise a wishlist for our character?

Sovereign Court

Male variable 12th lvl Dm/5th level fanboy/3rd Lvl Pedant

yes please..a wish list comprising what you would like to have by the end of this part of the AP..at which point you are going to be 4th level..Maximum 3 items and at a lofical power level. I reserve the right to substitute items I feel would unbalance the game

and Khal...letting players see the monster stats is just so WROOOOOOOOONG!!!!

M Brownin (Half Pale Skin/Half Dark Skin) Healer 8/Merchant 3

Oh and sorry Azoun, meant to say this before, all is fine with the treasure divvy and i'm sure inikai feels the same. thanks

lol really? even just ac and hp? but ok, it's your call so no problemo ;P

Edit after last post in IC: Hmmm, well, you know, after a couple rounds we usually have a pretty good idea of the things AC anyway, right? And if we keep track of how many hp a creature took before it dies then we have a pretty good idea of how many hp any others should have, right? Soooooo.... just sayin'. =)

Liberty's Edge

Well a wishlist for Muchorak is easy! Well at least two items are, a magical weapon, prefered to be a longsword and a handy haversack!

Also since he is a ranger and we switched over to Beta, what rules are we using for Animal Companions? They came out with a diff one from the book, if you can provide email I can send it to you.

Marak's 'wish-list' would include a Mithril Chain Shirt (+1 would be even cooler), a Handy Haversack (no adventurer can be complete without one!) and some sort of Thassilonian relic that does something to do with enhancing Conjuration magic (perhaps even just something like a Bag of Tricks or Figurine of Wondrous Power) to go along with his backstory. A magical amulet that gives a +1 caster level to Conjuration spells, or allows the user to communicate with creatures that he has Summoned even if he doesn't speak Celestial, Infernal, Ignan, etc. could be neat.

Liberty's Edge

Wellard,

Email is on it's way to you, titled Revised Animal Companion.

Fie on excessive player knowledge! I like not knowing it makes the game better. In fact, I have avoided other Runelords threads and other things that would give me information on the game. Also, I try to think about what Inikai would do as if he were a real person. However, I did make some decisions based on game-mechanics.

Yes, I do understand that. And like the DM said in his post, although he would hope people wouldn't meta-game, he realizes that it might still happen. But I guess he was willing to sacrifice some of that in the name of game speed?

Did you read my edited post though Bill? We can figure out AC & HP pretty easily. Anyway, this is all academic as Wellard's already made his decision as is his prerogative of course. I'm just now debating it in theory :)

As for a wish list...Hmmm, I'll have to think on that. Ali will never have a back pack, but I'm sure she'd think a bag of holding would be Neat-O! Not sure what else (any suggestions?) I'll get back to you on that. Would you like us to maybe put our wish lists in your character profiles Wellard?

Yes, I did read the whole thing and I hope I did not come across like a jerk because that was not my intention. However, you can't always tell the spirit that words were written in.

Players can figure out what AC the bogies are and other things about them generally. But if the creature uses an ability that grants deflection for 5 rounds we would not know of it. For that matter, an ally of the bad guys could affect the party with a spell like Doom that decreases our attacks or something like that. I just prefer not to know the statistics of a foe because it reduces the mystery for me. I even forgot that Muchorak was a ranger, I thought he was a fighter. And have avoided reading the wild druid class features for Ali.

"The unexamined life is not worth living" does not apply to D&D.

No no Bill, not at all. Nothing like you "being a Jerk" ever crossed my mind (even though you may be a young punk =D)

You do bring up some interesting points though that I hadn't thought of. Maybe that DM's idea won't pan out in playtesting? Oh well, I'm considering the case closed unless anyone wants to add anything else.

On to Monster Bashing!

Was just going over the OOC to look for something and caught two things I missed before...

There's Four of us born in Jan! (Sorry Therealthom, didn't mean to leave you out 1st time around)

And Wellard, you realize we share the same first name and were born exactly 10 years and 3 days apart? OOOOoooooooo haha

Your middle name wouldn't start with a G by any chance would it? ;-)

Cookie Jar Pilferer 9 ; Dimensional Explorer 4

Having all the monster stats would be just too much like some of the games from my original group. All camped out with monster manuals around the table. Those characters knew a lot about monsters. I prefer a little mystery myself.

