I'm thinking about converting Curse of the Crimson Throne to d20 modern. Changing encounters isn't going to be a problem. Rewriting the story is. I want this adventurepath to be plausible, and that requires some change at least. I'm hoping some of my fellow gamers out here are willing to give me a helping hand.

I know nothing about d20 Modern, so maybe this is way off base - but Curse of the Crimson Throne seems like something that might work really well in an American Western setting. Assuming the d20 Modern rules adapt well to the Wild West, it could be really cool.
The main reason this comes to mind is of course the Shoanti and how they figure into the story - they would be mystical native American tribes dwelling out in the unsettled lands, of course. Korvosa could be some sort of bustling mid-western city, sprung up on the ruins of Indian settlements. It would probably work either as a landlocked railroad metropolis, or possibly a coastal city in California - I personally like the mid-western rail town idea better myself.
The railroads would be cool, I think, because it would put Queen Ileosa into the role of the young coquettish wife of a railroad baron (King Eodred) who ends up taking over the reigns and ruling the city with an iron fist. The hippogriff-riding marines become rough-riders led by a U.S. Marshal, etc.
Man, I kind of really like that idea now =P. The city stuff would be heavy on steampunk influences, with all the railroad robber baron Victorian stuff, and then the wilderness adventures would be great fun - you could even take things south of the border to get Mayan and Aztec influenced temples and whatnot. Thoughts?

Queen Illeosa is hard to convert. I guess she can be some kind of a political leader. Trinia is gonna be hard too. But she can be blamed for some kind of political assassination. I guess the start would make some more sense that way.
All this makes me think about the death of Pim Fortuyn. He was a Dutch politician who was killed by a guy with Asperger syndrome. The timing was terrible, some 2 weeks before elections. Fortuyn received a lot of votes, for a dead guy.

You don't need to keep the marriage in a modern setting. You don't even have to keep the characters the same gender. Maybe Eodred II becomes the prime minister, and Ileosa becomes the deputy prime minister (or whoever takes over if the prime minister dies while in office).
Trinia doesn't even need to be changed much. She could have been painting the prime minister's portrait while he was in the hospital, and gets accused of poisoning him.