As for wish list. Wow, I'll have to think about that, it's too much like shopping. One thing -- if you're agreeable Wellard, Mantis leathers are listed as +1 in the first encounter with them in Crimson Throne. I "bought" them for Romon as masterwork, a totally useless action, but they were supposed to be really nice and about his size, and he needed a change from his previously usual shadow-lurker black ... Anyway, instead of dropping an item into the game if you could just say OK to +1 on them, when you're ready of course, that would work for me. We could chalk it up to Romon learning how to move properly with them on.

Or, given the nature of that group, perhaps the leather's properties will only activate when struck with the life's-blood of someone whom the Mantis God regards as an 'enemy of the gods.' Who that would be would remain up to the DM, obviously, and the armor might seem to absorb the blood as it falls upon the armor, and hum with power, or is it, satisfaction?

That's brilliant. Creepy, but brilliant.

And the alchemical notes are incredible.

I really need to look up all the items in Beta to have an idea of what to wish for. Something more about image than practicality, I think. Kallie is still pretty frivolous.

any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks

Go to the front page for the board in question, say, here, for the Play-by-Post Discussion board;

Play-by-Post Discussion board

And then to the top right next to the black boldfaced Play-by-Post Discussion you'll see a blue text 'Add New Thread.'

Once you've cut-and-pasted in whatever you want to post (or typed it in, if you're a brave man who embraces risk), you have to look up top for the Submit button at the top right (not the *bottom* right, where it would be for a Submit Post confirmation).

Khaladon wrote:

That happens at our age.

From the game thread:

Marak Quan wrote:

In a hollow voice that doesn't sound quite like his own, Marak suddenly begins speaking, "This creature is spawned of sin, specifically the sin of wrath, and was created by Thassilonian magic, harvesting the wrath of slain mortals and creating these monsters from them. It's bite can transmit it's wrath into another, and it's goal is to capture living beings and take them to the place where it was created, a 'runewell,' where it sacrifices them to empower the creation of more of it's own kind. This place can often be found within a mile of these creatures."

The darkness fades from his eyes and he rocks slightly, before jerking his hand away quickly and saying to Inikai, "Yes, burn it with fire."

Noticing that Muchorak has taken damage, Marak stands suddenly, swaying as if unsteady, To Muchorak, he says, "Your will is a powerful thing, to have resisted this creatures taint."

That was nicely evocative. It's fun to read another player's interpretation of game events because it adds to the atmosphere.

But do warn me if I go over the top into 'drama queen' territory. I don't want Marak to turn into an attention hog who ends up monopolizing the conversations!

(It already seems like another PbP character of mine, Mordecai, is turning into such a critter. I'd hate to be drowning out other peoples creativity!)

Heh, I'm fond of him as well, but when I do up one of my two paragraph responses, and am ready for another one before anyone else has gotten a word in edgewise, I feel like I'm crowding them out with my enormous self-involvement.

It's just not enough that *I'm* having a blast, I want everyone to be having a blast! :)

Marak hasn't quite 'clicked' with me yet (I spat him out pretty fast, and hit the ground running), but I think I'm figuring him out.

I think Socrates counseled his followers to "wander around and kill whomever you meet".

Maybe I am thinking of Voltaire.

Dark Archive

Note: Marak, being nothing if not self-assured in his ability to quickly pigeon-hole people (and quietly confident in his utter wrongitude), is still working under the assumption that Inikai is a Cleric of some sort and Muchorak is a Barbarian. So, hearing Inikai talking about having to be heard by the targets of his powers, he's just assuming that Inikai has a Command spell prepared or something. Were he a little quicker on the uptake, he'd have learned his lesson from jumping to conclusions about Alisebette...

"I don't jump to conclusions! There was no jumping. I took a tiny step, and there conclusions were."

Romon's not a cynic, but he's been taught to case the joint before breaking in. This seat of the pants approach is a change. One he's sceptical of. Besides, the big city boy is still looking down on the yokels.

Wellard, would you post the names of some of the better-known buildings that are numbered in the Guide to Sandpoint/Runelords? This would help to get into the mindset of a city Inikai has lived in for over five years and makes it easier to know where the action is at any given time.

Hehe, Kallie really is a bit of a coward at heart, or at least more fearful than most adventurer types. That's one thing that's going to lead to her pulling the old "Black Witch" persona out of her closet. ;) It's something to hide behind just like she did as a child during the Chopper murders.
